Does anyone here have any opinions of ATP (Airline Transport Professionals) Flight Training. I need opinions other than "it's a cram course" and the like. I'm well aware of the training structure and I'm only contemplating doing my CMEL/MEI there. I've done everything Part 91 up until now and just want to bite the proverbial bullet and get it done.I doubt I'll get any responses and doubt even more anyone here has experience with them, but this is the only "aviation oriented" forum I frequent and I also value everyone's opinion here. For what it's worth they have a facility 35 minutes from my home, which is just too convenient.

Hi all!I just finished watching a youtube clip from "James May Goes to the Moon", where May is taken on a ride with Maj. Cabigas in a U-2ST up to FL700. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJoMDq4AyLc&feature=relatedThat got me thinking. I downloaded the Alphasim U-2 from simviation once it was freeware, and I am planning on making my U-2 flights as realistic as possible. What is the average climb rate of the U-2? During takeoff, it seems to be climbing at a 60 degree angle, but later levels out. May includes shots of the U-2S's PFD, so I would assume that the PFD would include climb rate. What values would I have to set in the Alphasim U-2 autopilot (AKA default Lear aut…

At JFK, an A380 collided with the tail of a CRJ, which had apparently just parked from a flight, tossing it around. Luckily no one was hurt! I wouldn't want to have been on that CRJ though!!http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2011/04/12/dnt.plane.clipped.runway.cnn?hpt=T2Edit: Opps! Didn't realize there was already a thread on this, sorry! Mods feel free to delete!!

The twin O-540 - 260HP, on the BN-2 are quite thirty and not the best in term of efficiency with its 2 blades propellers. so a couple of questions :- If you install a couple of 200hp DeltaHawk Jet-a engine, plus an efficient prop from Hartzell, will the plane be able to keep the same performance as the 6-cylinders nearly 9 litres from ground to 10K feet ? And keep the same max gross weight ?- Would it be possible to adapt Wipline Amphibious Floats on the Britten-Norman ?- Without floats, are tundra tires adaptable on this plane ?- What are the possible modification to upgrade the max TOGW ?- I heard that the most efficient propeller is a single blade with a counterweight,…

Hi everybody.I was always wondering, why modern airliner still rely only on pitot tubes for airspeed ?Since you can receive data from anywhere and aviation weather services are accurate, why it's not possible to switch on an EFIS from differential pressure speed to GPS speed ?You take your position, heading and GS minus minute to minute weather information = True air speed. From TAS you can get CAS and so IAS.Then you would to put your plane in a safe margin between Vs and Vh.BenjaminPS : sorry if I used the wrong terms.By "Vs" I meant stall speed and "Vh" max speed.

Hello,I am doing a term paper for a graduate level transportation planning class. The class really doesn't cover aviation so that is the general topic for my paper. I'll be going in to forecasting, legal issues, land use issues, governance, inter-modal connectivity, NEPA and CAA conformity... I'll be doing a paper and a presentation.Anyway, since most of the class knows very little about aviation, I need to give them some background information - something like the "anatomy of an airport" and definition of terms. Of course, I could do most of it off the top of my head but that doesn't really work in grad school. I need a good resource - something that is peer reviewed if …

Hello,I'm asking this on behalf of SunSkyJet. They are looking for people to help with the development of their freeware DTW. As expected, they need airside photos and pics from places that the general public do not have access to.I suggested that they post a request on the Airliners.net forums. My reasoning was that a lot of airline employees frequent their forums, their forums get a lot of traffic and there are FS enthusiasts on them. I figured that there would be a preponderance of individuals that could get photos and also understand why they are needed rather than having to explain it to airport officials. I'm not a member anymore and neither is Shez.Is there anyone …

Hey folks,I am looking for the following: I'd like to learn a few geographical features (like cities) and their relative positions to each other. So I'd need some sort of a map service (like Google Maps) that allows me to turn on and off a bunch of details, like cities/city names, major roads, rivers and the like. I'd like one map that only depicts let's say rivers, major roads (e. g. highways) and maybe cities (all without labels). I'd like to be able to print this and fill it out. Then I'd like the same thing *with* all the labels, for checking.Google Maps pretty much has it all, but I can't see a way to turn off labels how I want it, and I doubt there is any way. I don…

Hi,I flew IFR from KSYR to KSCH in the default DC-3, with panel, sound, and FDE mods by douglasdc3.com. I made an autopilot-assisted ILS approach into rwy 4. That got me thinking. Did the old Gooney Birds ever use ILS? Or was it VOR approaches only? And are VOR approaches the same as localizer-only approaches?

Here' s an interesting story about a United A320 yesterday. The video at the top of the page has some edited cockpit audio on top KMSY images.Unfortunately, he was forced to land on the short runway due to equipment on the longer one. It looks like he really could have used that extra length.United A320 at KMSY

HiI've seen many pictures of Spitfires and I've noticed something odd about the canopies. If you look closely there's a separate wraparound window behind the headrest of the Spitfire canopy. What was it for? Radio equipment? Cameras?LONG URL (Window is behind Malcom Hood)http://www.google.co...=1t:429,r:4,s:0http://www.google.co...s:0&tx=72&ty=41I don't know why the aircraft is pink on this one.
