I was browsing Ebay and came across quite a number of computer systems and was quite interested in one of them. It appears it is a brand new Dell 4550 and they seem to go for $300-$400 and some even less. It's ONLY the box but that's all I need. I currently have a Celeron 1.3 w/384mb RAM and a GeForce2Ti 64 and am in need of upgrading.(My current system used to be a Dell 500mhz but I got the Powerleap upgrade a year ago along with a new video card-still using Win98) I can certainly use my current graphics card/sound and RAM since it is a bit lacking in those areas. What do you guys think??Dimension 4550 Series: Intel

I'm wondering if there are standardized measurements for the cost of operating an aircraft per passenger? Kind of the direct costs per the number of pax. The two aircarft I'm trying to compare are the B727-200 and the B757-200. Both are similarly sized as far as the number of pax, although I realize the commanility stops there :). I would assume the 757 is more efficient in direct operating costs (2 flight crew vs 3 for the 727, and more fuel efficiency); however the cost of acquisition would be higher for the 757- so debt payments or leasing costs couls be higher than the 727.Thanks for any info.Bruce.

Just wondering, but does anyone know of videos such as Just Planes videos that are of BizJets such as Lears, Citations, etc. or smaller General Aviation planes? There are many good ones of larger arirliners and commuters but I haven't heard of any for this other side of aviation. Thanks.

Insight Not Found Elsewhere http://www.aviationplanning.com/ From the Real WorldAn e-mail from an airline captain in uniform, on her way to work, who was singled out to have her carry-ons torn apart at a security check point."... .I asked what he was looking for. The screener said, 'scissors'. I asked why. He looked up and said... 'You can't have anything that would let you get control of an airplane!' ..."

Edited to anchor.Folks, excuse what follows, but both Mike Hambly (sound engineer extrodinare) and I felt this string of email from Ferdy had to see the light of day, and for you to judge the character of this guy. Please excuse my total disdain for this guy, but the devil made me do it.This all starts with an email that Mike and I received this afternoon:**********************************************************************Hi, Stay tuned at your post mail next week. A letter from my lawyers in USA will be delivered by DHL to both of you. There's a nice surprise inside. Good luck! This is a pretty serious subject, and I'm sorry if it's not appropriate but I've thought about it and I think its okay for me to ask this here. I know there are alot of very mature people here in the forums who could really positively influence my decision on this. I saw this infomercial from SMC (Specialty Merchandise Coporation), and it seemed very interesting to me. I've gotten lots of junk emails about home businesses, and I always threw them away. When I saw this one, it really seemed legit and seemed simple enough to do. Here's the website:http://www.smcorp.com/Basically, I wanted to ask you guys what you think of it and what your opinions are on whether or not I sh…

Hey all,Ran across an interesting link at (!?) this morning: A gentleman by the name of Stanley Durlacher has started up a company, FlyTimer Corp., and is marketing a relatively cheap ACARS communication device to the GA industry. For about $20,000 US, the XLLink will allow any GA pilot to access the ACARS network just like commercial pilots do. Evidently, with a small handheld PocketPC, or "electronic flight bag" as they market it, and the XLLink box installed (weighing 3 pounds and about the size of a shoebox) the ACARS network becomes fully accessible. Interesting to say the least - I wonder how many GA pilots would be interested in this, and actually invest in one…

Curiosity has killed the cat here...There is a Navy C-40A Clipper here on the ramp, with boarding ladder deployed. Are self-contained boarding ladders still available on the commerical 737NG's? :-outtahttp://www.flightsimnetwork.com/dcforum/Us...43942b48d2b.jpg

Talk about a paradigm shift! I was watching TV last night (instead of flying...sorry) :-) when a commercial for Bombardier (snowmobiles, not planes, unfortunately) came on. What was special about this particular commercial is that the voice over guy actually said the name of the company. And that's when my jaw hit the floor. For all these years, I thought the name was Bombadier, bomb-ba-deer, as in someone who drops bombs. When in reality, the name is Bombardier, bomb-bar-dee-ay, as in someone who drops bombs with a French accent. :-lolThis may be ancient news for some of you, and it might even be the first time you've actually considered pronouncing it the wrong wa…

Amelia Earhart's Fate : It seems appropriate with Microsoft's up-coming release of FS2004 "ACentury Of Flight" to mention Amelia Earhart. The search for Amelia Earhart has been called the "Holy Grail" ofaviation mysteries. It is a very controversial subject and it boils down to what you believe is what you believe. I belong to the AES (Amelia Earhart Society). We are a group ofresearchers (among a few other groups) who have studied the subject for many years. I hope to inspire a simulator aircraft designer to build a detailedLockheed 10E with the NR16020 registration number . I personallywouldn't be satisfied with anything less than the quality of MAAM's C-47 or their B-2…

Some time ago there was mention of a TV program using FS software about the Dam Busters. Those programs have just been shown on UK TV Channel 4 and I understand have been, or will be, shown on Discovery I think.Although the s/ware did not make make a particularly big impression on TV the whole program gave you a new respect for all the crews involved. For example I knew that the bouncing bomb had to be dropped very low but did not realise it had to be dropped from 60 feet originally, only later was it raised to 100ft.I also did not realise that most of the trip, about 6 hours, was flown at not much higher than 100ft, and at night. It was interesting to see a team of new RAF …

I recently purchased from Borders Books a book entitled The Big Six by Geoff Jones, a book that I would highly recommend to my fellow aviation fans who frequent AVSIM and other like sites. Most of the pics in the book were taken between 1990 and 2000 and contain some of the classic modern aircraft that are no longer with us, very sad (as I go for the box of tissues). The BIG SIX refers to Northwest, Delta, Continental, U.S. Airways, American, and United Airlines. Not only is it quite sad to see these carriers (potentially all of them) bite the dust in the next few years, but also to note some of the beautiful pictures contained within the book of aircraft that are no l…
