From the www.darwinawards.com website:Plane Stupid 1981 Honorable MentionUnconfirmed by Darwin "(February 1981, California) Phoenix Field airport in Fair Oaks had been subject to recurring petty thefts from neighborhood teenagers, so a security firm was retained to patrol the grounds. Thefts decreased sharply, but fuel consumption was on the rise. This puzzling situation continued until late one night, when a passerby noticed a flaming airplane on the field. By the time the fire department arrived, the plane had completely melted into the tarmac. While they extinguished the residual flames, the passerby noticed a uniformed figure lying facedown several yards away. It was …

Well, after posting a few days ago that Mr. Miller at airindigo.net had ceased offering downloads from his site it seems he's had a change of heart. He's back at it again, charging for downloading authors' freeware creations. What I find curious is that, like Ferdy's site, airindigo.net is a mirror for VOLftp in Italy. One can only wonder how many of the hobby's authors have actually uploaded their works to VOLftp?Greg

http://volftp.mondadori.com/e/j/flight.jsp...2&month=aug&p=1Ferdy put fake URLs on the links to the downloads on the main FSPLANET site. That up there is the main URL. You see, you can get really fast download speeds there, even faster and more stable than AVSIM! Another one of Ferdy's dirty tricks...http://212.212.159.238/svedude/imagesP/banner1.jpg______________________________________________________________________If you wanna bash FSPlanet & its webmaster Ferdy Serena, a freeware poacher, please go [a href=http://www.geocities.com/sia777fan//ferdybashing.html]HERE![/a]

OK, Cathay are based in Hong Kong, which is now part of China again. They are owned by the Swire Group, which, according to their web page, is a multinational group based in Hong Kong. So... Is Cathay a Chinese airline?Anyone got any thoughts or ideas about this one? Or even the correct answer ;-)Regards,Dave.

[http://www.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3cc5d15671f44040.jpg] How much space is FS2002 taking up on your hard drives?I was cleaning up mine today and thought I'd take a look to see why other than FS is there 8 gigs of crap on my 10GB HD.Turns out FS is half that.Things installed in FS;FS Nav767 PICDreamfleet Cessna 421 and Piper ArcherLago's FSSEA ton of default repaints for AI useA ton of aircraft of all typesTons of panels and soundsand a ton of unused gauges that none of the uninstallers will remove (I keep getting runtime error 5 with gaugescan and wipe gauge?)As you can see from the screenshot, I've never had to reinstall this version of FS and these add-ons really …

http://www.mountainlight.com/new.htmlWhat a sad day for us all!"The Aero Commander they were in crashed this morning while on final approach to Bishop Airport. "One wing dipped down uncharacteristically. The plane crashed hard on the ground. All four passengers were killed instantly. The wreckage is mostly small pieces. The plane was being flown by Tom Reed who started the Life Flight service here in Bishop and has been a pilot for over 30 years. ...NTSB investigating ...mechanical failure..."

Taken from Airliners.netEnjoy!Take careMikeA chemistry mid term examThe following is an actual question given on a University of Washington chemistry mid-term exam. The answer by one student was so "profound" that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well.Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)? Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law, (gas cools off when it expands and heats up when it is compressed) or some variant. One student, however, wrote the following: "First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changin…

Hi all, some of you may have flown my fs2000 version of Harvey Field. A new version for fs2k2 is on the way, with photoreal terrain that extends to include Monroe's Firstair field. Harvey happens to be pretty close to home and is probably my favorite airport anywhere. The corn roast is going to be a blast, given good weather, and I'm going to take my family.I know some of you are local to the pacific nw....it would be fun to meet some of you...Ken Meir, Ken Nelson, Jac of Sky!, Ray, jb, etc.etc. hope to say hello!Bob BernsteinEdmonds, Wa.

I have noticed a320 and 737 at EGGP (Liverpool, UK) backtracking down the Runway because of taxiway maintenance. Some Airports must require this all the time. Can anyone answer the following questions.1. What is the minimum turning circle of various aircraft?2. How are the turns made, is it using brakes, engine control or both as well as nose wheel steering?(I tend to use the grass too much, thought a strimmer on the nosewheel would be a good add-on)3. Does FS2k2 ATC clear you for take off as you enter the runway or when you line up?Thanks for any help you can give?Terry:-hmmm A puzzled simmer

When I look at an aeronautical chart, there are many D, R and P areas. As a sim fligher, I never cared about them, but nevertheless I am curious. Take e.g. the area south of Plymouth (UK). There are 5 Danger Areas in a chain, together they form a bigger area. They are marked as D9M, D8M, DM, D3M and D4M.South of Portsmouth there are D30M, D38M, D39M, D40M and D37M.Is the last part (after the D) an identifier or does it tell us something about the kind of danger you can expect there? If they are only identifiers, how to know about the danger?Same thing of course for Restricted Areas. How to know which restrictions?http://httpd.chello.nl/~j-kusters/logo.gif(When my sig does…

Why I hang out in the Newsgroups is beyond me, but I make the mistake repeatedly, and get sucked into discussions I shouldn't. Anyway, one of the latest threads in one of the newsgroups is the old one about free file access versus pay for sites or in the case of AVSIM, donations. Hopefully we can engage in some thoughtful discussion here about the subject. Here's the latest in that thread that I posted:"> What has been implied by somebody at Avsim is that EVERYBODY will have to> pay to download these files eventually...... this was the comment thatgot> me annoyed. That would have been me. And what I said was:"Well, I have news for you. As a group that spends thou…
