Hello,I have the following systemDell Pentium4 2.4GHz512 MB RamWindows XP ProNVIDIA GeForce4 Ti4200 64 MBFS9I was wondering whether an upgrade of the video card to one with 128MB or higher would help this system or would this be a waste of money?Also, any special cards there that are 'reliable', meaning, do not need a totally experienced computer guru to fiddle around with drivers etc to get a good performance?Any help is greatly appreciated.Regards

While happily sim flying last night the following warning came up on Norton:-Backdoor Sinit virus detected.Svcinit.exe infected.After following removal advice, now I am having problems booting up fs9. It is having to setup scenery indexes again.Now I believe that this svcinit file is a generic file across windows, but I am unsure if this is the reason for Fs9 boot up problems I am now having.Whereas I do have broadband, so wide open to anyone, I believe this infection could have occurred when accessing real world weather.Just a warning!Ronald Glasgow

I posted this one many moons ago.Has there been any programs/addons developed that add a virtual FSS? I would love to file a flight plan and have the FSS tell me "VFR not recommended".That last bit of advice seems to be ignored by quite a few pilots and they end up in big problems (look at the book "They called it pilot error" by Robert L. Cohn a very good read)I suppose this could be done through online like VATSIM. but I'd like to see a seperate addon. I seem to recall a fellow here working on something like this. Any comments/suggestions?Andy

Just got a brand new Dell Dimension 8300 last Friday and since Sunday have been receiving blue screens of death after an unfixed number of minutes playing FS2004. The error that shows up is BUGCODE_USB_DEVICE. This seems only to happen while playing FS. Has anyone had this message before? Any solutions? I've noticed that since I installed those beautiful water textures from Bill Lyons that I am now experiencing frequent stutters and pauses. I do not necessarilly have to be viewing the water when this occurs. In fact it happens while taxiing at an airport with no water in view.I noticed in the forum on Rage 3D that some others are also experiencing the same thing in FS2004 with this new file.BTW, I am using the 3.8 Catalyst drivers with a Radeon 9800 Pro.Just wondering if anyone here has seen this or knows of a possible solution?Thanks a lot,

Hi,Although this could probably be fixed with a new installation, I've got so many custom aircraft, scenery, tweaks etc that I'm hoping to avoid that.The trouble is that when creating a flight from scratch using the main menu, the weather setting I create under "Selected Weather" isn't used. Instead, it reverts to a 'default' weather setting each time. It's just impossible to create different weather pre-flight!The weather setting it reverts to seems to be from a previous flight (20mi vis/8kts wind etc.), and sticks no matter what else I select.I've erased the FS9.cfg, deleted saved flights and changed the default without success.Please help!Paul

Hi allI have recently made a set of dual throttles, two axises, which work on 100kohm linear pots, ( as recommended by other builders). I hooked up two buttons and every thing was fine, with no problems calibrating and using them...However, I have added two more axises (100kohm, linear pots) to use as trim and pitch adjustment...I hooked them up according to another guys recommendations (15pin setup) Here is the catch! When I go to calibrate them, when the throttle arms (axis 1 and 2) are in certain positions my computer says they are 'not connected' and if I move the throttles off idle it says they are 'connected ( ok comes up)Finally, in my diagnosis I noted that when I…

I've never had a problem with FS9 like this and it reminds me of how KPBI was in 2002 at night. Once I landed in Missoula, Montana KMSO I got 1FPS while moving. Once to a complete stop I went back to 18FPS try rolling and back to 1FPS. Took off with 1FPS and the second I was airbourne went back to normal FPS. My set up isP4 2gig512ram5600 golden ultratried both 42 and 56 drivers same resultshave renamed that gas station autop gen file as .bakAny idea guys or can anyone replica this problem?BTW found a few good fields on this flight grass next to rivers. What in your opinion are must have freeware add-ons for FS2004 that enhance the experience?In my opinion, Chris Willis' clouds update that improves frames is a messed.I also think Bill Lyon's updated water textures are a must.Any others you recommend?

