I know this may be kind of silly but as most of us have seen in the past few months that the new Micsosoft Flight Simulator is known by many names in these and other forums...Will the Real Microsoft Flight Sim Please Stand Up?1. FS9?2. FS2004?3. FSCOF?I have never seen this happen before in any other version of M$FS as well as any other flight simulator... This is my take on it so far. We know that the name on the box is Flight Simulator 2004", but M$ also called the install folder "Flight Simulator 9" as well as putting the extended title on the box as "Century of Flight" 'Sheeze, this is enough to drive an armchair flyboy into getting his medical revoked!' :-)What do…

Its pretty difficult finding really bad weather in Europe at the moment, but I managed to find some in Sweden. The joy of seeing your 737 in some taxing weather is beautiful to the eye but not to the CPU.. LOL50% 3d cloud percentage and MEDIUM coverage...This is based on an XP2800 and GeforceFX5900Clean system with just FS and XP on it.Roll on the winter eh !!!!!!

FS2004: Hi, I am unable to lock / unlock the tailwheel with the switch in the cockpit or by pressing the SHIFT-G key (e.g. DC-3). Here is what in my opinion should happen: if I unock the tailwheel and move the rudderpedals the tailwheel should also move. Am I right?Well nothing happens when I use the SHIFT-G or the cockpit switch! The airplane much harder to steer on ground! Can somebody give me a hint? Thank you guys.Regards Frank

I swear I'm either amazed at how cool the entire scenery and weather look, and at other times it just looks cartoonish compared to FS2002. I DO love how the Lear flies now--and all aircraft are VERY smooth. But again, I'm either going wow or scratching my head! I was using AugoGen, enhanced buildings, real edge clouds, landclass and 75m terrain in FS2002, and again it somehow looks more realisc often. Are you having a mixed reaction as well or no?Noel

It's a travesty I tell ya! Yes, they've added alot, but how could they leave out Nakajima, Kawanishi, "zero," and "george" from the types and models?!?!? *grin* MS, really has added a lot of call signs to their database, but they should've added some generic one's beyond "experimental" like "warbird" or "Vintage" or "classic", etc. (no, I'm not up to delving into voicepacks yet for a couple of missing call signs)

After much struggling, I finally managed to get the excellent Frankfurt/Main 2.4 scenery to show up in FS2004. But in the SCENERY LIBRARY, it just says "ADDON SCENERY." I cannot for the life of me get it to be displayed as "Frankfurt City." This is very confusing after FS2002. Can anybody help out please? Appreciate posts, thanks!JS

Has anybody developed enhanced VC lighting for FS2004 as we had for FS2002? It's sub-optimal in the jets. I recall installing some small files that really improved the lighting in the 737/737/777 of FS2002 that also had two or three types of brightness.Appreciate any advice or guidance here, thanks!JS

Hi,I've been playing with the Hardware-rendered lights slider, trying to see what affect it has on the scene. I've tried it at 4, 6, and 8. I can't see any change in the way the VC view or Spot view is rendered. I also can't see any appreciable hit in frame rate. Can someone explain to me how I can see the visual effect of this slider? Also what framerate hit should I be seeing on a PIV-2.8, 512Mb PC2700, Radeon 9800 Pro system? Thanks,

For those who have dl'd and used my recent Mirage update, Michael Verlin with my blessing has released an excellent panel update and repaint in the same package. I encourage folks interested to give it a try. The Mirage is a rather nice 200+ kt cruiser...One important note: If you've downloaded my recent model update, do not replace the mdl file with the one included in Michael's package. That will restore my original mdl vs. the update...Here's a link to Michael's excellent package and very authentic repaint:http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...04ac&DLID=34673-John

Hi, like a lot of non-us citizens is my home country not as detalied as most of the US. No problems with that considering that MS is US. But I would love to have some more detailed mesh for Denmark and mayby some more detailed airports. Then again, I'm a FS newbie and don't know is FS2002 scenary can be included in FS2004. And I don't want to mess up my FS2004.So does anyone no something or have some links to some "Danish" projects?CheersMark "Cougar" JensenDenmark

Anyone have the C-152 or Bonanza working in fs9? Im just curious, they worked in my press beta, but not the release version. I can confirm the Tomahawk works ok here, nice little VFR machine.I liked the Carenado 152 and would like to get it working, I am occasionally getting a mdl issue or something else and it crashes the sim.ThanksHornit

It started like this... When I installed FS9 my computer suddenly, and with no prior indication, restarted itself as the install program was finishing up and extracting the world senery. I uninstalled the partial FS9 off my HD and tried again... same thing happened. I for what ever reason decided to install from my CD-RW drive instead of my DVD drive. It worked! But when I opened the flight planning window my computer would do the sudden and abrupt restart (it does this when I try filing a flight plan while inflight too). Everytime the system restarts it send Microsoft the error and pops up a remote problem anylist window in IE, which says that it's an unknown driver erro…

Is it just me, or do even really well done aircaft models (ie those from Carenado and Dreamfleet, for example) look too "bright" and washed out in spot view? Seems like they looked more metallic, and the details showed better in FS2002?Best,Joel

In view of the many reported troubles with FS9,I thought that just for fun,I'd see how,or if,it would run on something a bit slower than my normal system.I have an system made of spare parts which my granddaughters use to play "toddlers" games on. It has a MS 663AS Ultra motherboard, and AMD 700mhz CPU and 256mb of SDRAM.The only good thing going for it is that it has a reasonably modern graphics card ( ATI Radeon R900/128mb- by no means the best but far from the worst.).OS is WinXP home. The hardest thing about getting FS9 running on the system was the long wait while it loaded the software via an ancient 6x CDROM.However it eventually got it all in with no hangups ,p…

Ok, so I downloaded the utility to change the AI taxi speed. It now supports FS9. The problem is, I can't even run it! I get a "run-time error 76 path not found" message and that's it...I did have that problem once with FS2002, and a few months later I did a cleanup on my computer and reinstalled everything. Then, it worked!! The thing is, I just did that 2 days ago and I really don't want to reinstall FS9. Another reason is that I was having problems with the PDMG 737 NG and I managed to install it right. I don't want to have to do it again. If anyone know another way to increase the AI taxi speed, or another utility out there, please help!! Thanks.Buckdanny

I just got my October issue of PC Gamer Magazine and they did a review of FS2004COF this month. The sim received a 90% overall rating and the PC Gamer Editor's Choice award, which means it is a must buy, and I have to agree with them!I have a lower end system (PIII 1 GHZ with a Nvidia Geforce 4 MX440 card) and I am getting GREAT results. The sim is running very smooth with most sliders maxed out and I am getting reflections and water motion effects with my system.I still have FS2002 installed, but honestly, I am not flying in the 2002 version much anymore, now that I have my system tweaked up in COF. In fact, I would say that overall my system performance is much better wit…

Anyone have a different airfile for this beast??? I love the aircraft, but I can't get it flying with out a really long runway and then I have a tail flap anomally where they start flapping really fast (totally unrealistic) and it just flies straight up from there, have seen this behavior in a few other aircraft as well in the past. Greg stated in thwe readme that he doesn't know much about airfiles, so I thought I would ask here.Regards, Michaelhttp://mysite.verizon.net/res052cd/mybannercva1.jpgCalVirAir International VAwww.calvirair.comCougar Mountain Helicopters & Aviationwww.cgrmtnhelos.com
