Hey all,I recently started experimenting with Excell(XP)I'm using a wonderfull spreadsheet by Rob v. Leest, Wagner B. Beskow and Ilan Jonas. I have:* Coordinates of waypoints* An azimuthal projectional weather chartIs there anyone here who can tell me how i:* create a macro that plots the waypoints(via the coordinates) onto the azimuthal weather chart(TIFF file)* make the macro connect the waypoints by lines. I know this may not be very easy, but i wanna give it a go anyway. I hope someone knows enough to help me with this.CheersLenny

http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/biztech/05/07...y.ap/index.htmlThe link above is interesting. I first learned of this last year, as Congress was trying to mandate the discussed technology by law. I was so incensed I wrote Senator McCain (one of our AZ Senators), who chairs the commitee where the bill was being presented. He noted that it wouldn't see the light of day on the floor of the Senate. It seems like Microsoft is taking another tactic--coding their coming OS's around the chip they are championing. In the report, Bill Gates says that users could "opt out" of the technology, but then some software may not cooperate. Imagine a version of FS or Windows that had to be…

I was at work the other day and (instead of actually working :-roll ) was looking around Avsim, reading forums and glancing through screenshots, when this coworker of mine walks in and asks me what I'm looking at. Now, he had just got off of lunch, and playing Battlefield 1942 mind you. Yes, we have a laid back boss that lets us install games on our computers to play during lunch time.Anyway, getting back to the point... He candidly says, with the beginnings of a tear of boredom and a blank stare in his eyes, "So, whaddya do in that?" I tell him, the challenge is to fly and navigate from point A to point B, to be able to take this huge honkin' piece of aluminum (or ev…

I've always dreamed of being a pilot. However, different circunstances put me in the IT field (which I also like). But lately I found myself wondering how hard it would be (if at all possible) to switch careers at age 30...What do you guys/gals think? Is it possible to change careers and still make a decent living being a pilot? How about the job market for pilots now?RgdsMarcelo

After every Qantas Airlines flight, pilots complete a gripe sheet which conveys to the mechanics problems encountered with the aircraft during the flight that need repair or correction. The form used is a piece of paper on which the pilot completes the top part listing the problem, which the mechanics read and then respond in writing on the lower half of the form what remedial action was taken, so the pilot on the next flight of that plane can review the form before taking off. Never let it be said that ground crews and engineers lack a sense of humor. Here are some actual logged maintenance complaints and responses:P = the problem logged by the pilot, S = the solution a…

Now that I have FSFlightMax, rain and thunderstorms are displayed on the radar screen, so I can avoid those areas. But what is (in real life) the danger of rain for an aircraft? I can imagine that thunderstorms can be dangerous, but rain?Could someone make me a bit wiser?Jozef http://www.dse.nl/~joker32/pictures/signature.jpg

Ok, I did not know that Lindy was a MOH recepient. I was over at www.medalofhonor.com just browsing and saw his name. I was curious as to what military action he participated in to be awarded the MOH. I went to read his citation:LINDBERGH, CHARLES A. Rank and organization: Captain, U.S. Army Air Corps Reserve. Place and date: From New York City to Paris, France, 20-21 May 1927. Entered service at: Little Falls, Minn. Born: 4 February 1902, Detroit, Mich. G.O. No.: 5, W.D., 1928; act of Congress 14 December 1927. Citation: For displaying heroic courage and skill as a navigator, at the risk of his life, by his nonstop flight in his airplane, the Spirit of St. Louis, from…

I saw it on AOL today. AOL is in partnership with Boeing to offer their members a sort of "sneak preview", with a 360 pan-around with an explanation of such major components as wings, engines, and the flight deck. Any way, I am excited about Boeing's new plane, and I am somewhat amused by it's whale-like appearance. Post your thoughts here, if you'd like, too.

