Mr. Austin Meyer, creator of X-Plane, is going to be one happy person. I see that the House of Representatives put away their differences for as change and are going to put a stop to patent trolling. Finally some good out of Washington DC. This practice of patent trolling needed to be stopped. jime

Hello Avsim Members I have been away for a long while. I continued to Fly my sim (FSX) but since August this year I have been taking lessons. I am at 41.4 Hours now and am scheduling my CheckRide for PPL in two weeks. So Excited (and aprehensive)! My instructor is an Active Duty Naval Aviator (Rank of Commander) He is currently doing shore duty as Commanding Officer of Local Navy Individual Augmentee Center Training. To keep flying he has been a CFI here at our local airport. He spent 10 years training Naval Aviators at Pensecola. Being an Ex-navy Guy It has been great being instructed by someone I used to have to salute . He still uses terms like "wave off" instead …

I don't come here often unless I see something thoughtful that touches on what we do in these forums--having open discussions vs. collecting data on each other and sifting thru it for judgement. I like to call this the "Forgive and Forget" forum because I can't remember 99 pct. of the things that got me upset in the first place, which is why I like hanging out in the screenshot forum now. But one thing makes me upset--intrusiveness, when search engines intrude too far, or well meaning governments that mine sites like ours looking for shadows. Or 'bots in the sky peering down at us like we've seen in post apocalyptic movies. I think half the time we experience slowdown…

I found this video posted in the European Truck Simulator 2 forums, but since it is aviation related I immediately thought to share it here. Remember the Volvo commercial from several weeks ago featuring the (real) Van Damme performing his trademark 'split?' Well, here is the (not real) Chuck Norris version... Greetings from Chuck (The epic Christmas split)

I'm serious. I come here every day and hope to see friendly conversations amongst people who share a love for a hobby. Instead, what I find (every day, mind you) are arrogant individuals who have decided that they are better than everyone else and therefore decide to flaunt it in front of the crowd. What I'm trying to say is; I see WAY too many shmucks in this community. This, obviously, does not extend to everyone. The vast majority of people are friendly and helping, but those bad apples are still a problem that needs to be addressed. We are an incredibly small community, so why try to destroy someone who wants to join in the hobby? By doing so, all you do is aliena…

For those of you following the merger of American Airlines and US Airways, this has been an exciting year. Along the way, AA rolled out a new controversial livery and there had been much discussion since about which one people prefer. It looks like Doug Parker, the new CEO of the combined carrier, is letting the employees have the final say: http://www.dallasnews.com/business/airline-industry/20131216-new-american-airlines-boss-to-let-employees-decide-on-airplane-paint-job.ece I was always curious about why the previous American management had authorized the new paint scheme when the merger was not even announced or approved, because if they now decide to keep …

Just so everyone knows, and doesn't start speculating... I installed a mod that required a system reboot at 1520 today. Everything is fine and the short 503 service outage is now over.

This is one of the most addictive things I've ever done. This past year and a half, I've been doing things very well and have made pretty crazy gains that I never thought possible. I'm a monster now compared to how I was when I started taking this more seriously a year and half ago. I worked out off and on from 2003-2010. At this time I didn't know anything about bodybuilding diet, proper rest periods, bulking, cutting, etc. I got more toned and gained a small bit of mass during this time. Not impressive and I stopped until 2012. In 2012, I was on youtube and watched a Ronnie Coleman video that showed his day to day life. It inspired me to start again. I sp…

Hello Simmers! I have a question opposite to one posted a while ago here. I'm curious as to why airlines do use the 777-200LR, considering that the routes that they do utilize them on could be reached by the 200ER with relative ease. If it would be more expensive to purchase the LR, why do airlines like Emirates and Delta use it (I realize that it would make sense for Delta on the route to FAOR from KATL, though there's many others that they do use it on)? Several airlines have purchased the model, though are not utilizing them on Ultra-Long Haul routes. Just curious - not that I'm complaining! The 200LR is an amazing aircraft and those engines are nothing to be w…

It's strange actually. 1. It's a great time to be an FSX'er. FSX is still going strong with many new releases and improvements to terrain, aircraft, weather and airports. 2. It's a great time to be P3D'er. V2.0 is out with more robust memory management, future PMDG support and a seemingly bright future. 3. It's a great time to be an X-Plane'er. Great new releases like Skymaxx, Saab 340 and others. Future is looking bright here also. So what's going on? Why is everyone still sniping each other over their platform of choice? I've been guilty of it too, but not anymore. We have 3 great options for flight simming and never have the options been better. I'm…

but it might not be Australia’s Not that long ago, Qantas was considered the world’s most-profitable airline. Now the 93-year-old Australian carrier, famed for its unblemished safety record, is struggling to stay in the air without help from its government. http://qz.com/155123/qantas-will-be-saved-by-the-government-but-it-might-not-be-australia/#!

It's a winding tale, told by a 90-year-old RAF veteran, of the experiences, the difficulties, the fun and the long challenge to become a fighter pilot in 1943... a great story, told first-hand in an amusing and anecdotal fashion in a 243-page series of forum posts. A great read. Enjoy! pj
