Hangar Chat
This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar. Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here. Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc. Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view. We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

https://phys.org/news/2024-05-astronomers-dyson-spheres.html They've published their results in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. The research is titled "Project Hephaistos—II. Dyson sphere candidates from Gaia DR3, 2MASS, and WISE." In the last cut, 368 sources survived. Of those, 328 were rejected as blends, 29 were rejected as irregulars, and four were rejected as nebulars. That left only seven potential Dyson spheres out of about 5 million initial objects, and the researchers are confident that those seven are legitimate.

Two months to get to Mars with pulsed plasma engine. https://www.space.com/nasa-pulsed-plasma-rocket-mars-2-months-howe-industries "The Pulsed Plasma Rocket (PPR), under development by Howe Industries, is a propulsion system designed to be far more efficient than current methods of deep space propulsion, enabling the trip between Earth and the Red Planet to be made in just two months. Specifically, the rocket will have a high specific impulse or Isp, a measure of how efficiently an engine generates thrust. This technology could therefore enable astronauts and cargo to travel to and from Mars more efficiently and rapidly than existing spacecraft, accordin…

World told to brace for 'severe geomagnetic storm' today - the first in nearly 20 years https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-13402759/Severe-solar-storm-watch-alert-NOAA.html A rare and powerful solar storm may occur in outer space today which could wreak havoc on earth, officials have warned – the first in nearly 20 years if it happens. At least five streams of plasma, known as coronal mass ejections (CMEs), are heading toward Earth, prompting the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to issue a severe geomagnetic storm watch for Friday into the weekend. This is the first such alert aired since 2005 when Earth…

At the ripe old age of 40+ I thought (after nearly a decade) it's time to get that license for motorcycles. Initially the plan was to get a PPL, but when the first kid arrived back in 2014 those plans were postponed indefinitely. Can't see myself having enough time for that in quite some time yet. However.. getting a license for a two-wheeler, and some time riding off into the sunset is very much feasible at this point in my life. So, as per the title of the thread, are there any riders in here? What bikes do you own, like, want? Myself, I am a sucker for retro. I do not want one of those plastic rockets. They are uncomfortable, and are likely to get me killed. …

Hello, I have a small doubt, in controlled airports, and in light aircraft type C172, C337, Beechcraft Bravo, Beechcraft mooney, etc. At what time is authorization requested for a flight plan, whether VFR or IFR, traffic pattern, etc. I see some information on YouTube that it is done after starting the engines, but some say that it is always done before starting the engines.

Boeing 737 Max Cold and Dark startup (ASMR) (youtube.com) This channel is worth bookmarking since the author is a RW airline pilot, and I found there videos aimed at simmers / pilot wannabes just like me 🙂 Examples: Boeing 737 Max Cold and Dark startup (ASMR) (youtube.com) RNP Visual to RWY 33 in LOWS Salzburg (youtube.com) What is NAPD 1 & 2, and how do we fly it manual and in VNAV? (youtube.com) Also on Twitch: 9milesup - Twitch He's using MSFS 2020 in these interesting and rather informative Tutorial videos, looks like an unbiased youtuber, so, IMO worth the watch 🙂

I'm an MSFS user. I have not seen anything either inside or outside the MS Marketplace for some time from Carenado. Nothing either new or updated. I know they are not exactly at the top of the charts as far as aircraft developers are concerned, but I am wondering if they have folded up their tents and "left the airport (so to speak)?
