I personally find it interesting which post and subjects get the most attention on a flight sim forum. Post something about an actually aviation subject like advanced navigation, aircraft systems, how to fly approaches, routes, or other actual proper procedures and yawn the response seems to be minimal. Post something about hardware and somewhat more responses. Post about addons - ok we are starting to ramp up now as there and many different opinions and people stand up for their favorite product. How about flight sim tweaking - yeap going to get more post and probably a bit of friction thrown in for good measure. But the winner is if people want to talk about …

http://ekstrabladet.dk/nyheder/samfund/article2167579.ece Everyone survived. Im just thinking, why would the pilots have parachutes on them? Was it just lucky they did? Or how did they else survive? Btw. The article is in Danish. But the video is the interesting part. =P

On the Gold coast. Any one having spent time there may have seen the daily flights by the moth doing gentle aerobatics over the beach. Doesn't look good. Hope they survived http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/2013/12/16/14/19/plane-crashes-into-sea-off-brisbane

Does it bother anyone else when topic tiles are completely meaningless? I can't help but feel I may be missing good information because I just don't feel like reading topics with meaningless topic titles. And worse yet is when I see the same topic weeks later and because the title is so vague I stupidly read it again....

It's amazing how many major news stories are coming out of Wichita since AVSIM had the FANCON in May 2013. We've had the 747 pilot who landed at the wrong airport in Wichita and now the attempted terrorist attack to blow up the whole Mid-Continent airport while a lot of passengers were in the terminal - http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/12/14/son-accused-wichita-airport-bomb-plotter-calls-him-really-happy-guy-report-says/. I just saw this article that informs of of the last passenger flight for the DC-10. She sure is a beauty. Maiden voyage was taken in 1971. She will be missed. http://www.cnn.com/2013/12/05/travel/dc-10-last-flight/index.html?hpt=hp_c3

I just read this interesting article which releases some information the NTSB has learned so far in it's investigation into the July 6th crash landing of a Asiana 777-300 at KSFO. http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/pilot-who-crashed-at-sfo-worried-about-landing/2013/12/11/26aa659c-62cc-11e3-af0d-4bb80d704888_story.html One big takeaway for me is the value of ample simulator time. The training pilot at fault admits he was uncomfortable with his level of experience with the 777's autoflight systems, and the article specifically brings attention to the pilot's confusion about the supposed ability of the autothrottle to "wake" itself from the hold function if t…

Russian investigators are searching the Federal Aviation Agency to determine whether some pilots received fake licenses. The investigation was sparked by a plane crash near the Russian city of Kazan last month that killed 50 people. Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin said in a statement Friday that investigators believe some pilots working for Russian airlines received “fake commercial licenses” in centers certified by the aviation agency. http://rt.com/news/fake-pilot-licenses-russia-844/

Latest official missive on air pollution is part of effort to cut chronic flight delays that have led to passenger revolts. Chinese authorities have told pilots who fly to Beijing they must be qualified to land their aircraft in the low visibility bought about by smog – the latest missive related to the capital's heavy air pollution, which the government this week lauded as a beneficial shield against missile attacks. From 1 January pilots flying from the country's 10 busiest airports into the Chinese capital must be qualified to use an instrument landing system on days when smog reduces visibility to around 400 metres (1,315 feet), the official China Daily said, ci…

What is the 3 degrees referenced from? Is it 3 degrees from the ground (horizontal)? I was doing some calcs before and this would mean that at a distance of 4nm from the threshold you'd be expected to be at 810ft which is roughly half that of what most ILS charts i have seen require for that distance (4nm is 24,300ft, 3 degrees in a ratio of 30 horizontal units to 1 vertical unit, 24,300/30 = 810ft). Anyone shed any light?

So I picked up Tower!2012 during the holiday and some add-on airports. I was controlling at San Francisco International today and inbound traffic was starting to get heavy. Runways 28R and 28L were both being used for landings. I got docked -1000 points today because I let two airplanes land together on parallel runways. What I want to know from any professional ATC/Tower Controllers or those who know, isn't it okay for aircraft to land in a parallel runway configuration at the same time or is there always a strict separation regardless? Also, on the same controlling day, I had a Southwest and Delta jet run into each other on the taxi way in the lower ramp a…

Anyone else having a problems when using Selective Quote option under IE11 ... works fine under Chrome, just not in IE11? Not that I'm surprised, Microsoft product bug count has seriously increased as of late in just about all their products and updates (including Visual Studio series). Or maybe IE11 works in Windows 8.1 just not Windows 7 -- dooh! Rob

By and large, the flight sim community seems to be interested in new products. It's only natural that they generate the anticipation and the buzz. But there are a few older products that shouldn't be forgotten. Everyone would probably agree that the Level D 767 is a classic that has held up well over the years. I submit that Coolsky's Super 80 Pro also deserves a place among those few add-ons that are just as exciting today as the day they came out. At first glance, this rendition of the long, lean flying machine from McDonnell Douglas has a few strikes against it. The virtual cockpit is functional, rather than nice-looking. Although the flight instrument panel doesn'…
