Any Dutchies around here ? Or anybody who knows his way around EHAM, Schiphol, Amsterdam ? My inquiry particularly concerns the landing runways with a southerly wind i.e. 18L, 18C, 18R. From the ground it's not easy to see which of the 3 landing runways are used. During rush hour i often see 2 planes approaching side by side. I THINK the're on their way to 18C and 18R but it could maybe be 18L and 18C as well. Somehow i have a feeling that 18L is almost never used ( it was the first ever runway for EHAM Schiphol and now belongs to Schiphol-East more or less). Would it be possible for anyone here to more or less confirm my hunge that it is always 18C and 18R that…

Yesterday France paid a solemn tribute to one of her brave heroes from WW2, dead at 102 yo. He was also very military active after the war and died as a senior admiral. His name was Philippe De Gaulle What is really amazing is that as an aviator for the French Navy, initially trained by the Brits in the early 40’s, he flew in his life the following aircraft Spitfire Mk-V, PBY-4 Catalina, PBM-1 Mariner, HO3S-1 Dragonfly (helicopter), Aichi E13A (Japan), SBD-5 Dauntless, F6F-5 Hellcat, F4U-7 Corsair, PB4Y-2 Privateer et P2V-6 Neptune. I don’t know whether today a military pilot, AF or Navy, could have such a career flying so many different aircraft during war op…

  13. hello all, i have made a PowerPoint document about my latest sim idea! it is called FPPAS (First Person Passenger Airport Sim). it will have many features in the sim. but, this simulator is not about flying the planes, its about flying on planes! if you don't know what i mean, the Simulator is all about the experience of flying from 1950-2024! it will cover the full flight experience (check in, security, boarding, pushback (if at a gate), taxi, take off, cruise, descent, landing, deboarding, and customs!) i am really hoping someone can help me make this, but if someone can't, is there a game company that i could reach out to?

One of the advantages here in the warehouse with having virtually nothing to do is watching old TV series and movies. While gunsmoke is my favorite I had a real treat this afternoon watching and old 1941 movie titled 'Dive Bomber' starring Fred MacMurray and Errol Flynn. It was fun to watch and had some laughable moments that weren't intended to be funny. The plot of picture is the Navy is trying to find ways to fly at high altitudes. They start out by pressurizing the cabin of a Lockheed Electra and flying it to 41,000 feet on it's two reciprocatng engines. Then, at 41,000 feet in clear air it starts icing up. Great shots of the Electra's icing boots crack…

I have a question arising out of the discussion of the recent LATAM B787-9 flight LA800 incident. Attention is now focussing on a horizontal control switch on the upper back of the pilot's seat, which can be used to move the seat forwards and backwards. It has been suggested that the switch could have been accidentally activated, moving the seat forward until it pushed the control column forward to the point where the autopilot was disengaged. My question is why is this switch necessary? Surely the seat is always left in the rearward position by the previous pilot. Also, why would the seat be able to travel so far forward that it could interfere with the positi…

  22. I don't suppose there's much to say about this subject except we will see in July how well Comcast's plan works. In America this summer, 160 movie theaters will show Olympic events on their giant screens. Sort of like an oversized sports bar, except everyone is neatly seated in rows and have to pay to enter. EDIT: Alcohol is legal to serve inside movie theaters in America but wagering is not. https://www.marketwatch.com/story/amc-clinches-deal-with-nbc-to-show-live-olympics-coverage-in-theaters-141ed01f

  23. Apparently he came up with idea as more of an amusement, than a serious suggestion. " At the age of 78, in a moment of whimsy, Benjamin Franklin wrote An Economical Project, a discourse on the thrift of natural versus artificial lighting. He included several funny regulations that Paris might adopt..." https://www.webexhibits.org/daylightsaving/franklin.html
