Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

It aggravates me to see Pete Dowson's name misspelled as "Dawson" on the AVSIM headline for the Reader's Choice award. Not once, but twice, like the guys writing it don't really know his name. Strikes me like a guy who thinks he knows me calling me "Rob" instead of Bob. I'll bet Tim Allensworth would agree with me on this.

Ouch! I just saw this crash landing on the news, just north of Miami on the Florida Turnpike... Total hull loss, as the fuselage split at the firewall.

(CNN) -- A 65-year-old man flying from California to Hawaii was forced to ditch his plane in the Pacific Ocean on Friday night 13 miles off the coast of Hilo after running out of gas, the U.S. Coast Guard said. Fortunately he was rescued without injury. Watch the video. Cheers, - jahman.

  6. Hello, I came across this interesting item on Ebay- it is a Mode Cockpit selector panel from a 747 Classic. It was removed as the aircraft itself was scrapped. This looks like a fascinating item for any 747 fan. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Boeing-747-Aircraft-Flight-Mode-Cockpit-Selector-Panel-Grimes-75-0147-9-/230683349500?pt=Motors_Aviation_Parts_Gear&hash=item35b5cc91fc#ht_609wt_1163

Hi folks, It's a simple question: which is visually better; FEX or REX? But as simple as it is to ask I just can't seem to pin down an answer. Of course the question of which gives the better Bang for the Buck is another one that has often been answered in place of the "Which is Better" question. But the Bang for the Buck question doesn't answer which is visually better. So how about some of you guys that have one of the 2, (or both), can you give your opinion here please? If it helps, (and it may), I have GEX NA, GEX AFME, UTX USA and UTX Alaska. In addition to that I have Scenery tech's South America and Africa. And also FTX PNW and a whole lot of little add-on airstri…

Wasn't really sure where to put this, but here seems as good a place as any. Off to London working for the next three days, so if anyone PMs me (which seems to happen a fair bit) and doesn't get a reply, that'd be why and it'll not be me being ignorant (or at least no more so than usual LOL). Dunno how good the hotel's intertron connection will be, hopefully okay. Al

The fuel efficiency exceeds 400 mgp (that's four hundred miles per gallon). The twin-fuselage offers added efficiency for taking in-laws along. Cheers, - jahman.

Hello everybody. So, I've decided to join this forum, because I love planes. I'm not a pilot. I'm not even a pilot in training. In fact, I am a terrible pilot who doesn't even manage to fly without hitting "overspeed" at least once, unless I use autothrottle set below the max speed. But I still love them planes, and I still love flying them in FS9.My favourite planes are commercial airliners, the C-130 and the A-10 Thunderbolt II. Oh, and the Turboprop planes like the Dash-8. Love those sounds. I live in the general approach/takeoff area of Frankfurt Airport, and I get to see and hear planes every day and every night, all few minutes.Sometimes, I imagine I actually know wh…

When Boeing or Airbus specifies Maximum range for an airliner model, does that not include the required reserves, or is that an absolute maximum including reserves? For example Boeing claims a 3265nm range for it's 737-900ER, Is it's absolute range limit 3265nm, or is it more like 3500-3600nm inclusive of required reserves? Thanks

Hey folks, found this to be quite interesting. Look how long it takes from idle to full thrust on the real deal (alright it's a FFS, but still) in the case of an impending stall condition: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PD2pA9rsJP8(skip to 4:10) Like ten seconds! Quite impressive. It's something people get told over and over, as obviously this is also important on a go-around, but seeing how long it really takes is quite fascinating. Watch how slow it is in the lower thrust range. It literally takes forever to get it accelerated, until at some point is seems to "bite", maybe 70-80% N1 or so. Also, I often see Airbuses that call out weird altitudes. We all know the usual -…
