Here's a couple of pics from their gallery: I'd add a link to the announcement but pasting URLs in forums is near impossible. Another reason why Facebook has become so popular.

Hi, Not sure where to put it, but I thought some here -- particularly those who like the complexity of commercial airliner simulations and flight planning -- might be interested in a new strategy title out from one of my favorite tactical/strategic wargames publishers, Matrix Games: http://matrixgames.com/products/483/details/Command:.Modern.Air.Naval.Operations This is an absolutely comprehensive, highly detailed, real-time simulation of full-scale coordinated ground/air ops. It's absolutely fantastic, and one of those "play for an hour, take a lifetime to master" titles. There's a deep connection between serious flight simulation and serious military st…

I will start the topic off: I am lucky to have my own sim-room. The system has been a build up of over 5 years FSXing and just about happy now: Main set up: Main screen's views: Second computer networked using Aviasoft EFB and internet Sky Vectors for plates: Networked screen showing Electronic Flight Bag and Sky Vectors Dulles departure plate: To keep up with it all, I'm still wanting..

I don't know where to post this - is the AVSIM.SU site related to our AVSIM site? It looks somewhat similar. I am trying to download an FSX file of Sheremetyevo International Airport www.avsimrus.com/files.phtml?action=download&id=39031 I have found its web page and if I click its download button, the web page just renews itself. I have tried a variety of tricks and I have registered, but I am not getting it to download. I cannot go on their forum because I do not speak Russian! In fact I have tried a variety of files on their site but I am getting the same lack of response. Anyone tried this site? I found it through the "freeware scenery" s…

We are very happy to announce that we have brought a new Video Gallery online. This Gallery replaces the one that we had to take down earlier this year. It adds new features and a greater ease of use, and most importantly, reliability and low loads on our server. All registered members can add video links to the Gallery. Videos (MP3's) can be added from your own storage system (Drop Box, etc.), or you can link to all of the popular video hosting sites, such as YouTube, Vimeo, Google, etc. Here is a complete list: The far left column regards thumbnails and indicates whether the system will automatically generate a thumbnail image or not. If no, you need to provide…

Dear AVSIM guru's I purchase payware from different company's, and just about all of them want me to open an account with them, which I am reluctant to do, for reasons of privacy. My question is this: is there any way of purchasing the product without jumping through these hoops?, for all I want to do is, much like a coffee or car, buy the product and go. Most of these products are of the downloadable kind (if that's relevant), Many thanks in advance, Autolycus

For the past several days, every time I go to my bookmark for the AVSIM front page, I end up at the forums main page. I even tried to go in manually and through a Google search and I still cannot come up with the front page. Has the site been re-designed and no longer has the daily news and file? Terry

I'm going to embark upon a much-needed rant. After following a couple of other great discussions on this forum: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/425998-when-was-your-golden-age-in-this-hobby/?view=getnewpost http://forum.avsim.net/topic/425839-why-are-flight-simmers-so-rude-to-each-other/ ...and a litany of other similar threads, it becomes evident that this hobby has a rampant infection - and ground zero begins with payware vendors. I've had the [mis]fortune of watching this community change and [d]evolve over the past fifteen or so years. As many have rightly pointed out in the "golden age" thread, our hobby *has* changed for the better - and the worst. We have…

All those late night meeting in the Mach One Conference Room and a lot of strong coffee has paid off for Cessna. They officially have the title restored to the 750. It will be tough for Gulfstream to do another one-upsmanship but not impossible. FAA verifies Cessna Citation X speed WICHITA, Kan., Oct 31, 2013 – Cessna Aircraft Company, a Textron Inc. (NYSE:TXT) company, recently concluded all high-speed certification flights with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on the new Citation X. This marks the completion of all testing requirements needed to validate the aircraft’s unmatched maximum operating speed of Mach 0.935 (617 mph, 536 ktas), solidifying the…

When you look at the whole period you have been enjoying the FS hobby, when would you say is your Golden Age? ....the time when things seemed most exciting, happy and enjoyable for you within the hobby? For me, this would be 2004-2006, with FS9 and specifically, the Dreamfleet developments. Lou Betti and his team creating some jaw droppingly beautiful general aviation aircraft (particularly the Archer III and Dakota), all based on aircraft that Lou knew of personally. ......... and they flew fantastically!!! If I was to choose one FDE that I would rate higher than all others in the 15 years I have been enjoying this hobby, it would be the Dreamfleet PA28…

Way to go Joshua Howard! You successfully helped to kill off one of the most historic and well recognized titles in all of the gaming universe, and certainly the least misogynistic game ever, and you are now pandering to 14 year old boys with T&A content! Congratulations. http://www.polygon.com/2013/10/8/4815826/crytek-warfaces-sexualized-female-skins-were-designed-from-regional

Since I was a kid I loved playing space sim games like elite, more the exploration and trading side of things. The X series has been around for a while, pretty much like a modern day elite, you can start out in a little freighter trading and building up an empire or just become a pirate or smuggler hauling narcotics and illegal wares between systems. Well the latest version is a few months away and they have outdone themselves again, full virtual cockpit and trackir support, the universe to trade in is huge, and the visuals are breathtaking. This is the kind of space/trading sim I have always dreamed off! I fear I may end up single once this hits the shelves!, …

Hi, I was just wondering, do many people on Avsim own Facebook pages about aviation, such as humour or plane spotting? I know a few people who have made spotting groups and aircraft humour pages. I have one, called "YBBN Aviation Photography" (Basically spotting photos from my local airport, Brisbane International). Please share the name of your page here if you have one!

A couple of years ago I bought Condor Gliding sim for a few quid from Amazone and I was impressed by how realistic the physics felt in this sim. Granted the stock scenery is a bit naff..but with some add-on freeware scenery it looks much better. Online gliding / addon alps scenery Any virtual gliding fans out there? What do you fly?

Flight Sim Conference 2014 Can someone recommend a good flight-sim conference to attend in 2014? I know about the VATSIM’s Global Conference to be held in Vienna, Austria from 9 – 11 May 2014 (I am not a VATSIM user - I use IVAO) Also i know about the fall 2014 Flight Simulator event to be in the Aviodrome situated at Lelystad Airport, the Netherlands. Any others? maybe in the US? Something like the Aerosoft conference held in 2012? Will AVSIM have a conference?

I only seem to fly the P-38 and Bombardier as they have a virtual cockpit. I think I have the P-38 mastered but I am struggling to land the bombardier. I am using a apporach speed of ~150kts with full flap and using a mix of throttle and spolier to ensure a round-out close to the threshold and I am flaring at around 20ft. I fly taildraggers in the real world and so I am concious of over flaring. As soon as the aircraft comes close to the runaway, it seems to experiene loads of ground effect (it not only floats but gains height whilst bleeding speed and so it stalls). Is it an error in my technique that is causing this? Do I need to deploy spoilers in the flare to co…

Get to that point where you wonder what to do? ye I still need to mug up on the J41, learn to program the FMC better etc etc. Here's a suggestion for a new and interesting activity: Go back to doing non precision approaches such as VOR DME. Its actually very interesting and a good test of skills. Use something slow like the A2A 172 or the Twin Otter for example. Get the charts you need for these approaches (for the UK) here: http://www.nats-uk.ead-it.com/public/index.php%3Foption=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=6&Itemid=13.html
