There are so many ways to "play" Flight Simulator. You can "play" the pilot and just fly and not worry about the fininacial end of things. or try to be an FBO owner, etc...my question is, suppose I want to simulate my own air charter startup, does that go hand in hand with owning my own FBO? or not neccesarly? As long as I'm leasing my planes can't I rent hanger space somewhere from another FBO or from the airport itself? or is that not realistic?thanksBS

...At least was unresponsive to 2 aircraft trying to land. The planes landed anyway (Safely) treating it as an uncontrolled airport approach. So far the only action taken was the controller was suspended, pending investigation. My question is shouldn't those pilots, have diverted to Dulles, rather than land on there own? I know smaller GA airports can be uncontrolled, but I would think larger commercial airports would not allow this. According to the weather map at the time, it was raining as well.http://www.cnn.com/2011/US/03/23/washington.planes.controllers/index.html?hpt=T2

Hi,I will get my APAD Flytouch 3 in about 3 days. As I fly with FS9.1 quite often, I thought, maybe there are some nice apps for Android 2.2 I can use. Now, does anyone here know of some nice apps? Like airspace charts or airport charts etc.?

I just started flying a plane with a 530w GPS after a long time training in very simple Cessnas with Nav-Com radios linked to VOR guages. I honestly didn't think it could get any better. I even bought myself a 696 for my own personal flying, which blew my mind when I started using it.And then this came along...http://static.avsim.net/forum/uploads/monthly_03_2011/post-162457-0-55187100-1301023117_thumb.jpgThis is the latest and greatest from Garmin, touch screen GPS with weather and terrain overlays. Amazing!Check out some of the videos at the garmin website and on the web, it's like using an Iphone. When will the RXP boys make one of these for the sim crowd?

A letter Air Canada sent to Gary Bettman regarding hockey injuries. I thought this was a bit funny:http://www.cbc.ca/news/pdf/AC-NHL-Letter-March-09-2011.PDFGary Bettman responded by saying, "If they decide that they need to do other things with their sponsorship dollars, that's their prerogative, just like it's the prerogative of our clubs that fly Air Canada to make other arrangements if they don't think Air Canada is giving them the appropriate level of service."Looks like the Air Canada Centre may get a new name. I wonder if it will become the Porter Airline Centre or WestJet Centre.

I have been using Ultimate Defrag (free version) for a very long time now, and it works wonders for my computer. It is fast, intuitive, and it has many options for defragmenting your hard drive. I highly recommend this program because honestly, it leaves all other programs in the dust, and so does the free version. So far the only differences I've found between the payware and freeware version, is the payware version has a newer user interface and some of the options are in different places, but the both do the same thing and they do it very well.I highly recommend watching this video (Wait... before you go and watch 1 minute out of 9 minutes, think again and watch the wh…

Does anyone have any good suggestions for aviation reading material? I'm looking for anecdotal, biographical or fictional stuff, not text books. In my small youth I borrowed Biggles (don't laugh) from my old man's bookshelf and have just finished David Fiddimore's 'Tuesday's War', which didn't really have enough flying or ground-ops in it. The only other aviation literature I've read is Bob Mason's 'Chickenhawk' documenting his year in Vietnam with the 1st Cav. (Best book I've read in a while). What else is out there, as I'm stuck for a good read? Any walk of life, and any nationality, just as long as it's about flying.D

HiI was planning on making a FS2004 video as a salute on Memorial Day. There's just one problem: I don't know how to make a FS movie yet :PThe only solid thing I have laid down at this point is that it will use Gary Herbert's B-17G with an addon panel (17g.zip on Avsim) and a B-17 soundpack (B17sndpk.zip, also found on Avsim). I was planning on making it a memorial hop between two influential AAF bases in the US. Either that or I could use the default DC-3 with panel and mods from douglasdc3.com What US Army airbases were the most successful/famous during WWII (e.g. bases that the Mighty 8th, RAF/AAF bases)? Does anybody know of any free online game-recording software th…

Here's a question someone might be able to answer. I was re-reading Marshall Harrison's A Lonely Kind of War (which if you don't know it, is his memoir about flying an OV-10 Bronco as a Forward Air Controller in Vietnam). In the book, Harrison recounts many instances of directing flights of jet fighter/bombers onto targets over the jungles and plains of South Vietnam, but there's a detail which puzzles me in many of these accounts. As far as I was aware, fighter and fighter/bomber flights are usually made up from multiples of an element of two aircraft, with each element having an element lead and a wingman. so, either two, or four, or six, or eight aircraft etc.But in A …

I built my computer in 2008 to run FSX. Since then I have added many add on's such as GEX, REX,and UTX. It works great. I am a happy simmer. My question is this. I have a friend that does not have the resourses to to build or buy a new system so he is flying with a system I gave him back in 2008. He is coming to see me in Fl. from Mn. to play some golf and escape the cold and snow in a week. If he would like to buy my current system with all the upgrades I have added to FSX, would I still be able to go to where I purchased my downloads of GEX, REX and UTX without having to pay again, or should I sell my system and build my new system to run FSX or perhaps MS Flight, and p…

Ever since AVSIM revised this site, then went back to the old style a few days ago, I get a strange warning message each time i load a page from the Forum. It happens on the load of each page. Here is the message:"This page is accessing information that is not under its control. This poses a security risk. Do you want to continue?" The choice is YES, or NO. I click on NO and everything works just fine. Are any of you also getting this warning? I never got it on any site before, and AVSIM is the only site showing this warning. I am running Windows 7 64B.Thanks.
