Nice that the chairman/chairwomen of the respective appropriations committees in both the U. S. House and Senate got together to sponsor this important aspect of the recently passed 1.1 trillion dollar funding bill. And to make it even more interesting, these sponsors are from each respective political party. (note: I did not say "respected"!) This just add credence to the notion that the shutdowns threatened last year by the executive branch were just to inflict emotional pain in a political sense during last years budget fight. $140 million out of 1.1 Trillion? What a ruse that was! An article in my local Easton, Maryland, newspaper presented some figures to show …

Among professional aviators, there's a well-worn saying: Flying is simply hours of boredom punctuated by moments of stark terror. But I don't recall too many periods of boredom during my 30-year career with Lockheed, most of which was spent as a test pilot. By far, the most memorable flight occurred on Jan. 25, 1966. http://www.barthworks.com/aviation/sr71breakup.htm

Hello Simmers/All! Sorry if this has already been discussed here, but JAL has recently added a 787 on their usual route from RJAA to CYVR. This is going to be the first scheduled 787 service to Vancouver, and it's scheduled to begin on the 3rd of February, 2014, to be followed by China Southern's 787 service from Guangzhou coming later. The route is going to be introduced by means of a gradual system, with frequency increasing as the year progresses. News link is below. Safe flying! -Derek http://www.yvr.ca/en/Blog/Posts/Boeing_787_on_Final_Approach_to_YVR.aspx

Don't know if this question has been asked already: Are there real life commercial pilots out there that are rated in both Boeing and Airbus planes? If so, do they fly a Boeing one day and then an Airbus another day (such as for a company like United that has both Boeing and Airbus equipment)? Is this even allowed by the company? I do this with flight sim (PMDG 737NGX or PMDG 777 and Airbus Extended X), and I easily miss critical details that I should (or should not) be doing with one plane versus the other Elmo

New user so forgive me if this subject has been covered before. When flying a g1000 equiped aircraft and you place the attitude indicator on the shown horizon and hold it there results in a decent, not level flight. What am i doing wrong? Thanks. Steve

As everyone here is so knowledgeable, I decided to get advice before buying. The array of material out there is staggering and confusing. First, where to buy? The only store I know is Flight1.com. How does that sound? Two, My default FSX install is a little lonely.I want everything that could be included in traffic. Now I hear there are two major commercial releases, but if I remember, there are ways to do the exact same thing for free. I also thought it was more expandable that way too. Any help or suggestions would be great! Thanks, Steve

Hi there, just a question: are all flights forced to use the NAT's? Does an airline have to fly a NAT to TNCM? What's for (imaginary) flights from europe to hawaii? Does europe->west coast flights have to use nat's? Or are these tracks only for europe->east coast flights?

Greetings Everyone, My wife has a client who is well on his way to opening a true Flight Simulator museum at the Boundary Bay Airport, in Delta BC, Canada. I just thought I would pass along the info she gave to me tonight as they are starting to look for Founding Members. I am sure as it has to do with simulators, it would be of interest to many on Avsim. Cheers, Brendan Keith NAMOFS.pdf

I just love everything about the big ones. There is so much activity on so many levels, but I haven't seen an airport add-on that even comes close to the energy of a semi-busy airport. Are there any plans for something that has the following: Real people boarding planes, or waiting outside to board one. Lots of trucks, and machines doing real things (not randomly moving from left to right). For example, food trucks going to planes that are about to move in an hour or so. Just curious if there has been really any attempt to model the traffic and energy of a real airport, or if this is beyond our ability right now.

Hi there, as some of you know AeroLogic is a 50:50 joint venture of Lufthansa Cargo and DHL. Now my question is: why? Both of them are cargo only operators. If they would only "share" some cargo can't they use their current fleet? Also LH Cargo or DHL could order B777F for themselve? So why have they initiated this joint venture? Both are german operators. I have 3 ideas: 1. EDDP is situated within eastern germany (former german democratic republic) which has lower wages even today. So this could be a point like germanwings does it: low priced flights with an high degree of capacity utilisation by keeping costs (i.e. for personal) pretty low. 2. They want a …

Does anyone remember Schoolhouse Rock? It was an American interstitial programming series of animated musical/educational short films (and later, videos) that aired during the Saturday morning children's programming on the U.S. television network ABC. The topics covered included grammar, science, economics, history, mathematics, and civics. The last episodes were produced in 2009. These vids I'm posting are part of a new series called Symphony of Science based on the same concept, using autotune and speches from scientists to produce a musical primer on the sciences. I love these things, and just wanted to share. ^_^

I found this superb clip last night. Imagine a full-blown flight simulator with this level of graphics -and containing every airport in the world -plus bird-strikes and 'real-world' road traffic etc etc. We have the technology to make such a simulator nowadays (but it would cost big money). But GTA5 at least gives us a taste of what's possible nowadays, and in the future. GTA -Runway take-off http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAzD4...re=c4-overview GTA 'Traffic in motion' (The video gets extremely good after 1:20) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEZQ5QItlPI ..and all this running on 7-year-old PS3 techology and a little gamepad controller (which produces awkward vie…

Hello everyone, I just re-discovered my dusty boxed edition of Microsoft FSX Gold, with some expansion pack included. I remember playing this a long time ago, but got frustrated with my graphic card at the time; the poor thing couldn't handle it. I heard that Microsoft gave up on Flight Simulator years ago, and I am happy to see there is still a small community of people using it. I have a few questions I thought someone could answer. 1. I now have a much more powerful computer with an Nvidia GTX 760 graphics card. What kind of performance can I expect? 2. I have Windows 8. Am I in for a world of hurt when I install it? 3. Did most people jump to X-Pla…
