Hello all!Easy question for those in the know:When a B-747 is parked at the ramp with the cockpit cold and dark, i.e. no hydraulic pressure: Do ground crew have to insert pins into the landing gear to avoid the gear collapsing, or does the gear have enough of an overlock to not need the pins in the first place?Cheers,- jahman.

Hi Everyone. Recently, while watching a bunch of Twin otter videos online, I keep hearing this recurring sound, like a whine, and it has been bugging me ever since to figure out what it is. The link for the video is here, and the sounds are at :08, :13, and :16 seconds. It's been in a number of other Twin Otter videos like shutdowns and startups and takeoffs, and I can't find any info on it anywhere! I was just hoping a Twin Otter expert or somebody familiar with it's systems would know what causes the sound. Thanks everyone!

We all know Magnetic North shifts yearly, but if this story is correct, it looks like it's shifting at a much greater rate then normal 40 miles a year towards Russia. At this rate, this can have drastic implications for aviation. (Among other things) An example of which in this story is a Tampa runway had to be closed until Jan 13, until NAV charts could be updated, and runway and taxi signs and marking are changed.http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_thelookout/20110107/sc_yblog_thelookout/florida-temporarily-closes-runway-due-to-magnetic-pole-shifting

Not too sure where to post this, but being that the same wholes true for all AvSim forums including FSX, I guess this is about as good as any other, particularly thanks to exposure. For some reason today, activating anything on the AvSim forums is extremely slow for me on this first day of 2011. For example in order to get to the point of posting this thread (i.e. Selecting forums, then selecting the FSX Forum, then selecting to make this post took about five minutes. Normally this has required only about 5 seconds. When I select "Post New Topic" to add this thread will work but will take another two minutes or so to be entered. All selections in the AvSim Library are norm…

Hi,the big work is at flight prep, takeoff 'till cruise level and approach prep, approach and final approach/landing 'till at the gate. But what do Pilots do when there is not much to do then to check the instruments, work the radio and checking the weather on route for little route changes? What do they do on a flight from EDDF to KBOS or EDDF to KLAX? So many hours without anything happening?

Anybody else using it? $9.99 a month, well worth it in my opinion, ported all of my FSX scenery into P3d with success, seems much smoother than FSX, I see it as FSX SP3, Lockheed Martin team have aspirations for this, gotta say i am not too bothered about flight now as I have have my new FSX which will evolve, even ASE hooks up and injects weatherThumbs up for me

Hi peoples i am looking for a bit of info from any real world pilots out there that have experience using a Narco ID825, that is the VOR instrument with the CDI needle as well as the glide slope needed that is usually paired with the Narco Mk12D TSO NAV COM radio. (picture of the instrument in question below) What im wonting to know is weather the NAV flag is always static and where and how the to and from flags are displayed. this is so i can properly simulate the gauges in FS as i only have pictures and no working experience with the gauge :( Any help on this would be greatly appreciatedhave funPaul

Well guys, im just about to shut down my PC for the last time in 2010 and I just want to thank you all for one hell of a few months on the forums/game. For some of us it has been good, but for others it could of been better.I was at a mates house today, and his dad was on the phone saying, "yeah mate, the best of 2010 will be the worst of 2011." lets hope this true, and hopefully you know what that means :)You all have a very happy new years eve, and heres to 2011! :DSigning off for 2010,Aidan Sandri.

Hi, in lots of readme´s from downloaded files here on avsim I read, that uploading to Fsplanet.com isn´t allowed. Why not? Is this just because they do not like Fsplanet.com or is there something else?

Christmas day is a special day for me. It's a day I remember the diversity we have here at Avsim--not just those that celebrate Christmas, but also those who act like they do regardless of the type of faith they have, 365 days a year. I see this diversity by the so many choose their words, display acts of kindness towards other members in the forums, and generally just make these forums a better place to be.Peace to you all, and have a happy and blessed New Year, especially to the volunteers that keep these forums going.John
