Could never seem to get a straight answer prior to the general release, so here it goes:1. Yes or No. Does the 737 require excessive breakaway and taxi thrust to taxi (greather than 40 percent N1)? Did MS fix the coefficient of friction for concrete that rumour had it was causing this well known problem? If not, perhaps a beta tester would care to comment on why MS didn't fix this isssue? I'd be interested to know.2. MS2002 missed a lot of NDBs located on approach courses, especially in Canada. Did MS get them in this time?3. Does MS2004 allow addon developers to significantly raise the bar in terms of systems modeling and flight dynamics; in other words, does FS2004 g…

I've only begun to experiment with the wx settings in FS9. I thought I could create a wx system and have it move dynamically (such as a cold front), but have yet to find this. I see where I can program wx into various "weather reporting stations", and thereby move through what I assume is static wx. Can anyone advise if dynamic wx is possible? I've alaso checked the learning center, but may have missed it. :)On this note, I recall the somewhat simplified by very dynamic wx in FS5.Thanks, still lots to learn.Bruce.

We're boiling over with excitement about FS2004. I found some perspective on all of this in an interview with Tom Allensworth (AVSIM)in the current FSInflight magazine -- http://www.fsinflight.com In the second half of this long interview, Tom considers how secure the future of FS may or may not be, and what we can do about it. Worth reading. He points out the importance of bringing new people into the community, because otherwise FS could be driven out of the market by shoot-em-up games. Gresham's Law. He says we should all make an effort to encourage and support new users. Between now and the holiday gift-giving season, tens of thousands of people all over the world wil…

At the suggestion of a reader, we are posting this pinned topic. If you have found FS2004 at a local retailer, post the details here.. What to post? Location (city, country/state), store name, price. But remember, you can also order it from AVSIM and help to support your community here! :)

Hi,I just looked on my FS hard drive and notice that I only had 4GB left on a 60GB hard drive.I thought that I could not have used that much space, so I did a little search around, and found 18GB's of ,what look like, useless files. These files are in the main FS2002 folder have names like, 75,86,3A,4C, they are all a little over 1GB in size and have no file extenstion. Are they safe to delete?, if so what on earth are they, and where did they come from?.ThanksDan.

I'm at work now and can't verify till this evening... but have an observation and a question. When using native FS2k4 real weather I see all the various weather activities within the range I have set up in Display Properties. For example, a thunderstorm to the south, clear skies to the east and north and partly cloudy to the west. This is excellent and a huge improvement over earlier FS versions although it is disappointing the weather information from Jeppeson appears to be outdated and only refreshed at the server side once per hour.I tried FSMeteo v5.1 this weekend with FSUIPC v3.01 and noticed that whatever the current reporting station had for weather was populated th…

I have recently downloaded this (from Avsim), and it keeps causing FS2k2 to crash. I have looked at all the msgs both here and at their website forum, and the concensus seems to be a gauge issue. Has anyone identified the problem gauge, or got around this problem without using a different panel? It seems such a great plane, that I would really like to get this working. (for info, I never use the VC).Help!DavidWin98SE/AMD 1.4/256Mb

Carenado has offered the FS2002 airplane as freeware, but the link to SimFlight is broken. FSPlanet had a partialdownload (3.4M), containing 2D panel and spot view, and stating that an additional 2.3M file containinginternal and wing views should be downloaded from "another source". Well, I can't find the "other source"and the SimFlight web site is all but useless. The plane is lovely, but not much fun flying a panel with no outside views and blank windows, no wings, etc. Can anyone help find the rest of the file? Thanks,mistral2

Greetings to all,I see many posts about display problems with the new version of FS.I received my copy this weekend and faced the same problems but I managed to solve them.I have a PIV 2.4Ghz, Creative GF4 Ti4200 64Mb, SB Audigy, 512PC333 RAM.On first run and in windowed mode everything looked ok. But when I switched to full screen I could only see some elements of the menus when the mouse moved over them or simply black screens. Here's what I did and finally solved the problem.1. I checked DirectX and confirmed correct installation. Also, I performed each and every test where available (3D, Sound, Music, everything).2. I reinstalled the 44.03 Detonator drivers OVER the …

Does anyone here know what the status of the CSI Airbus family is. About a month ago I thought it was going to be any day. Then I went out of town and when I came back 10 days later it was not out and their fourm was down. Are they still going to release it?~Eddie

I don't know about you, but I'm havin' a little difficulty with the new FS2004 GPS. The learning curve is significant (at least I think so), and the multi-layers of pages is somewhat confusing. I'm sure all you real pilots out there are somewhat comfortable with it. I printed out the GPS lesson (41 pages), and every time I get to sit down and read, I try to absorb a few more pages. Unfortunately, its seems it's more understandable with the Sim active while experimenting.Perhaps the easiest thing to do would be to create a flight plan as opposed to a "direct to" flight. I don't know....I'm just a little "green" at this point, and I'm searching for a "fast-lane" approach. …

After reading the forum posts for the last week about fs2004 I think I picked up on a few high points to utilize during fs2004 install and operation:#1 Do not upgrade any computer componets till observing how FS2004 preforms ( current using 1.8 gig 512 megs SDRAM with Radeon 7200 series 64 meg card)#2 shut down antivirus program and defrag hard drive before install#3 Cross fingers#4 If FS2004 installs ok, read the readme file and adjust and tweak sim settings as necessary to compromise, compromise, compromise.#5 If Sim does not run properly, Check on Video Card Drivers/ Cat updates and give ATI and other internet sites time to post info particular to FS2004 after the offi…

