Talk of a workhorse... http://news.delta.com/index.php?s=43&item=2216 Do you remember your first flight in a DC-9 ? Mine happened relatively late. Probably in the early 1980s if I remember well (I had flown in a bunch of jet and prop liners in the 60s and 70s - and even in a Connie in 1958 as a baby - but never had a chance to fly the DC-9 before). December is always the most expensive time of year for me as a flight simmer - lots of great stuff always gets released and my bank balance takes a hammering. Over the festive period I've treated myself to: FTX Ireland FTX Vector Milviz Bell 407 Classics Hangar Fw190D/Ta152H REX4 Wings Over Flanders Fields + Skin Pack RAM upgrade for my main PC. Earlier in the month I splurged on SkyMaxx Pro as well as the LES Saab 340 and FF 757 for XP10. I don't want to add up what all this lot came to, but it's got to be a good few hundred... lucky for me the Pound Sterling is quite strong at the moment! I see that PC Aviator's holiday sale ends tomorrow, so I…

As an amazing year in flight simulation is drawing to a close, I was reflecting on what this year has brought (besides making my wallet much, much lighter  ) and what the new year might bring. Which scared me a bit, since I doubt my wife will let me spend much on my hobby once she;s seen how much I've spent since Black Friday. So as such, here are my New Years Resolutions: the 'Simulated' version, that is! 1. Discover the areas I already have. I always have this pressing urge upon seeing the release of amazing looking airports or scenery to say to myself 'Oh, I need to have that, I'll love to fly there.' However, then I end up warming up the credit card an…

A very interesting ipad simulator turned essentially toward heavies and navigation. Here a few reflections and wishes, if ever realizable. - Map view with a minimalist map instead of the blackened backgound so that it is possible to easyly pinpoint a destination or just know where the plane is. This map would be best with towns, rivers, lakes, isles and mountain contours. - Possibility to save a flight plan for further usage. - For now, only a departure or arrival on an airport is possible. It would be fine if the plane could be placed every where on the map with height, speed and bearing. - More realistic and adapted terrain + 3D. I downloaded caribbean isles and here …

Well after one, ok, maaaybe two trips too many to the Christmas party punchbowl, I got to thinkin'... The Ten Commandments of AVSIM 1. AVSIM is a forum, not a help desk 2. Pilot's reaction after looking at the most attractive woman on the beach: - "positive rate, gear up!" Reaction during leaving money in the bank: - "30... 20... 10... retard, retard!" In the shopping: - "Before paying checklist. Meat, check... vegetables, check... cookies, as required... money, down and three green. Before paying checklist completed." When driving a car and the fuel is low: - "Minimums... continue." My own jokes. Probably these are not that funny. :-) So share some pilot/aviation jokes! Sent from my U8815 using Tapatalk 2

A man is alone in an airport lounge. A beautiful woman walks in and sit down at the table next to him. He decides because she's wearing a uniform, she's probably an off-duty flight attendant. So he decides to have a go at picking her up by identifying the airline she flies for, thereby impressing her greatly. He leans across to her and says the British Airways motto : 'To Fly. To Serve'? The woman looks at him blankly He sits back and thinks up another line. He leans forward again and delivers the Air France motto 'Winning the hearts of the world'? Again she just stares at him with a slightly puzzled look on her face. Undeterred, he tries again, this time sayin…

Star Alliance Virtual has opened its doors to the flight simulation community after two months in planning, and endless hours creating the organization and its infrastructure! Initially founded in October 2013, Star Alliance Virtual brings new ideas and operations to the flight simulation community, such as the ability to fly without needing an ACARS system, but you also won't have to submit a manual flight report. The Star Alliance Virtual organization has very limited sets of regulations and rules, unlike other virtual organizations, and the staff and pilot team understand this is a hobby, and there are many different types of flight simulator users out there, t…

So it is now 8:30 pm on Christmas Eve, it is currently 18 degrees Celsius outside and raining horizontally because winds are gusting up to 120 km/h in a big big storm, So with that I declare that Christmas has now begun....we may not be getting a white Christmas but I dare not go outside in that storm either. I think I will light a fire on my wood stove instead. Merry Christmas everyone from New Zealand :zeland-flag: Here is a shot of the storm with my Christmas lights on:

So hello, this is my first post. I have always known how to cross the Atlantic and stuff with NATs. However, I do not understand pacific flying, at first i thought there would be pacific tracks - i searched and guess what? Nothing. So then i thought maybe the routes gave me the coordinates themselves however when i generated a route form KLAX to YMML, it took me through Russia. So, what I'm asking is this, are there any pacific tracks? if so, then please link the website that you get them from. If there are no pacific tracks, then please give me a guide on crossing the pacific. Many Thanks. Lewis.

Looking back at what's been over this last year I can't help but think that it's been an absolutely fantastic one for flight simulation enthusiasts. Where FSX is concerned there has been some truly excellent stuff released this year - from the Majestic Dash 8, to the Real Air Duke V2, to the Accu Sim C172, to the Sibwings An-2 and the Aerosoft Airbus Extended and Twin Otter Extended. I also believe someone released a 777 a few months ago? In terms of scenery the Orbx juggernaut is rumbling on seeing the release this year of what many to believe their best work yet - South Alaska, as well as FTX Global which together with FTX Global Vector - due for release before C…

I'm sure this has been asked before but i am curious what others do during medium or long haul flights at real time. I watch episodes of Air Crash Investigation on YouTube but I have seen just about every episode made including the Seconds from Disaster Series. I'm kind of hoping someone else may post what they are doing which might also interest me for awhile. I don't use time acceleration as it's forbidden by my VA. I have also watched most of the WWII in color series as well as many episodes of Discovery channel "Wings" and "Sea Wings" What am I missing?

Some of you may have seen my other post in the PMDG General Forum "Lets hear it from those hands on Pilots" well it came to this. "I started this topic really wondering about flying in the sim. It may have got off topic because I do have a passion for what is going on in the RW with all of the Automation and not enough of the seat of the pants flying. When I got my PPL they switched instructors about half way through. My second instructor was a retired C-141 Captain and man could I tell the difference. He could flip that Tomahawk around on his thumb. Spin training with him was a whole new experience. I just think there should be something in the regs (weather permitt…
