Folks,As more people purchase, install, and learn of the good (and a very few bad/ugly areas) about FS2004, there will some that will stay with FS2002 and others who will jump to FS2004.I've been playing with FS2004 for only about 4 hours or so. In that short time and while reading several posts about issues with FS2004, I've come to realize that overall, FS2004 will be the sim to switch to (for me). I have not, and WILL NOT replace FS2002 just yet. There are a few utilities (especially Active Camera) that I've come to use so often during flying, that I "need" them. Eventually, I'll remove FS2002.My point - despite the fact that some minor problems have been uncovered (an…

I have read recently that FS2004 no longer fully supports the GForce 2 MX graphics cards as these cards were only DirectX 7.0 compatible, and FS2004 now requires cards compatible with DirectX 8.0 and above. The result apparantly is that certain functions of the new graphics engine, which we have all got excited about through press releases and numerous screenshots, will not display correctly e.g. water reflections, sun glare spots etc. etc. - possibly even the new cloud engine? Is the above true and what other features are rendered useless? Has anyone with a GForce 2 MX card tried with FS2004 and can they comment on the above? If the above is the case then what graphics c…

I have the chance to get a Geforce4 TI4200. I now have a Quadro2 Pro with 32megs or ram. Is this a good upgrade? Will I see a performance increase with this? I have a Dell XPS500 upgrades to a Tualatin 1.4 with 384megs of ram. I also was thinking of buying a 512meg chip & replacing one of my 128megs. What do you guys think? Flight Sim is all I play & my son uses the computer for Star Wars Galaxies. Thanks for any input.Pat Callaghan

I picked up FS2004 today and have been really happy with it.However, as some people have commented, the 3d clouds can be an incredible drain on fps. I get consistently smooth frame rates except when there is heavy layers of scattered clouds. Real weather, which can add several layers, seems to add to the problem. As we all know, FS2002 is mostly CPU intensive. This is why--if you've got a decent video card--you can run it a high resolutions without a big loss in frame rate. The CPU is usually the bottleneck. However, it seems that the 3d clouds in FS2004 might be limited primarily by the graphic card, more so than any other specific setting. I was running at 1280x960 with 2…

I have many of the Freeware Flight group (FFG) DC-10s from quite some time ago, and think they did a stunning job with the visual models and also with the FDE. They fly pretty much by the numbers. I use them with Staffan's DC-10 panel. I see that FFX/SGA has now released the DC-10 series and am wondering, do I need to download them too? Are they must-haves? How are the FFX visual models compared with the FFG models?JS

Hi all,Just ordered my first two Goflight modules (!) and await FS2004. Is anyone using the two together yet? Any problems? And did anyone ever work out a method to drive the PSS Airbus autopilot with the GF-45 and mouse2key (saw some discussion of it here)Many thanks,Gareth Evans

I was executing a flight from Adelaide (YPAD) to Melbourne (YMML). When approaching YMML, I wanted to select ATIS. According all official documents (ILS charts, ...) the ATIS frequency at YMML is 132.700. But when I open my ATC window, I see '2. Select ATIS at 132.699'When I press 2 (to activate ATIS), nothing happens. The is no ATIS message displayed, even the radio doens't tune to any other frequency (nor 132.700, nor 132.699).Is there a solution for that ???Thanks,Rudi

Surely one is able to ask or point out a differing point of view on this site, how ever will any improvements ever be made! A simple request of an answer by Avism in a previous post has bought the house down, and a locked thread, are you so threatened by my asking of a question? I have read many questions and answers on this site and some i didn't care much for, however i, like any one in any valid and decent democracy should undersatand the importance of the the right to question and receive an answer without the locking of a thread or a request to play somewhere else. If you only hear what you want then it will never be as real as it gets.

