I was actually screaming and laughing at one of the production openings for the new GTA3:Vice City game for Playstation. They imitated the C=64 bootup screen, and typed in the LOAD "*",8,1 -type stuff... then a C=64-like graphic and sound splash was played... EXCELLENT! Glad to see that many modern gamers and game programmers haven't forgotten the roots! Seriously - it was that surprising and fun to see!:)greg

I found this link via dpreview.com this morning. They are interested in the site for digital photo reasons, but it is quite interesting to us from an aviation view. http://www.californiacoastline.org/Their project is to digitally photograph the entire California coastline as a baseline of "before" photos to serve in the future detection of illegal coastline modification (destruction). They have over 7000 photos on their way to 10,000.It's pretty cool how they are putting this database together. You can read all about it on the site, but basically they have a GPS hooked up to a Nikon D1x camera, which automatically records the GPS location of each shot. They dump the pho…

    I. Quantum Teleportation. You have 1 COMPLETELY isolated molecule from EVERYTHING in Chicago, and another one in Berlin. You tickle the one in chicago, and the one in Berlin laughs at that very instant. Applications: Star-trek like teleporting of people and stuff. NOTE: You are 'killed' when they scan and 'dematerialize' you, and an EXACT duplicate of you is created somewhere else. Personally, I'd be VERY scared to try that one.See:http://www.research.ibm.com/quantuminfo/teleportation/II. Quantum computing. Uses the above technology to do work in a couple of seconds that would take a bank of the most powerful supercomputers to do in a million years.Applications: FS2092 wi…

  11. Greetings all.I've been doing an exhaustive web search for the recordings from January 4th, 1989 when two F-14's danced with some Libyan Migs. I know it was part of the "Fleet Defender" sim from Microprose back in 1993. It was also used in the backround music of Falcon 4.0 (although here it was edited). If anyone can direct me to a link to download this recording, I would be greatly appreciated. Preferably the unedited version as included on the Fleet Defender CD, because I don't have virgin ears. Thanks in advance.Dave

I had a very disturbing experience this evening, where I was in the middle of a flight, only to be interupted by a couple of little punks who thought it would be "cool" to jump into our RW server and yell and scream. They claim to be looking for "hackers who take over RW and get into our computers"! My first comment is frustration! I spent 2.5 hours on that damn flight! I kept getting kicked by the channel admin because he didn't know who it was (I don't completely blame him though...), but these little ##### completely ruined my evening!!!Is there no way to prevent these people from randomly joining our servers?!There are many of us who are just truly FS Sim fan's,an…

Well, I finally downloaded Mr. Grabowski's ERJ and, after spending my morning coffee reading over the panel handbook, decided to give the tutorial flight a go. Now I understand why there are two guys in the cockpit...But, I did manage to fly the approach manually reasonably well, pretty close to the numbers though a bit messy on the two base turns. I flew a nice approach, just slightly above the GS, putting her down reasonably close to the centerline, about 1500 feet down, on the mains, though didn't execute the double flare as well as I might have. Passengers wondered if we blew a nose wheel...I got to say, I havn't had such a fun day in a long time, and it didn't cost …

Usually with the big well known FS designers and groups, why does one release an airplane and then the next day another group releases the exact same thing, and I mean an exact duplicate. For instance, Meljet and Posky....out of nowhere posky releases pics of a Gmax 747-400 and 744F, just after Meljet releases his. Then again with Simubuild's A340-600 and FlightCraft. Do groups release under two different names and sites to look like they are the dominate one or to get more downloads because of both sites????? I've just been wondering.

Alexa does ratings of websites based on visits and links to, and gives each site a rating. I took a look at the standing of several popular sites and found the following.Avsim.com had a rating of 10,847, with 4/5 starshttp://www.alexa.com/data/details?url=avsim.comOur Friend, Ferdy, must be lying when he uses the tag "Beware! This site is addictive", since his rating is a dismal 45,473 (however, he did get 5/5 stars from his visitors...)But the big Kahuna of FS sites is venerable flighsim.com, with a rating of 6,491, and a 5/5 stars rating.http://www.alexa.com/data/details?url=flightsim.comThese are some pretty impressive numbers for both sites! Thanks for all your hard w…

I'm starting to fly Mike Stone's Meridian. In this turbine-prop, where do you read out prop - rpm. Throttle controls Torque OK, but while moving the prop affects flight characteristics, I do not see a way to read out the prop rpm directly as on his twin jet-prop Beech 1900D which does have prop rpm instruments. The included FS2K2 Pro Caravan 208b does not appear to show prop rpm instruments either.I bought a book "The Turbine Pilot's Flight Manual", 2nd ed., that explains theory and practical operations of turboprop and fanjet flying (highly recommended by me!). The turboprop instrumentation flow chart shows both torque and prop-rpm instruments off the gearbox off the prop…