What in your opinion is the best freeware 767 and 777 that is compatible in FS2004?For 707s, I only tried the HJG 707s updated for FS2002 and they don't work very well in FS2004. I don't know of any other 707s for FS2004.As for 717, probably Project Skyworks, but I haven't tried any.For 727, I haven't seen any at all! I remember there was one really good one for FS2002 painted in American Airlines livery, but I'm not sure how well it works in FS2004.I think the FFX 737s are the best. One of the things that surprised me most about night flying in getting my PPL was just how dark it really is! I can approximate the effect by adjusting monitor contrast and brightness with FS9 but the VC is still way too bright. While 2D panels seem to provide subtle backlit instruments with or without a dome flood light, the VC seems limited to just a super bright pink flood. You might not even notice this unless you are flying the sim in a dark room. Is there any way to darken the VCs? This seems to be just as true in Dreamfleet and other high quality models. Hi All,I have a question I was wondering if anyone can answer. I have installed Ben Henke's das8md83flyable.zip to make the MD-83 flyable and am using FIDG's very nice MD-83 panel with it. I have a problem where the landing gear won't extend until I bring the speed down to 120 kts. Seems the landing gear should be able to come down earlier than that as you pretty much stall at that low of airspeed. I took a look at the aircraft.cfg file but it it does not appear to contain a setting for the landing gear speed. Any ideas?Also, tuning VOR1 works fine but tuning VOR2 does nothing in/on the RMI gauge. There is no RADIO section in the aircraft.cfg file. Do you think I can just…

Hey ppl,After a 2 month break from FS I'm back in business!I recently upgraded my video card to an Abit Nvidia FX5200. I'm not sure whether the following is due to the card or not but I get different frame results when running FS in Full Screen Mode and Window Mode. In effect the difference is dramatic - In Full Screen I get very low frame rates (10 frames/sec) whilst in Window Mode I get extremely high frame rates (> 50 frames/sec). Needless to say, with such frame rates, flying in window mode is fantastic. However the disad. is that you get the menu bar constantly visible together with Windows' program tray.I always thought that running in Full Screen would generate …

This may have been addressed earlier, but I couldn't find it in a search.I now have my mediocre system (1.2 GB Athlon w/Ti4200 and 512 MB) working fairly well, with frame rates in the upper teens to mid twenties and nice crisp images. But . . .After about five minutes, the scenery stops updating as I fly along the landscape. It starts out sharp and crisp, but within five minutes or so, changes to a blur, especially close to the aircraft. I am using Justin's USA mesh, along with a couple of his other packages.But here is the strange part. For those of you who downloaded AFCAD2, you may find it is not self-registering with FSUIPC. This is because the program was misnamed. It should have been named AFCAD.exe but was instead named AFCAD2.exe. I have corrected the name and uploaded AFCAD204.zip again, but for those who have already downloaded, if you have the AFCAD2.exe version then rename it to AFCAD.exe. I just did a flight from KACY to KBWI. The whole way I was bothered by the "Flying tips" window. First it was "start your engines" then the entire flight it press "B" blah blah..... Very irritating to say the least.I have it unchecked in the settings "General" menu but that does not seem to work. I poked around the FS9.cfg file but couldn't find it. Any input is greatly appreciated!Andy

I've just about decided on getting MyTraffic 2004, but I have a couple of questions. 1) I have read several posts stating that the planes in MT look inferior to those in Ultimate Traffic. 2) I have also read several posts stating that MyTraffic eats more frames than Ultimate Traffic. 3) It is my understanding that BOTH products use planes created by PAI, so shouldn't they look identical in both products? Also, since they both use the same source for their planes, shouldn't the frames be identical? Any comments, both positive and negative about MyTraffic will be much appreciated, as I like to do my research before I plunk down my hard earned cash. Thanks again.
