Does anyone sue the Zurich freeware scenery ? I have just installed it and am having a problem with the trees in the scenery.... instead of appearing as "normal" trees, they appear as blocks of tree textures with a black base. I have no idea as to how to get these to look like "normal" trees.Any assistance would be appreciated.DarekC

Hello folks...A sad day it is today. I don't consider myself a musician by any means. I can't read sheet music, for example. Anyway, I do play the American Indian flute, and todays events have inspired me to record a song in memory of the crew of Space Shuttle Columbia. It's called "Ride in the Sky".You can download the MP3 from here:http://www.visualflightrules.com/rideinthesky.mp3Enjoy... And let us never forget those brave souls lost today.

From the NASA Page:During the STS-87 mission, there was a change made on the external tank. Because of NASA's goal to use environmentally friendly roducts, a new method of "foaming" the external tank had been used for this mission and the STS-86 mission. It is suspected that large amounts of foam separated from the external tank and impacted the orbiter. This caused significant damage to the protective tiles of the orbiter. Foam cause damage to a ceramic tile?! That seems unlikely, however, when that foam is combined with a flight velocity between speeds of MACH two to MACH four, it becomes a projectile with incredible damage potential. The big question? At what phase of …

Hi Folks, here are some pics i took today while visiting LJLJ CTR and APP. It might look empty but RVR was very low, even 50 meters one time. I did see some interesting holdings and takeoffs, even a missed approach due to extreme fog. Some pics are good, the radar screen isn't really a quality pic but you'll see something. Check out the wx screen. Enjoy !Miro MajcenSenior Managing EditorAVSIM Onlinewww.avsim.com

This may seem like a simple question, but what qualifies as an "around the world" flight for record purposes. I assume there must be some minimum distance flown or some limit on latitude. Surely I can't land a mile or so from the pole, then take off, fly aound the pole and land, then claim to have made an unrefueled, around the world flight in 30 minutes and expect anybody to certify it. So what ARE the restrictions? anyone know?

Hi All,Feel free to use this.I was browsing at Nasa's website, and I decided to express my feelings. The Background was taken by Digital Camera on the current mission. All of the pictures are from the NASA Website.I then put it together in Photoshop. This is the small version. I have a larger one at my website here:{home.attbi.com/~Sonar5/Shuttle/memorial-sts-107.jpg}I am using it as my Background.Regards,Joehttp://home.attbi.com/~Sonar5/Shuttle/memorial.jpg

I am currently considering going back into the military and had a few questions about how the Air Force works (I was in the Army). I got out at grade E-3 due to EPTS (existent prior to service medical-honorable discharge). I have flat feet and was in the Airborne Rangers. Apparently they missed the flat feet thing on my medical exam and said that the flat feet = Airborne would probably cause me quite a few problems down the road so I got an honorable discharge. Which I find out now is no big deal, I just should choose an MOS other then Infantry (long road marches etc..lol)In the Army you get to choose your MOS if you scored high enough on the ASVAB and met the physical re…

Shuttle late for landing.... preliminary reports state..... fears that it went down. If this is true, may the good Lord keep their souls.NASA mission control lost communication with Columbia... they are presuming that it broke up during re-entry.

A question for all you real world pilots. I've been reading recently about a couple of instances of pilots trying to fly partial panel in bad weather and coming to bad ends. Everytime I hear about something like this, I wonder why the guy didn't just use the autopilot. Then it occured to me that if you've lost vacuum pressure and have no gyro reference, does the autopilot still function. So that's the question. Is the autopilot linked to the Attitude Indicator and thus fails when it fails, or does it have it's own independent system? Or does it vary from type to type?

I hope this is not viewed as "divisive"! If it is, delete it, but in my mind...shame on you. Keep it clean. No cheap shots please. This is "big stuff". November, 1941 and all that.http://www.interglobal.org/weblog/archives...061.html#002061Best to all, Peace on Earth.btPS...I'd pay for AVSIM. Its worth it. To say otherwise is disingenuous...much like the current debate around the war. Sadam is a butcher. You know it. I know it. The WORLD knows it.AVSIM is a GREAT deal for free. To do what it does costs. Who should pay? Tom? Again, to ignore the truth is disingenuous.bt

Hey All,One of the most insidious new forms of spam on the internet is Messenger spam. An easy solution is now available to fight this.Messenger spam will show up on your PC's desktop, looking as if it was a message directly from your OS. Those who have been bombarded with it know exactly how annoying it is (see the image below) - it is usually porn spam, but can be anything else under the sun. Worse, it is difficult to track where it came from because of the method it uses. All versions of Windows from 95 to XP (even with service packs installed) are susceptible to this new spam because it involves a default system service named "Messenger Service". This is enabled by…

Hi All,Many of you have taken my advice to use Ad-Aware Software to remove spyware. I am now rescinding my advice for the time being. They have admitted that their engine no longer can be kept current of the latest mutations.(Last Ad-Aware Ref File Update 9/24/2002)I am recommending Spybot Search and Destroy. (FREEWARE)Available Here:http://security.kolla.de/Once Ad-Aware comes out with a newer version, I'll check it out and advise, so until then, I suggest you remove it for the time being and switch over to Spybot Search and Destroy. If you have it, do this.1) Run Ad-Aware2) Get Spybot S&D3) Tell me how many new instances Spybot picked up that LavaSoft did not.Stor…

Hello,I seem to remember that there was a program that would change the reg numbers of GA Aircraft so that if I were flying in Poland, the regs would start with an SP, if in the US that the regs would start with an N... so forth and so on.....The problem is, I can't remember what it was called or where to find it. Any help would be appreciated.DarekC.

Well, I'll try this in this forum and see if I get an answer...Does anyone know anything about Great Plains Airlines? Their site seems up-to-date, and lists details on major expansions for first-quarter 2003, but I can't seem to find any of their flights on any tracking web pages. Are they still flying? It seems like a great little niche idea, and I hope for their sake that it works. Do they still have just the 2 J328s, or do they have more planes now?Any info is appreciated! :)www.gpair.com

Hi all,Find linked here a sobering article that details in laymans terms some of the technologies and frightening public policies we as Americans are embracing (or worse, ignoring while its being embraced). This soundly debunks years of "it could/would/will never happen here" denial.I don't know how many times I've heard the argument lately, "I'm a law abiding citizen, not a criminal, so it doesn't matter if the government or commercial enterprise track my every move". This article clearly points out the falicy in such thinking: it is the abuse such powerful systems like these allow on the average law abiding citizen (you and me) that makes all of this so dangerous. He…
