They posted a link on their website to a Forbes article, which explained more clearly why they terminated their relationship with Williams. I guess the issues were twofold--not enough power, and the engines proved too fragile in relation to things like birdstrikes. But I have to question the issue on power. Certainly Eclipse did some basic research, and knew whether two 700 lb thrust engines would be sufficient. It makes me curious whether the Williams engines were weaker than expected, or whether the Eclipse designers had unrealistic expectations. I guess the talk is to replace the 80 lb Williams engines with larger ones--about 250 lbs from what Forbes says. This wil…

I saw it, I did.At about 21:30 hrs PST, Dec 8th. In the western sky at about 45 degrees above the horizon. They were too orange to be stars and moved ever so slowly. Smaller than the sensor resolution of my camera but I viewed them with binoculars. I even noticed tiny, tiny lights (missiles?)moving from one of the lights in a straight line. After several minutes one of the lights faded away and the scond one did shortly after that. Hopefully a missile test from from Vandenburg.

I've e-mailed Scott Brazell and posted in the Avsim Forums forum, but I think everyone is one vacation over there. The "challenge" -- I run Netscape version 7.0 on a brand new computer with OS of XP Home Edition. None of Avsim's animated smiley icons are animated any more!! I miss them!! Anyone have an idea how I "wake 'em back up"? And it's not just here at Avsim either......... on the Incredimail website, none of the animations work there either. And that site keeps telling me I need an Apple Quicktime plugin. I already HAVE the Apple Quicktime plugin!!!Be aware, on my older computer (with Win98SE) I was also using Netscape version 7, and all the icons worked just…

HiAs I continue to read positive and negative comments on Wilco's Airport 2002 Vol. 1 I have finally come to a conclusion on my perception of the Wilco Company. I believe that Wilco has produced many great FS-Add-ons that has advanced or enriched our Flight Simulation experience. All of the controversy over the new product is very astonishing to me, as I have never seen such negativity and disapproval towards ones product. I believe that Wilco has created a technology that is very unique and impressive. Although with the flaws and shortcomings of the technology I do think that it can be improved. I also believe that Wilco has dug has made it hard on themselves which they …

I am looking for the "National Air Traffic" map that CNN Talk Back Live pops up during their show. There is a former ATC controller that gives a brief update on the current live traffic and has this map with all of the current aircraft in the air behind him. Does anyone know where this live feed (map) can be found? I have checked CNN, Goggle, and even here on the FAA's site, http://www.fly.faa.gov/flyFAA/index.htmlbut no map so far. No specific flights can be tracked and if they could, the feed would be time delays as is some of the other local sites on the web that show specific airports like BOS, LAX, SDF, etc. http://www.fly.faa.gov/flyFAA/index.htmlTerry

I know, I know... Hey, at least there's a plane in it. Air Power! Kind of depressing, though, isn't it... to have those wings and not be able to soar. Ahh, well. I bet these two were hanging around trying to bum a ride! Cheers,Phil Geddes

Hey Guys, I just found out about the Boeing 747X today, surpassing the new Airbus A380. For taping up holes no less. Not unheard of in Aviation, but UAL broke all the rules, and kept the "temporary" repairs way too long.http://www.nytimes.com/2002/12/05/business...&partner=GOOGLEbt

A question for any computer guru's out there! I am running an ASUS A7M266 motherboard with a 1.3 thunderbird cpu, 512 Mh of PC2100 ram and an Elsa 64 mg GF3 with a creative live! drive sound card. I am running this in a server case with a 400W Pwr. supply, and plenty of cooling. My OS is Win-Me. Is it worth it to upgrade my cpu with this motherboard and ram settup, or should I wait for the next advances in MOBO and cpu? Thank's From Jim

say, while flying at some altitude (cruising) I changed may indicated (CAS) airspeed by 1 knot (either increased or decreased). I am looking for a quick, practical formula that would tell me by how much my True Air Speed changed. I assume this formula should work quite well in "normal" range of speeds and altitudes but may produce some extra error above say 35,000 ft (in math that would be called a first order approximation). This is actually a quiz because I just came up with this simple formula ... Michael J.[link:jdtllc.com]http://jdtllc.com/images/RCsupporter.jpg

Hi guys,Did you know that in November 12th, 1996, the worst mid-air collision in aviation history & the fourth worst air disaster in the world, involved a Boeing 747? I'm sure some of you actually remember this horrific disaster, but since a lot of people haven't heard of it I thought that this would make an interesting read to those who like to read about air disasters. In the fateful evening of Tuesday, November 12th, 1996, Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia) flight 763, a Boeing 747-100B, departed from New Delhi's Indira Gandhi international airport, bound for Jeddah, Saudi Arabia with a stop in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. During the climbout, the Saudi 747 crew was maintain…

A quick and easy query for the Windows XP gurus, my son has managed to lose the 25 character identifying number that came with his copy of Windows XP Pro. This is not causing him problems since it has been activated for some time, it is only now that he has realised he no longer knows where the number is. I have tried searching my system for my number, but no joy. Does anyone have a solution to this problem other than my son and I tearing his place apart (it might yet come to that).Denis.
