Just wanted to know were you all were and your first reaction to 9/11/02? This was the day that changed everything. The aviation world will never be the same. Even Microsoft Flight Simulator was affected on this day.Tough to think it has been a year already.

It seams that Deleted MGT. have resorted to taking hammers to aircraft. A few weeks ago, we had an aircraft with a cracked wingtip nav light lense cover. It was not deferable unless the crack extended to a fastner hole and we had no lense covers in stock. So to avoid having an out of service aircraft, a foreman went out and stood on a ladder and "TAPPED" on the lense cover with a hammer to try to extend the crack to the fastner hole. Needles to say, he shattered the lense cover. Can you say "BEST MAINTENANCE". If an AMT was caught doing that, he or she would be walked out. All our manager said was, "his intentions were good". Yesterday we had a 737 with a dent on the lead…

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone here could provide some good sources for information on glass cockpit systems. I need information on things such as how they are implemented and the backup systems used alongside them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have found an occasion to sing the praises of a certain Payware company I have recently had the good fortune of dealing with. The company in question is RealAir Simulations (http://www.realairsimulations.com), I recently read, on a well known FS website, that they were about to release a SIAI-Marchetti SF.260 for FS2K2, I headed over to their site and immediately purchased a copy for $25. It looked great in the screenshots. The download went fine, and the self installer with which it is supplied started up alright BUT it failed to finish the install. I recieved error messages everytime I tried to install it. Devestated, I contacted Rob Young, one of their staff, who…

I've just finished wading through Eagle92395's thread about what other games people play. Cool thread! But I saw David Freeman's post there saying that he doesn't like video games... only simulators.I was wondering what people think about where to draw the line between a video game and a sim. Is FS2002 a game? What about IL2? What about Falcon 4.0? What about operation Flashpoint? Blimey... where's that line?Simon.

I live on the approach to KOQU (Quonset State, fmr Navy base), and that is where the RI Air Natn'l Guard is based.Tonight, an old 4 engine prop plane flew the approach. It looked to be a military transport. She flew over twice tonight, so here's what I came up with...At first glance I thought it was a Connie, because it had a distinctive tail. But I'm pretty sure it only had two vertical stabilizers, ruling that out. The two stabilizers were mounted to the end of the long horizontal one, and were roughly rectangular with rounded corners. It is getting towards twilight here, but I think it was painted in a military green color, with some nose art as well. Normally all we g…

I was out flying for real this weekend and was about to depart at an uncontrolled airport. Just before crossing the Hold short line, this little tail dragger comes out of no where over the threashold. It looked like either a home built or a really old airplane. He was not making any announcements in the pattern. So he was on the wrong freq. or he didn't have a radio. He was also doing really steep, short approches. I looked in the FARs for required day VFR equipment on aircraft and radio was not listed. Am I missing something? How can aircraft not be required to have radios. This guy was a danger to himself and everyone in the pattern. DAVID C. FREEMANCONTINENTA…

Tom you shut down a thread about some moron that saya the WTC attacks were some kind of hoax put on by the US gov. You stated that the reason was there was already enough speculation about 9/11 and shut down the thread. (Personally I don't believe a word of that but it made for a good insight into the mind of a paranoid delusion -always entertaining in my books)Why not shut down the thread about the fuel pumps in Boeing airliners as there has been plenty of speculation already about TWA 800?Just seems to be a double standard there. But it is your sandbox after all.JMHOCF-AOA

The story starts with an Air New Zealand 747 losing a 10Kg (22 lb) chunk of flap. Turns out that there were only four screws (of the 125) holding this bad boy down... and that the flap was marked with red tape to indicate that it was under repair. [A HREF=http://onenews.nzoom.com/onenews_detail/0,1227,129162-1-7,00.html]Story here.[/A]Okay, two questions...When there's red tape all over a wing panel, wouldn't you think that the PIC is ultimately responsbile for taking note of that before departure?Let's say you are the PIC and you notice said red markings on a wing. Would you not think something along the lines of "Wow. Wonder what the heck the story might be with tha…

Did any of you guys in the uk watch that program about that french guy Meyssan, who claims the september 11 attacks was planned by people within the U.S government. This man claims the the two planes that crashed into the wtc where flown in by remote control, the pentagon was hit by a missile and the fourth plane was shot down by a fighter jet. What's incredible about this man's claims is that he hasn't even visited the U.S or interviewed any eyewitnesses about the event.

Hey All,While it is impossible to figure out who came up with this first (credit is flying everywhere of course), someone did the sensible deed and opened up the new Nvidia Detonator Driver control panel in a resource viewer. Looks like there's more than a few hidden gems in there, a few for NForce users only. But, for everyone, theres an EXCELLENT new feature thats been needed from Nvidia forever: a built in Direct3D refresh rate fixer. While works great and should probably continue to be used by the majority, this may be a better solution for some since it comes directly from Nvidia:http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3d7043c05201c1d7.gifThe "CoolBits" registry en…

No, not the real thing, the junk that arrives in your email. This subject has been previously discussed in these forums, but I thought to air my experiences with it. I have gone for the simple solution; that of signing up with a spam filtering company. It was a painless process, no files to download or install; no need to change my email address. I have read horror stories of such companies filtering genuine emails that happened to contain certain key words, but this company keeps a log of blocked emails for thirty days and having checked it, I found that the eighty or so emails they had blocked in that time were all spam. Had there been a genuine email in the log, I…