First, you can have 100 pct. 3-d clouds without seeing your fps fall into the single digits.... Here's some tips:-Do not use Real Weather or "dynamic" weather. IOTW--control your cloud settings manually.Real weather and dynamic weather can start "stressing" systems pretty fast when multiple layers, and/or thick cloud layers, are thrown at the system. I try to limit my cloud settings to two layers, and I try to keep coverage at 3/8ths or less (cirrus excluded, as it doesn't hit fps all that much).-If you fly in the Flight Levels, turn off Autogen or at least limit the slider. More cpu HP can go into rendering clouds.-Avoid setting the base of the lowest layer below mou…

I do love flightsims. The trouble with most of them out there is that they provide no PURPOSE to doing anything... just giving you the ability to move the aircraft around.Has 2k4 finnaly fixed this for those of out there that look for something more in our games/sims?For example, if I am flying a passanger aircraft, and I land at an airport... and I taxi to the gate area, I would really prefer gate control to take over, moving my jet to the ramp... opening my door, and giving me the feel that I am actually flying for that airline. Then I can move those persons, or cargo if you are doing that instead to other airports.Just one example. Another one is making one closer to a…

Hi,Been tweaking the sw+hw settings, FS2004 runs quite well on my older setup. Able to run nice clouds w/ details where FR is about the same as FS2002 (target=19). Sliders not too aggresive but able to see r/w signs and other new stuff. TrackIR works well (new beta version), SF260 is flying well. Only issue is 3D stereo goggles, need more horse power than before to get decent FR. Waiting on other payware a/c to get patched (hope we can get 767PIC updated, too).Flying thru Tstorm is really cool. Better visuals in VC mode and turbulence is modeled better. So far, so good. Pat

Hello all, I am currently flying the FFX DC-10 in FS2004 but some the night lights don't seem to function. The lights that aren't working are the tail logo light, and the flashing strobes.I tried it with the Effects files installed and the Effects files not installed and both yield the same result.Any way around this or is there going to be an update later??Thanks!:)

On behalf of the members of FFX/SGA, I just wanted to say thank you to all for the astonishing success of our recent DC10 series releases. To date, this has been our most successful release. In the first week since release, we have 87,000 downloads. This figure is based on information attained from 5 sites including our own. Some percentage of the total is based on conservative estimates because the lack of an exact counter, the rest is actual confirmed numbers. The total includes also all files that have been released by freelance painters for add-on liveries. And we still have yet lots more to came from our own painters!:D I can only hope that when we create and release …

Looking down the list of other flight sim groups at Avsim its sad to see that they all have their die hard enthusiasts but alas they are no more.Thinking of the heady days of Pro Pilot, Flight unlimited, fly! and all the promise of future versions and ideas that came to nothing we are now as a community dependant on our friends at Microsoft to churn out new versions every couple of years.Microsoft Flight simulator has been the foundation for a whole industry of addons yet in many ways I miss the competition, the intersim forum banter, the competition of ideas that the smaller competing sims brought.Being realistic flight simming is Microsoft. We are dependant on Microsoft…

Hi Folks,In preparation for installing FS2004 I installed DirectX 9.0b which I had downloaded from Microsoft's site.It installed without any problem. I then started FS2002 (yes 2) and on the Create A Flight screen I selected the Valmet L-70 Vinka aircraft which I've used many times (50 or more with no problems) and my computer locked up. I had to reboot and try again selecting the Vinka - same thing happened. After rebooting another time I was able to select a default aircraft without any problem. Then I chose to start the flight (with a default aircraft) and FS2002 worked well. Then while flying, I selected the Valmet L-70 Vinka again and this time it worked with…

I was just wondering if anyone is an expert or at least familiar with the little screen that can pop up in FS2002 that reads "FS has encountered a problem and needs to close. Sorry for the inconvenience. Please tell MS about this problem." I don't think in the two years since I got FS02 that I had this screen pop up more than a few times. Lately I have been seeing it quite often. I'm wondering if it is related to addons. I have been flying usually one of the FSD or Dreamfleet planes with both FSmeteo and Radar Contact 3.0 active. I know memory could be an issue at times, that's why I got 1 gig ram in this rig (P4-2.8). Is there anything that can be tweaked to prevent thi…

Getting ready to go from 1.6ghz to 2.6/800. I will need a new Video card also, the old GF3 ti200 has seen it's day. What's the best going for less than $200? I've debated on the Radeon 9600 Pro v.s. one of the newer Nvidia's. I can find arguments for either, but it seems that the Radeons are having some real issues with FS 2004.CH

I have build 30612 02 and apparently it might be bugy as MS is sending me all new software for other reasons related to install issues only...But I have to ask, do the rest of you have access to the scenery library from with-in FS at all or like me only thru the main startup page/settings/scenery library? If the scenery library can only be accessed thru the main startup page the that really suxors! As that means you haave to completely shut the sim down and restart it just to see the changes you have made.I Take it that there where no scenery designers on the beta team? LOL

Just wondering how you guys missed the overcast problem in FS2k4??? There were so many key developers in the FS community that were on the beta test team. I can't understand how something like this was missed. Below 12,000ft the sim is just awesome maybe that took up most of your time...