Hey guys,A while back I remember seeing a site that included a presentation (shockwave of java I think) that followed the mis-adventures of a lost GA pilot and ATC trying to talk him down. If any of you remember such a site, could you please let me know the address ?Thanks in advance.P.Z.L.

egh. Another one. I just got over a virus too :(--------------------------------------Matrix.morpheuz.D Discovered on: April 30, 2003 Matrix.morpheuz.D uses a random TCP port to connect to the IRC server of the hacker's choice. Major targets are backbone servers, with the objective of spreading through all ISPs below the backbone. Infection comes through any connection to an infected server. This virus has various forms, some of which allow the hacker to take control of system services and others capable of destroying or corrupting data. The virus utilizes a new technology called Variable Automated Coding, or VAC for short. The newly infected client machine randomly chang…

Tried posting this in the hardware forum but am suffering from lack of responses. Thought I'd try here:I know I've had a CH Products Flight Yoke, the older non-USB version with 1 throttle lever, and ProPedals since 1998. The thing has sure served me well, and has outlasted me building three machines for myself. But, alas, it's starting to show its age, the movement is jerky (ie, it hangs up at times) and I think I popped a spring in it some years back because it seems to get hung if I turn it too far to the left. For a while now I've considered getting a replacement USB version with the 3 lever throttle/mixture/prop. But looking at the prices (and the fact that I can't mi…

I have had some issues on my pc for the past couple of months. Program crashes for no reason, problems connecting and using the internet. when I installed FS 2002 pro I got to the 3rd disk and got a message saying couldn't read disk. and I noticed I had a fan slowing down when I booted my pc then speeding up to normal speed.had had these problems for a couple of months. I found out it was the power supply in my pc is going. this was causing all the issues and errors that i have been getting lately. the final proof happened when I booted my pc yesterday and today I had no video sound and windows didn't boot. after letting it run about 3 munits I shut it off and booted agai…

i started to wonder more about contrails after this weekend when i went spotting up at CLE. it was a perfectly clear early evening and using my binocluars i was able to watch quite a bit of traffic up at altitude.most of the traffic that caught my eye was because of its contrails, but there were a few (i'm sure MORE that i DIDN'T see) that had no contrails. i was able to spot them only because they were positioned perfectly so the sun shown off their fuselages. 2 were Lufthansa A340's heading SW-NE and could be seen clear as day with binoculars. one called CLE center as LH441 KIAH-EDDF at FL330. these 2 A340's had no contrails.so....why do some enroute aircraft have …

I took Horizon yesterday from Portland to Spokane and back. First time in a Q-400. Quite the impressive airplane. Full glass cockpit, at 70 people, almost twice the seating capacity of the Q-200. More headroom than Horizon's CRjs. Almost as fast. But what really got my attention were the monster 6-bladed curved propellers - boy, talk about getting down to business! This plane looks downright mean head on. We were off the ground, fully loaded in less than 3,000 feet of runway, a steep climb out for noise reasons that felt effortless and a really fast flight. The plane just motors. And, a nice foot massage along the way from the vibrations from those monster turboprops.…

Hi;I was just wondering if anyone has had problems downloading Ariane Air Shop's Boeing 737's?? I paid for two aircraft that I wanted to download, and when I was given the links to the download....the next page came up saying NOT FOUND. Its the second time I've tried to download both of them....and both times it says error, 404 or page not found.I tried emailing Ariane Studio's various times, and they take like 2 weeks to reply back....and they only reply when they want to. I have sent them many emails. They said they would get there servers fixed and that all should be fixed now....but that was a joke. It hasn't changed.Does anyone know what else I can do to download …

Hello fellow simmers,My family and I are going on a trip from the where we live in the US to the UK (london area mainly) We might also go to Paris during the Paris Air show and I was wanting some opinions on it. Is is worth it for an individual to attend the show for a day or two? and Is it better to attend midweek than at the beginning or end of the show? Finally is there a way to get to the show via trian or public transit rather that trying to rent a vehicle? (I have consulted the official website for the show so please don't tell me to go there) Thanks for any information,David Swindle
