Knuffingen Airport Hamburg , in operation since 1911 is the worlds longest continously operating airport and now after 6 years of construction and 3.5 million Euro it is also the worlds largest miniature airport. Knuffingen Airport Hamburg

  2. Just thought I'd start a thread for those that may be unemployed at this time. After hearing the President's speech on jobs it made me wonder are there any here in the community that we could possibly help. It's all in who you know they say and those with the right skills could get directed in some way to the right resources. If I hear of anyone I would most certainly see what I could do. Working remotely for example especially for developers knows no country boundaries.

Hi all saw this interesting link today scary to think some pilots relying on machines to much, not like the old days of the 707 were you had more of a hands on flying. same thing is happening to simmers. http://www.nypost.com/p/news/national/auto_pilots_scary_skies_AheRGb0IfSiSp8QqGMcdPL?CMP=OTC-rss&FEEDNAME=

Can someone explain to me the general logic behind the reason why commercial aircraft these days fly higher yet slower? As my altitude increases in my iFly 73X I understand that my mach speed doesn't change, and why it's more EFFICIENT for my aircraft to fly at higher altitude, but what I don't quite understand is why does my ground speed go down? And wouldn't this decline in ground speed negatively impact commercial airlines scheduling vis a vis ETE and arrival times? Wouldn't this concern the airlines a bit more than they apparently do?? I mean, it seems that even for shorter routes commercial aircraft are climbing to FL390 AND FL410 more than they used to, at least i…

I just learned about something in an ng called a "heading reference switch" and its relation to polar navigation. Where is this switch located on the real plane? I have searched on google and can't seem to find it.

  12. Hi I was looking up photos of P-51D cockpits and I've noticed that many cockpits have an RMI (they call it a "remote compass") tucked in the top left-hand corner of the cockpit. The trouble is, I cannot find the attached VOR antenna anywhere on the aircraft--according to my research, the antenna on the tail of some P-51's is virtually an earlier form of an RWR. Does anyone know where the VOR reciever on restored P-51's are located? ok, so I'm trying to figure out what type of humor I have. I love to state the opposite of what I feel. for example, yesterday I got my tooth pulled. I'm in the dentist and when she told me I had to have my tooth pulled, I respoinded, "Joy!", "that is superb!", "Faaaaantastic!" "Thi is going to be such freakin fun"these must be spoken rather loudly and with great emphasis and like you really mean it from the heart in order to really be funny or at least I think so.. sometimes, I like to distort or really embellish the truth or tell a situation based on how it felt, rather then what really happened. for example. "The surprising thing about the whole operation was, I did…

  16. Just wondering does anybody know how the airlines handle an event like Irene? I know flights are currently being canceled going to places like New York and Boston but what about the aircraft already there? Is KJFK and KLGA cleared totally of aircraft already at the airports with a mass exodus of outgoing flights or do they ride it out? I've seen situations where airliners were tied down with hopes of the best but it would be interesting to see KJFK/KLGA totally cleared of aircraft in the real world like a default FS9 or FSX. If anybody has the time for a few shots of this unique situation by all means please post some shots. I can't imagine any of these airports (KBO…

Did anyone else experience the 5.8/5.9 magnitude earthquake on the East Coast yesterday? I was sitting at my computer reading the AVSIM forums when the earthquake struck. It came in as a rumbling sound and there's a lot of construction in my area so I thought it was all related to that. But it got louder and then the room started shaking a little and then more and more. It was the worse earthquake I had ever experienced and I now have total respect for those who live in earthquake prone areas. My house was shaking so much I thought it was going to collapse. In fact, I heard pictures and stuff falling down upstairs and I thought then the house was actually falling do…

Hey guys, I recently purchased Genie Timeline Home edition, and so far I really like it. For those that don't know it, it's a backup program with a similar operating method like Apple's time machine (being the main reason i bought it). It seems very user friendly and I'm so far quite happy. However, I know got an email from Genie about something called Tuneup Utilities 2011: a progrma that supposedly helps keeping your computer in good working order. I tend to be wary of such programs, because I rarely know what it actually is they are doing. I was wondering if anybody had ever used and if it's worth my money?

Was wondering if anyone might have some accurate insight as to why American Airlines did away with their 747 program years ago.... was it purely financial reasons based on a/c economics? due to their route development? etc... It would be easy to say a combination of all those issues, but I'm curious as to what played the major factor (there's usually a primary catalyst in most situations). Shame that, to my understanding, they never did a 744 version. Seeing photos, I think those old AA 747-100's look like some of the most gorgeous birds in the sky.... I've read the wiki profile for AAL, but it just doesn't go into as much detail as I'm craving on this topic, so any factu…

Has anyone had any contact with Nihad Alush from Simknobs? Dec' last year he posted saying he was no longer supplying parts. He had previously supplied me with two oxygen panels but in a move somehow we lost them. I asked him if he could do them again & he accepted saying he had some backorders & would do mine when ready. I had to pay him upfront several hundred $$ for the two of them. I have had very little contact with him. He last replied to me in July apologising saying he was gearing up again & bear with him. But this was already many months after paying him. I have continually emailed him asking for an update but he refuses to re…

Wow, the Unions here in Australia involved with the aviation industry just seem to get more stupid by the day! Not content with their members having among the highest wages in the industry while working at Qantas, they seem to be hellbent on stopping Qantas from achieving its full potential. Over the years, the Unions have (through industrial campaigns such as strikes) forced upon Qantas some of the highest wages and best conditions for its members in the aviation industry. Yet they now wonder incredulously why Qantas' international arm is suffering losses financially. It's simple - the Unions, in trying to get higher wages and more ridiculous perks and conditions, have p…
