HiRecently I have taken an interest in the DC-3. I was looking up modern DC-3 photos online when I noticed that many modern DC-3s have a forked antenna mounted on the cabin roof. Is this the VOR/ILS antenna? What is the long wire leading up to the tail for?To clarify, here's a pic of N97H on approach. All credit goes to Airliners.net for the great photo.Could somebody please explain in plain English what all the antennae do? And is this example (N97H) representative of all modern DC-3s? Are modern DC-3s IFR equipped?

Hello everyone this is my first post on here sorry if it seems a little "in too deep" but I need a little help. I've been playing simulators for as long as I can remember now and quite simply been amazed at the amazing details that have been implemented into them. As well as 3rd party software. I remember using freetrack and making my own head tracking device for the ARMA and FS series which was great. and my first addon I bought ever was recently the Ifly 737NG which is amazing to say the least it amazes me how such a complex addon works so well on my fairly low performance pc I am running the fs9 version so I guess thats cheating a little haha. But the real reason Im he…

HiI read somewhere that the U-2 Dragon Lady steers using its tailwheel. The thing is, it only steers 6 degrees in either direction. Why is that? To avoid putting too much stress on the pogos? To make the U-2 pilot's life harder? Why not make the tailwheel turn 180 degrees instead? It only widens the U-2's already large turning radius.

HiIn photos I've seen of old planes (particularly seaplanes) such as the SO3C Seamew and the OS2U Kingfisher, the observer/radio operator (that guy in the back) station always has what looks to be an ADF loop antenna in the cockpit! Case in point:OS2U: http://upload.wikime...flight_1942.jpgSO3C: http://upload.wikime...with_floats.jpgThey might be hard to see b/c of the canopy glazing, but they are indeed there. They are just in front of the radio operator/observer/gunner. Much clearer view of OS2U back seat, complete with mystery antenna: http://www.google.co...=1t:429,r:3,s:0 http://navsource.org/archives/01/057/015768z.jpghttp://navsource.org/archives/01/057/015768z.jpg…

  11. Hi guys!I´m going to N.Y. (spending the last two days in W.D.C.) for the next week together with my wife and her parents. (If the darn Icelandic volcanoes let us... )As it is my wife´s birthday during our stay, her parents were planning on giving her (and us :( ) a nice helicopter tour around the great city. Now I was asked to look around for the best possible tour, and if the price is a bit higher, it´s no problem. We were in N.Y. three years ago, but didn´t take a tour.We wish that the tour should cover as much of Manhattan (and perhaps some other parts) as possible. Just going south of it (around the Statue of Liberty) is not enough. :( So, does anyone have a tip f…

I have liked a few FS related FB pages but most of them have few updates. I would love to have FS as a part of my daily FB use BUT, and this is a big BUT, i don't want to link my AVSIM posts to my FB account. I like to keep things here a little anonymous. Is there a big FB hub for FS that I am missing? The only AVSIM page I have know of was the one set up after the crash.

Hello everyone. In the interest of maybe catching a few Tapatalk users here on the Hangar Chat forum, I posted here. I'm sorry to the Mods if this isn't a good forum to use.I have Tapatalk for Android and have been trying to log in to these forums on my user name. I can view the forum fine as a guest, but when I try to log in I become stuck at the "processing" load screen. Anyone have any ideas?I believe it may come down to a problem on the forum's side. Out of date plug in, perhaps?

Thought I'd share an article on the in's and outs of Magnetic Deviation. Note most of this stuff is from the 1700's!See: Magnetic Deviation: Comprehension, Compensation and ComputationIn the following extracts, note the term hard iron refers to iron with magnetic hysteresis (magnetic field is retained after initial magnetizing field is turned off), as in a ship's hull, vs. soft iron without magnetic hysteresis (magnetic field is not retained after initial magnetizing field is turned off), as in the ferrite core of a transformer. The sections I found most interesting are:1. Other Sources of Magnetic Deviation 2. Compensating for Magnetic Deviation Cheers,- jahman.

  20. I went to WA a few weeks ago and I had the great opportunity to visit the Boeing factory. During the tour we could see a 747-8F which is Cathay's fifth and in the 787/777 section I saw the thirty-eighth 777 for them. I would like to know which reg. numbers will be asigned to these aircraft, just for wallpaper purposes :D

Hey folks, one thing that got me thinking - why are the labels on the EFIS panel realized as a display? I am talking about the CSTR - WPT - VORD - NDB - AIRPORT labels and the line below. They can be seen here, next to the QNH window. Those being a display suggests there could be something else. What would that be? I can only see the bearing pointers obviously change (which makes quite sense) - on the Cpt side you see ADF1 - 'some pointer', while the F/O has two pointer indications. Not sure what they mean either, but I understand once you press the corresponding p/b they might cycle thru the pointers.Any ideas?

I'm hoping someone can answer this because it has been an annoyance for me for a while now. Here's what happens. Everyonce in a while I will be responding to a post and accidentally drag or bump my hand on the key board and it will either delete the last word, words, or in some cases the better part of a paragraph that I just typed. In one instance, I had quoted a post and had written out a few paragraphs on instructions about something, then I accidentally hit a certain key combo by accident and it deleted everything I had just written. I was so steemed that I didn't even bother to write the whole response as I had already spent about 10 minutes on it.I'm not sure if its …
