I was playing around with the water settings in FS2K4 just yesterday, and I noticed that the water actually looks better when you set water effects to "none"! I don't particularly like the reflective effects of the FS2004 water, and it looks strange when its a milky colour, but when you set water effects to "none", the colour looks a whole lot better and the water actually looks quite realistic. The waves lapping against the coast are still there, and the ripples on the water look amazing! I also get a boost in FPS.I'd like to know what other people have found with the water, and what your opinions are.James

Okay, I'm getting a little frustrated. I'm having a problem with my winXP virtual memory settings. Running FS2K4, mid level settings on all sliders, except AI traffic at 90%. Running 1024x768x32, and I keep getting that damned virtual memory warning, after a little while of it, the sim finally just shuts down with an error message. What's the problem here. My virtual memory settings are set to system managed size, I've got plenty of space for it, I just don't know what to do now. System specs:AMD 2600 @ 2.16ghz512 MB 3200 RAMATI Radeon 9800 Pro60 GB 7200 HDWinXP Pronothing else running, I'm even getting decent performance until I get the dreaded virtual memory messa…

hi,I downloaded his panel today for the first time and have not used it before in fs2002. (Im now on fs2004) When I load the airplane the PFD is completely black with some numbers around the borders and stuff but you cant see the artificial horizon. Is there something Im missing? Or is the panel not compatible with fs2004? (Ive aligned the IRS also) Is there something else I need to do besides aligning the IRS to get the horizantal horizon visible?thanks,Andrew

Hi,in my lone and sometimes desperate tries to tune my system for FS9 i found something that wasn't mentioned before in these forums.Maybe it's just me, but to me it's an eye opener and it solves some of my problems. Don't expect anything miraculous though, i'll leave that to others. It all started when i bought a new video card to replace my rusty GF2MX. In my case i replaced it with a Radeon 9600 (non Pro). After installation i found (then still using FS2002) that none of the settings in ATI Control Panel (AA/AF,etc) had any effect in my display. Neither quality nor performance was affected. In FS9 the same situation occurred. I tried about everything (won't go into all t…

I posted this in the Radar Contact forum, but thought I would ask here also.....I use two 17" monitors that are connected to my GeForce 4MX 440 card and I like to have all my radio windows and the AdvDisp window on the second monitor. This was no problem with FS2002, but with FS2004, the AdvDisp text window disapears once I move it to my second monitor and interact with any of the aircraft radios or instrumentation. (It is visible until I click on something else.)I have tried docking and locking the position of the window to the second monitor, but it doesn't keep the AdvDisp text window "on-top" of the other windows.I know that the AdvDisp window is still on the 2nd monit…

Hi, I tried to install a file from avsim that will add a more realist wind sound to cockpit when flying. It says this file can be used for any aircraft. I opened files for boeing 737 but I don't see a section titled "wind sound". In order to get the sound, the author gives info. that must be pasted in. Can someone tell me how to find the wind sound in aircraft folder? Thank yu, S.

Anyone else see the new golf course landclass tileset in FS2k4? I just installed the FSGenesis landclass update, and it looks like some tilesets that Justin used are now golf courses. Ironically, there was one in my home town right where there should be! They're green, with a few small ponds, and you can see a bunch of white-ish sand traps.I really need to learn how to create landclass files now!Paul

Hi All;Is anyone else having a problem getting FS2K4 to run on their system time?I just can't get mine to start in sync with my computer. FS2K2 always started with the day and time of my computer but, FS2K4 only wants to start at 10:30AM on July 29th, which is when I loaded it onto my computer and ran it for the first time.I checked the FS9 CFG file and it has SYSCLOCK=1, which I think is the line that shows that it is set.Does anyone have any idea what I need to do to make it sync up with my computer?HELP!!!!Thanks maxsdadhttp://jdtllc.com/images/RCsupporter.jpg

While I am quite satisfied with MS Flightsim's latest version, there are two things which do annoy me and which prevent me from giving it a 10/10.2D CLOUDS: Ok, the 3D clouds look great, but those of us who have to reduce the 3D clouds slider to anything less than 100% are treated to JARRINGLY UGLY 2D clouds. Mercifully they only show up in the distance, but even then they can ruin the suspension of disbelief when flying. Why, why, why do they have to be so ugly! Whhhy!!! FSW Worlds cloud patch does help somewhat (thank you FSW), but on my 1.3GHZ 512MB RAM Geforce FX5200 system, I still need to reduce the 3D cloud percentage somewhat to keep flyable framerates and am tr…

