Esteemed RW B-747-400 Pilots out there, after many hours flying the PMDG version of your aircraft, I have a few Fuel System questions for you:1. How long does it take to fuel a bone-dry B-747-400 up to the gills?2. When reaching the "Tank-to-Engine" point during cruise, why must the inboard crossfeed valves remain open? I would have thought either all or none ought to remain open or closed, so there must be a reason I'm missing.3. Shoudn't the fuel in the stabilizer be burned last (or at least well into the cruise) to keep a rearward CG to turn stabilizer negative lift into positive lift to reduce the fuel burn?4. That center square in the middle of the cabin right betwe…

Hi,I've focused pretty much on civil aviation simulators (FS9 / FSX) over the past decade, but I'm now thinking of getting a new combat simulator to try.Problem is, I really don't know what's good nowadays.I shortly tried Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. but that's way too much of a game. The last combat sim I flew with was Janes F/A-18, which I considered to be very good.I have been thinking about DCS A-10, but I'm not sure if this is what I'm looking for.Anyone any suggestions or comments? Thanks.

Hello!Checking the specs for the mighty Pratt & Whitney J-58 turbo-ramjet engine that powered the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird. Most of what I've read, including Brian Shul's "Sled Driver: Flying the World's Fastest Jet" state that: Well, this sounds wrong to me asit seems exactly the opposite should be happening, i.e. the as Mach number increases the spikes ought to move forward:1. Dynamic Pressure Increases with Mach NumberAs Mach number increases, dynamic pressure increases (like with the pitot), so more air will be entering the engine, thus the spikes need to move forward to maintain airflow constant. If too much air entered the engine, the engine would flame-out m…

  5. This has been bothering me for some time and I am finally going to ask the question? My wife and I use our hot tub regularly (yes we/I am lucky), and during clear nights we always enjoy looking skyward and ID'ing the constellations and watching satelites whiz overhead. We are also on a flight path (Duncan, BC) for aircraft making approaches to Vancouver and Victoria airports, albeit, still higher elevation. We have noticed sometimes that occasionally we see what appears to be aircraft that temporarily turn on their landing lights (very bright) for a short couple of seconds and then turn them out.Can someone who is a pilot please explain what this might be, or what is happ…

Yes, folks, World's cheapest and shortest ever jet flight: $4 (not a typo!) for 34 miles (not a typo!) from Burbank, CA to Long Beach, CA.See: Article/VideoA CNN producer on the flight raced another producer in a car... and lost! (1h:42m in the jet vs. 0h:51m for the car), as the expected "Carmaggeddon" turned into a "Carmaheaven".Cheers,- jahman.

ok, I like to keep my fs as real as I know how to get itbut it just seems I'm wasting a lot of paper printing my charts from airnav, etcok, I always print the airport diagram and then all of the ILS approaches, and min. dep. proceduresbut my question is what about gps approaches or vor and ndb as well? do I need all of those? or ???want to keep it real but don't want to print and waste tons of paper eitherideas?I've thought about going electronic but I don't like soaking up fs resources when flying and have always like the feel of real charts

  9. Sitting here watching tv and waiting for some backups to process...A commercial came on, you know the kind where an elderly woman is having the time of her life playing bridge with a bunch of other over enthusiastic seniors-- and the husband is out golfing and is all smiles? I was thinking that when I get (if) to retire, that no offense, but playing out my days golfing or shuffle boarding isn't for me. I also don't relish the thought of watching reruns of Friends on TV. So I am proposing...That we all pool our money, and build a master retirement community for flight simmers and retired pilots. I envision a clubhouse with a full bar, cigar humidor, a comfy lounge and…

can anyone tell me why I cannot get the voice from Rob Barendregt s pushback gauge to work. I have read and complied with all the instructions and have beefed up the ground vehicles and have checked the sound settings, but still when iniating the tug pushback listen to silence while pushing back. The sound must be working because I can listen to and speak back toair traffic control.

I don't know where to post this - but the 737NGX is the hottest thread:I am so disappointed that the FANCON in Washington DC was cancelled. I already made my hotel reservations and convinced the wife to make a vacation out of it. I was about register for it soon. Are you sure there wasn't lots f people waiting for a later date to register? I would have put a last chance reminder saying a low turn out may cancel this. These conferences with the vendors are so good to see the latest products, hardware and addons. Live demos leave little questions unanswered.I hope you re-consider this cancellation and I REALLY hope you don't give up on it for EVER as you atated. Maybe th…

The aircraft was at 36,000 feet flying out of Phoenix for Sacramento when a 59-inch-long gash opened nine inches wide in the top of the cabin, with a loud bang. The Southwest pilots immediately declared an emergency and began a descent to 10,000 feet. As the pilots organized, they formulated a plan to return to Phoenix, but as t…

Everything still works after the backup. I was wondering what this extra information is and has anyone been affected by it?JimCYWG

I saw this youtube video today while I was cruising on a flight from LAX to Honolulu today, watching my subscriptions. It was about this person named Michael Combs and he was talking about how to live your dreams and not pushing back the opportunity to fly or even other things like buying that corvette you always wanted or buying that Harley bike you've been putting off. This guy started flying after he had 2 heart attacks in 2003 and he realized he couldn't wait any longer (it's 2011 now though, guess he's living a lot longer than he expected! ) and now has flown over 49 states in a Cessna Skycatcher on a tour bringing the aircraft to different airports to share aviation…

Hello, my name is Alex Kolb and I represent the AGVA group, which has brought you Air-Glaciers Virtual. Members of the AGVA development group and myself are looking to bring a new virtual airline to Switzerland, simulating European-based flight operations. As it had such a great impact on how we developed Air-Glaciers Virtual, we've decided once again to ask the community their opinion on certain aspects of our VA-in-progress.If you would please answer these questions, it would be very much appreciated.#1: How do you feel about an airline that would only operate one aircraft series (the A319 and A320)? Does it offer too limited a selection, or could it provide for a st…

  21. teamfirstly, i hope i have chosen the appropriate forum & secondly that I explain enough to ask the following.at many of the bigger / busier airports, the transition from STAR to FAF (for NPA or ILS) is by ATC vectoring - eg the LENDY STAR @ KJFK.now for this, ATC has a range of "normal but flexible" profiles - depending on the runway/s in use & traffic sequencing, nearby airports - it uses that allow the aircraft to be postioned / track & descend to the FAF within its capabilities (a 3 degree FPA).so my question. can anyone point me to notes / charts that tells me what in the real world a pilot can expect his vectoring pattern to be (for example) to transitio…