Hi folks! I received my copy of FS2004 today (UPS are really fast) and have experienced several "issues" so far, most of which I hope are solvable.First, when I'm somewhere above the ground, around 2000 feet and above, all the textures and objects have super sharp edges. FS2002 was fine without me having to adjust anything. How do I smoothen this? I really want to avoid switching on AA due to the FPS drop.Second, no matter what I do, I absolutely cannot set "water effects" to high. The sim just forces it into the "low" setting. I have not been able to get reflections on the water, or any animated water yet.My system is a...Pentium 4 2.0 Ghz1024 MB RAMnVidia GeForce 4 GO 4…

Just looking for opinions from those that have the new game. I have a lot of addon in FS2k2 and it just appears that there is not alot new with this current release. I have read the list of additions, but also want opinions from others who now have FS2k4 if the new stuff justifies the cost of a whole new game. Screen shots are nice, but with exception of clouds don't see alot of difference there. ALso heard clouds are still 2D up close. IFR has expanded , but only so much. Icing is included but not visually. What do you who have the game think - overhyped upgrade/patch or well worth it and justified as a separate release?

Is there another flight simulator on the market like fs2004?After 1 day with this new sim, I've my answer.I don't think so. Tks Microsoft for this amazing sim

Well, I've been flying in MSFS COF for the better part of a day now. I feel like I can share some of my first impressions. The good:- Visually the sim is excellent - a clear improvement over FS2002. The ground textures have more depth and colour, the sky is finally not that washed out blue but graduated as you look up, the clouds are great (if they are 2D, they sure don't look it) and the new taxiway and runway textures are really nice, you really get a much better sense of speed as you accelerate on your take-off run. - The new weather system is also terrific - also a clear improvement. I didn't have the patience to watch a front build up, but I put a thunderstorm over m…

Hi all. This post will probably get buried in all the 2004 posts, but I just had a neat experience I'd like to share. Thanks to Melvin of MelJet, and the 777 virtual cabin, I did something a little different today. Since the object of Flight Sims are to ...well, fly the planes, I wanted to see what a passenger in MS's virtual world might see, and compare it to the passenger experience in the real world. I was quite impressed! With my Februrary trip from KATL to KSEA still fresh on my mind as the last commercial flight I took, I set up Active Camera in the 777 to be the same view out the window as I had in the Delta 757-200 on the way home. Sort of at a low 9:30 position, wh…

Whenever I use the autopilot for the FFX DC10 it will ignore my throttle setting and when I pull back on the throttle the power doesn't change. Then I disengage the auto pilot and it takes like 10 seconds for the power to respond to the throttle change. I'm using a DC10 panel by Helio that I downloaded.

Well, after reading of all the "issues" with FS2004, it is beginning to sound like MS positioned the product to be functional with most eye candy with TODAY's top end machines. With a two year cycle, it looks like we are fully back on the upgrade bandwagon. I for one am keeping my flawless copy of FS2002 intact, where I can fly any aircraft (man the Piper Meridian is saweet! and my other fav Ratheon Beechjet) and enjoy them with full smoothness. I may end up doing a video card upgrade when the next gen part comes along, but incremental upgrades will probably not cut it with this new version. As someone earlier said, a 4-5GHz machine is apparently in order to obtain th…

I was using one of Steffan's old DC10 panels in FS2002, but chose to attach the FFX DC10 to FS2004's native 747 panel. Three engines work, the fourth does not, but so far everything works great!!Finally, United represented in FS2004!!Randy Jura, KPDX

I have called all around my area in So. Calif. And guess what! They all have it in stock! But guess what again! Nobody and i mean nobody will sell it till tuesday, The "Release Date" I had a guy at EB tell me that there store would get a fine of $5,000 if they sold it before the "Official" Release date. So i guess the release date for So. Calif. is different than the rest of california??Hmmmm?Very interesting?????Must be some covert Calif. deal that has to do with Gov. Gray Davis?:-beerchug

Im thinking of getting it for FS 2004. Is this program as good as some of the other traffic enhancements? Has anyone tried it with 2004 yet. I would like to hear some comments before a buy it. Also, Will it bog down my system more or less than the default traffic? Thanks for any advice.Robert

Hi all,I ran across a situation that effected my video card and wanted to pass it along. I don't have the sim yet but did have a video problem with a mech warrior program until I unistalled my turbo tax program. It then worked great. Again, I don't know much about computers and don't have the new flightsim yet but is it possible that a virus detector or tax program etc could have an effect on FS2004?Just wanted to pass it along.Dave
