I was reading this article and was wondering how this guy ended up in the water for so long without a Search & Rescue. Not sure if he filed a flight plan but apparantly he did make a Mayday Call. Anyone have any other information on this story? He is lucky to be alive:http://www.stuff.co....water-for-17hrs

Ok, so you've made an emergency landing on a small lakewith Beaver, Twin Otter, Kodiak, (in this case, something with floats). Theproblem was a whole lot of smoke coming out from under the panel and it turnedout to be an electrical short that reduced your radio to nothing more than a weightfor a down rigger. The landing was a close call but you pulled it off.Unfortunately in your sudden race to find a place to put down, you flew way offyour flight plan's route to get to this remote and obscure 'pond'. Of course, the radio was useless from the first sign ofsmoke. You're somewhere in the Pacific NW, Washington State or maybe just onthe border of Canada and Washington. I…

A F-16 from the Alabama ANG overran runway 36 @ KOSH on Thursday, most likely major damage, including engine, nose gear & radar. #1 made the landing just fine #2 of 2 did not. Unknown the cause. 3 & 1/2 hours later a FJ-4 Fury did the same thing, the only flying Fury in existence. Same runway, now parked next to the F-16, according to pilot he lost brake authority half way through landing run. Both Pilots OK :-) http://www.fox6now.com/news/witi-20110728-eaa-f16-incident,0,628759.photogallery

Last week while listening to liveatc.net and tuning to the KSFO tower frequency, the following situation peaked my interest. JBU1432 was on short final for 28R or L (I truly don't recall), and radioed the Tower they needed to perform a go-around. The controller on duty was quite busy, you could tell, and asked 1432 "what's the reason for the go-around", Captain or FO replied and she didn't hear him while handling other traffic... she asked him again more formally when re-directing her attention to it, and he repeated "DUE TO AN RA, M'AAM!".... You could tell he was somewhat annoyed at having to repeat the reason (they were also probably busy handling the specifics of exec…

The EU Court of Justice has ruled that"the operator of an online market place (in this case e-bay) could be responsible for the unlawful sales on iys website of goods in breach of the rights of a trademark proprietor. even though it had not played an active role in promoting such sales, if it was aware of facts on the basis of whicj a diligent economic operator should have realised that the offers for sale were unlawful and that it failed to act propmtly to remove the data or disable access to them" Another small step in the right direction.

http://overheadbin.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/07/19/7106446-internet-rallies-around-flier-accused-of-groping-tsa-agent?GT1=43001The TSA can grope old women, send out full body scans of women in emails, let people with shoe-bombs and shotguns through, and all the while be completely rude to the travelling public, yet something happens to them and there is complete outrage. Personally, I don't buy the phony outrage and question if this incident really even happened. The TSA needs to get its stuff together. Frankly, there is an obvious lack of training, oversight, and autonomy for the actions of these people.

Hey guys,I was browsing Ars Technica when I noticed an article about Windows 8. Apparently, it was demoed during the D9 conference. I personally don't know what to think of it. To me it looks slick, but hardly useable. Is there a reason that Microsoft always completely changes stuff without seemingly making it really better than it was before? Here's the link to the article:http://arstechnica.com/microsoft/news/2011/06/microsoft-gives-the-first-official-look-of-windows-8-touch-interface.ars

Hey guys,I was wondering what back-up programs are recommended. Prefreably it's something like Apple's time machine which works without me having to do anything yet providing me with a perfectly useable backup of all I have on my computer. Windows Backups doesn't really cut it for me. It seems about as simple as the complete genome of the elephant, and I'd like to have something more "transparant". Any good, reliable back-up programs out there?

Airlines have raised fares to keep prices at the same price as they were when the taxes were in effect. Fliers May Not See Savings From FAA Shutdown has the details, but is a bit wrong, Delta has raised it's prices too (I just heard it on the local newscast a few minutes ago). I echo the sentiment of those interviewed for the story about the partial FAA shutdown and passengers told of the fare increases in the fact that with all the nickel and diming that the airlines are already doing to us, they could let passengers save those few bucks (about $30 per ticket in Atlanta) instead of pocketing the millions they are making off of them.

How does FS9 calculate indicated altitude?I found this formula:indicated_altitude = (kollsman_pressure - ambient_pressure) * pressure_gradientWhich gave 1000 ft/inhg for the pressure gradient. When I calculated the gradient using the data on the wiki for the ISA I came to 1070 ft/inhg.Is this formula good for FS9 and which gradient should I use?

I have 2 General Admission tickets and a parking ticket for this weekend's Thunder over Michigan Air Show being held at KYIP. Due to the fact that my wife and I do not take well to the heat, I am offering these tickets for free, to the first solid commitment. I would arrange to meet you somewhere public in the Detroit Metro area to give you the tickets. They are valid for either day. Please e-mail or PM me if interested.

FSPS is having a 50% off sale at simmarket. To me they sale a few "snake oil" programs. But this one sort of intrigued me. Anyone have any input?EDIT: A little bit of research has showed me it may be a little less advanced than what I'd like.

Can anyone tell me if I can add a Digital Trim Gauge to the quest kodiak panel without having to go to the expense of purchasing a full program such as fs panel studio, as Im only wanting to do this one thing, and it seems a bit expensive considering. If so, is it fairly straight forward to a novice like myself. Reason being Its frustrating placing the mouse pointer on the trim wheel only to find the readout goes after a few seconds, making it necessary to keep moving the pointer to get a readi g again.|Thanks...John
