Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

HiIf taildraggers are so hard to control, why were taildraggers so popular for so many aircraft for so long (e.g. from the birth of flight to 1945)? Why stick with a design that is so much harder to control? Was there a practical reason?

  3. I was talking to a pilot about 10 yrs ago and he used to fly a Baron around IFR and he told me he was never asked by ATC to fly a DP/STAR.If I'm trying to simulate an air taxi/charter ops. Would you always fly the DP/STAR if you filed IFR. I'm talking like planes like B58, C208, Duke, C340, BN2, DHC6 etcI imagine you would always when flying something like a JS41? or not necessarily?

Not looking to stir up debate about a very important recent raid, but I found some intriguing info on what may possibly be a new stealth helicopter used by the U.S. Armed forces. I think many aviation buffs would appreciate this info:http://news.yahoo.com/s/time/20110504/us_time/httpnewsfeedtimecom20110504couldthebinladenraidhaverevealedasecretnewhelicopterxidrssfullnationyahoo

  6. An American Airlines 777-200 had a small fire in an onboard electrical system and made an emergency landing. I arrived at the airport in time to take a few pictures of the first passengers coming off to disembark in wait for a replacement aircraft. The following video was made by a local blogger that caught some of the action.http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=wWdWQsvmikg#at=18Anyway, nothing much exciting usually happens around here, so it stirred up a bit of local interest.Kind regards,

I have some questions regarding AI traffic that I'm trying to work out. I'm using FS2004 with AISeparation software, AFCAD, AITM.1) While AISeparation does a good job of separating arrivals there is still the problem of some aircraft flying approach at slower speeds than others, i.e. B738 overtaking MD80. I had seen a posting on another forum about how some simmers were using "FS microsoft flight dynamics settings" for ALL their AI aircraft, resulting in consistent spacing down the final approach courses. Does anyone know what these settings are and how they would be applied to a variety of AI aircraft (Aardvark, PAI, TFS, AIM,etc)? I believe this would allow a more effic…

I am English born and bred but left there at 26 in 1980 and rarely looked back, although I severely miss little things like proper pavements, iced buns and Marmite, and I have been fortunate to have lived in and visited some great places. I am currently in Brasil.Browsing these forums this morning I was reminded of some "new" English that has been severely irritating me for some time: for example, "My friend and myself ....... ".When I was a kid we were taught to say "My friend and I ....", and that "myself" was something to do with "reflexive" or something like that: "I did it myself" or "I can only blame myself". Even though I understand that language in general is a…

Sorry for being so far off-topic, I didn't see any board even remotely appropriate & can't PM, so I just went to the board you frequent most...I noticed one of your interests is competitive sailing, can you PM me & tell me a little about your rig? I've wanted to hit some regattas, but the timing never works out. I'm just a cat sailor, nothing fancy...OK, now that that's over, my feelings won't get hurt if this post is deleted, locked or whatever.

  23. This is directed at the Avsim staff.I was wondering if there is a way that the members tagged with the Commercial title can be setup automatically or required to place the company they represent, in whatever fashion it is, in their signature box or in their profile. I know that some commercial members already have that info in their signature box, but I see a lot of posts by other commercial members with no info on who they are representing.I often wonder who it is they are with when they make comments or recommendations on 3rd party content when there is no way to know who they are affiliated with. Or, in some cases based on replies I have read from some commercial membe…

E5d141.tmp is affecting my FS9 graphics. I've downloaded and installed some aircraft to my FS9. After I did this I get E5d141.tmp starting up at the same time as my FS9.My graphics in FS9 have been corrupted, there are no tenures on the aircraft and scenery in some sections of the simulator. Also, FS9 freezes when I want to change aircraft or log out. My pc is not connected to the internet. I go to the library to download the aircrafts. The aircraft was the only thing I installed and uninstall-ed manually. My FSX graphics are ok so far. I did a search on my PC and found the E5d141.tmp and I deleted it but it keeps coming back when I start FS9. Can anyone recommen…