A message for all you wingers and moaners.I needed to update my Seneca V to FS9 but couldn't get the migration tool to work. After all else failed -"I read the FAQ section!!!" and realised I needed the original download. You guessed! I couldn't find it. I filled out the request form for a replacement file and within 5 minutes Steve Small had emailed me back with the link for the FS9 installer which I downloaded.Superb service. It would have been so easy to blast off at FSD immediately I hit a problem, problems which were in general of my making. I respect their difficulties with piracy and in no way does it inconvenience anyone if the developer responds in the manner S…

I have what will probably seem like a pretty stupid question to those of you who are more computer hardware literate than I am. With my present setup, in order to maintain what "I" feel is an acceptable frame rate, I run FS9 in windowed mode at 1024x768x16 resolution. I am using a Geforce FX5200 PCI card. Running AA from within FS9 causes to great of a frame rate hit, and using 2xAA in fullscreen mode causes the obvious display problems everyone has been having. Today however, I accidently left my AA setting at 2x and then restarted FS9 in windowed mode and it "appears" as though the AA is working. It's a little hard to tell at this resolution and only 2x, but it sure doe…

  17. These two options run incredibly slow on my system, which I believe to be a very good system. I typically have to wait about 45 seconds for each selection (such as a new departure or arrival airport) to be found and recorded. The same with "finding the route" in Flight Planner.Has anyone else noted this? Is there a reason other than this is just the way it is?Thanks.P4 3.0 GHz on Intel 875 board1 GB of RAMeVGA GeForce FX 5900 Ultra with 45.23 driver (it still flickers)ViewSonic PF790 monitor

First, the good news:It's now 6:10PM PST, 8/13/2003, here in Phoenix. Treat yourselves to a Real Weather experience. We have T-storms moving in topping out at FL600... Should be interesting flying for anyone in the forums at the moment who wants to DL real weather.Bad news--I have to drive in it. Seven years ago, one of these cells hit us with sustained winds of 100mph for around half an hour. Ain't no fun when you drive a little 4 banger :(-John

Here are my very first impressions of FS9. They relate mainly to installation issues, as well as my impressions gained from several hours flying whilst attempting to tweak the sim. Obviously what I think of the new sim could be subject to change (read "hope" will be subject to change!). Although some of the things I will say have been said by many others as well, I still think it is useful to post my early opinion - as this sort of post is exactly what I have been seeking myself over the last few weeks. I am running Windows 98SE with an Athlon 1500XP and Ti 4200 card and 512Mb RAM.Firstly, installation was a nightmare - it took all of 5 hours before I was able to fire the…

AllI have always used 38m mesh since it has been available but Im noticing a big change from fs2 to COF. When flying in the cascades east of seattle which is very mountaineous an enourmous amount of peaks and valleys to be drawn for both the default mesh, but especially using 38m mesh. Looking forward as opposed to side vision is where the redrawing/adjustments are most noticible. It is soooooo annoying compared to fs2 that it is almost pitiful. I do have a high end system with a 9800 pro and really most flying is really enjoyable as far as the eye candy is concerned but the mountain flying is really annoying. It is constantly making adjustments and really takes away from…

Hello,When ATC sound starts to play the sim does a quick pause, this happened in FS2002 too and I tested the FS2004 in a Microsoft event and I could see the pauses when ATC plays as well. So it isn't only my system, but my sound is onboard.Any idea ?Thanks,Ulisses

Hi,I really would like to know whether other people are having the same graphics problems I am having with FS9 using an ATI Radeon 9800Pro graphics card. I am well aware of the fact that there is an issue with the Radeon 9700/9800 in FS9, as acknowledged by ATI, but I am not sure if I am having the same kind of problems as other people. My biggest concern is the random appearance of verticle black stripes as you can see in the attached screen shots taken a few seconds apart. This really makes FS9 pretty much unusable for me. Other applications, like FS2k2 and Fly! II, work flawlessly. So far I have tried about every possible graphics setting both inside and outside FS9. I …

I have a windows XP problem. The problem is with my system, and I see this problem when using this site. Again, the problem is with my PC, not AVSIM.I start on AVSIM front page, select one of the FS2004 Original aircraft. A new page appears - OK. Then I notice there is a LINK to a preview JPG file, so that you can get a better look. I click on this link, and I get a hour glass, and it never loads.I see this any time I try to link to any of the preview files. It is if I can't complete a 2nd link within a page. Hard to describe. Any ideas how to fix this without starting over (reformat etc.)Thanks,Jim B
