Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

  1. Mail Online first shoots a big headline: "The pilot parachutes from the crashed plane with six other passengers on board." Then they write: "All the people who were aboard a single-engine Cessna survived" but in the article it emerges that the paxes who were... 6 paratroopers jumped first and lastly the pilot before the plane crashed. The aircraft, a Cessna U206C Super Skywagon, N29173, crashed at Butler Memorial Airport (BUM/KBUM), Butler, Missouri. The pilot and six paratroopers were not injured. The FAA reported that as the paratroopers were jumping out of the plane, a parachute opened on the tail damaging the horizontal stabilizer, cau…

  2. Video of the fire that broke out just after the Delta plane arrived at the gate at KSEA on May 6th with the evacuation of passengers from the slides and emergency exits on the wings of the plane. What seemed strange to me besides the 6 minutes that passed before the arrival of a fire brigade vehicle... after the fire had fortunately been extinguished, was the total lack of portable fire extinguishers near the plane which they could use the employees on the track. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ets-kpt7R-Q&t=214s

Maybe they are attracted from space by the shiny goods available in Earth's consumer orientated economies. Helping themselves in retail stores by hiding items under their cloaks and then just walking out of the store.

  5. BREAKING: A person has been killed after ending up in an engine of a departing KLM Cityhopper Embraer E190 on the apron at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. The airport said in a statement, "Today there was a horrible incident where a person ended up in an airplane engine. Our thoughts go out to the relatives and we care for the passengers and colleagues who witnessed this. The Royal Military Police is currently conducting an investigation." The incident took place at the pier, with a plane that was about to depart for Billund, Denmark.

  7. A Singapore Airlines 777-300 at FL370 approximately 210 miles from VTBB encountered severe turbulence that caused the death of a 73-year-old passenger from a heart attack and injured several passengers and A/V. Hello, so I like to a lot of flights out of Edwards AFB in Flight sim. I want to make my flying more elastic, so I decided to take a look at the real life procedures for the airport but was confused when looking at the noise abatement procedure. According to AirNav the procedure is as follows NOISE ABTMT PROC EFF 0400-1300Z++. 412 OG APVL RQRD FOR TGL. RWY 23L/R ALL ACFT MNTN RWY HDG TIL ABM JIPOP (EDW226013), THEN CLIMB ON HDG BTN 226 DEG CCW TO 360 DEG. NO EBND TURNS TIL PASSING EDW 245 RDL. From what I understand, it says to maintain runway heading until abeam JIPOP then climb on a heading between 226 and 360 degrees. The problem is, I am not sure wha…

Now that I am living in a retirement community I find myself withdrawing from the world more and more and being assimilated into this community more and more. I call this place 'The Warehouse' as it is a warehouse for those of us in our 60s and 70s and 80s and 90s who are really escaping back to the generations we grew up in and are ignoring the current ones. This is the perfect place to do that. I still venture out on the internet but not so much anymore. My posts are further and further apart as are my replies. A lot of it is not caring so much about what goes on in politics or the world anymore. We in the community are like pre-schoolers in a daycare cent…

***So it MUST be true The director of the George Washington University School of Medicine*** maintains that the brain of an elderly person is much more practical than is commonly believed. At this age, the interaction of the left and right hemispheres of the brain becomes harmonious, which expands our creative possibilities. That is why among people over the age of 60 you can find many personalities who have just started their creative activities. Of course, the brain is no longer as fast as it was in youth. However, it gains in flexibility. Therefore, with age, we are more likely to make the right decisions and less exposed to negative emotions. The…

VPN is NORD. internet speeds (ookla) was 342 Mbps. I never got over 370 for the last year while not on a VPN. The internet service plan is "up to 400Mbps". Speeds are down about 10% with NORDvpn. Ping delays about the same, 10% This site reviews VPNs. https://www.cnet.com/tech/services-and-software/best-vpn/ I would say that on Reddit there are complaints with Surfshark (the cheapest of the big VPN companies): https://www.reddit.com/r/surfshark/comments/13bebrb/2_years_ago_surfshark_was_1_vpn_and_now_it_is_the/ Nord is not the most expensive of the biggies (that would be Express VPN, Express is often rated the best overall on many test sites. We're currently getting hit with severe thunderstorms south of where I live. While I was watching on Windy.com I noticed it showed a tiny circle of lower rain where the news reported a tornado, then saw another a few miles to the east, also reported on the news. I just now saw another even farther to the east, not reported. This was on the radar display, which shows lightning strikes and current rainfall. I didn't know windy would display tornados, even incidentally. If you're ever in a situation where you have to keep an eye out for tornados, this might be of use. The circles only appeared on one update of the weather (about every 6 minutes) but you can see…

Probably a lot of non-gamers here have never heard of this series, but the first installment met rave reviews for its deep exploration of bathos and pathos, loss, mental illness and struggle; not to mention gritty storytelling, puzzles and horror. Nothing like my elders apparent imaginings of pixely cartoons accompanied by electronic bleeps and bloops! 🤔 The newest entry, like the first, is a state of the art (This time in Unreal engine 5.4) graphical showcase that continues the story of the first, and takes the audience on quite the journey. For those who might be curious, and even better, who might have a Gamepass subscription where this title is availabl…

  19. The Shorts on Youtube will keep playing other unrelated shorts as you scroll down, do not allow comments or information text, and they are tiny screen videos. They really are for phones, not desktop monitors. If you don't want to see any YT Shorts on your PC desktop, then just search (control F) for "Shorts". In the Shorts section click on the X on the top right. This will disable YT recommending shorts for 30 days. They will come back in a month and you can click the X again if you want.

  23. So I have been recently learning how to use Axis and Ohs. I really just wanted to learn how to use it for my specific setup as its an amazing tool that can do so many things but I was narrowly focused. I tried looking on line for videos on YouTube to learn it but didnt find the kind of videos I was looking for. Thats all behind me but in doing this I realized something and the purpose of this post. Companies are currently releasing AI agents that allow the user to text out something and have AI make a video. At the same time, theres AI agents that do text to voice. What came to me is we are closer than not to soon not having to search for premade videos but instead jus…
