Some time ago, someone asked about running FS2004 on a projector. I finally got around trying it. Here's my opinion on it:I used a quality DLP projector for $3000 and projected it onto the wall and moved close to the picture, so it would fill out my field of view. Resolution was 1024x798px.First, I tried this with the virtual panel on. The result of that setup can just be described as WOW. This was really one immersive experience, I nearly felt as if I was indeed sitting in an airplane. I could barely resist stretching out my hands and tuning the radios manually. On the negative side though, the picture was a bit blurry due to the low resolution (and me sitting very close…

Three times now I have tried to put sound files from one helo into another helo file and I never have any sound in that helo after I do it so I have to revert to default. Is it possible to do this or am I attempting something that is not doable? I take out the original sound file and put it away and substitute the whole sound file from the r22. What do I need to do to have the helo access it? Don

  3. I love the default Caravan's exterior looks, and the dynamics aren't too bad, but I really don't like the default panel (2D and VC).The VC is just too d_ _ _ BIG, and ugly. The 2D isn't so pretty, either. Is there some talented and kind panel designer out there who might want to design a well-proportioned, photoreal panel for the Caravan in FS2004?I'd appreciate one....and I'll bet others would too. Hi guys!I didn't know where to put this so I thought I'd just put it in the general forum.I feel FS9 is a little tougher on my PC (or Centrino Notebook, that is ;) ) than 2002 was, including the loading times, overall harddrive access, and frame rate. So I was about to install some reduced-size textures from avsim.Just then I noticed that (just like in FS2002), most scenery textures (and cloud textures) seem to be uncompressed. So, wouldn't it help to compress all textures to dxt format? Using DXTbmp to compress, there is hardly a difference to 32bit (I found imagetool is not as good). On aircraft, there already is a huge performance increase when switching from 32bit to …

  5. Any compatible's out there? I've been doing pretty good compiling a group of WWII vintage acft for AI & player use, but these are large omissions. I have a B-17 (Nancy's Passion) that works well as a player acft, but reboots FS when set as AI. I have been unable to find a Bf110 or Ju 87 that will work at all with "livable" problems (ie. no prop or spinner is un-livable to me *grin*).Also has anyone worked out config file lighting coordinates for the default CFS2 acft already? (my FS suddenly won't actually reload an acft unless I exit FS completely... so tweaking lights into place, could be a horribly long process for all the CFS2 acft *sigh*)

For those with the stutters. Load a quick flight and just do banked turns. Turn for awhile and see if it smooth. Then turn on the GPS and then turn it back off! When I do this it introduces stutters everytime even after the GPS window has been closed! They don't go away either. Can't figure this out. I guess once the window is opened it takes processing cycles even after it is closed.Todd

For those of you frustrated that COF's mesh interpretation (particularly 38m) isn't as detailed as FS2002, I have finally found that the setting of TERRAIN_MAX_DEM_AREA=200.000000 (bumped up from 100.000000) actually brings back some (but unfortunately not all) of the detail that was seen in FS2002.After playing with every other number in the TERRAIN section of fs9.cfg, I finally tried this value as a last resort. This appears to be the only value in this section that can be set above 100 and still make a difference. Also, any value between 100 and 199 doesn't seem to make any difference, and any value over 200 doesn't improve the detail any further. So 200 seems to be…

Fs9 has many new features. One is how they handle the mini panel. That's the view you get when you press "W". This view is now in the Panel.cfg file for every aircraft instead of the Default folder. You can customize the mini panel for each aircraft. This is a shot of my 172 mini panel. I added a bitmap and resized the gauges and now when I press "w" I get another view of the panel not just a bunch of gauges hanging out in the air.Richardhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/31146.jpg

First I brought in the C183RG & the Camel. The Camel was the first FS plane going back to FS1... it has to be included... and the RG goes back to FS2... you don't just cast off that kind of history. :-eekThe RG works great... better than it ever has before. I suspect the reason it is better is that FS04 seems to load bitmaps and other images much faster than FS02 did. But it be very nice... no 3D cockpit but great anyway. The Camel gives me a compatibility error upon loading. It seems to work fine but will not display the top image... which is strange since that works on the RG. I want to be able to look up through that hole in the top wing. ;-) OK... I know the Jenny …

  13. How can I easily get Southwest, and possibly other airlines, into the ATC for FS2002?Is there a way to move certain file(s) from 2004 into 2002 to replace the older ones since 2004 apparently has Southwest in it's ATC sounds? If not, what options might I have? I still plan on using 2002 for add-ons and such, but the lack of these callsigns is annoying.

Joystick, Yoke, Pedals, Throttles, etc) or just want to get the best out of them, then the following info may be usefull for you.I described a.o. the importance of proper calibration, and how to deal with things like the Sensitivity/Nullzone sliders and multi-controller configurations.http://home.planet.nl/~rcbarend/extern/controllers.htmCheers, Rob

Who has seen any significant changes in fs9 performance after using most of the tweaks dnld to Avsim? i.e. Rwy txtures , building texture, fixs etc.The frame rate drop is "extreme" when decending into some airports..all seems well until then and I am really enjoying the sim up to this point..but with the intro of the land getting closer and the scenerey, buildings etc...additional cloud formation..the sim takes on extreme hits. Obviously some users with high end machines have 'most' bugs worked out, but some of us with smaller systems, we have along way to go to enjoy smooth approaches. But personally, I do not think it will take up to date hardware to have a fluid ride…

Hi all, I may have found something about the drop of frame rates during approach to any airport. I can't be certain so I would like to see how it works on other systems. During approach at a medium sized airport (KDET - Detroit Muni), I noticed an extreme loss of fps (22fps locked to 14-15fps). I decided to start some tweaking and anything I did had no impact except for one thing, autogen. I moved the slider to none and of course frame rates jumped to my locked of 22. The interesting thing is I then moved the slider back to very dense and the frame rate stayed at 22. I have tried this at 3 different airports and everytime I get a slow down this appeared to help.Once aga…

I don't know if this is a topic which has been aired at length already. I've not been able to get on the forum for some time so I apologise if this is old ground. I should say that I like what I've seen of FS9. There seem to be quite a number of improvements, some apparent and many which are more subtle. Unfortunately, my experience has been limited by a number of problems one of which is persistent and is really spoiling my enjoyment. My set up is a P4 2.8 gig. A Gainward Ti4600 runs 2 monitors and a matched Gainward card runs one more. My sound is delivered by a S/blaster Live card and my OS is XP Home with SP1a. I usually run the sim in window mode. From day one…

Hello, Try a circuit around Seattle international with the GPS off the whole time. Now try it with the GPS on and even try closing the window. It's very very smooth without the GPS for me, but as soon as I turn the GPS on - bad framerates and stutters. This is even after closing the GPS window! I'm looking into a way to close the GPS once the window is closed. I bet this is going to take some programming.I believe this is going to explain some of the bad performance near airports because It becomes worse and worse the closer I fly near an airport. This is of course if I had turned the GPS on in the first place. Otherwise- everything was fine. Bummer. I am curious if thi…

Misadventures Part 13: The Middle East part 2 is ready. This time I visit Tehran, Baghdad and Cairo. This is one of the best updates so far in my opinion, plenty of unintentional trouble to keep with the theme, and lot's of cool photo's from these most interesting of locations. Highlights: I try a special maneuver in Tehran, I leave Baghdad a little going away present and I hook up with an old friend in Cairo.http://paz8473.tripod.com
