This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar. Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here. Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc. Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view. I know there is a dedicated forum here at AVSIM for the Flight Gear flight simulator, but I guess most simmers seldom visit it, and some may even not be aware of it's existence, so, I decided to post here my thoughts about the upcoming version of Flight Gear, version 3, of which we can already experiment an RC, now on version 4. Flight Gear is an old open source initiative, started back in the times of fs5, and grew to a platform that I am tempted to consider probably the most serious one availabe today for flight simulation if the users are willing to contribute with their own work, adding to the already extensive list of features, ranging from different flight dynam…

Hi guys! I just wanted to see if anyone here knows if there are any full cockpit simulators of classic propliners existing anywhere, preferably open for the public in a museum or so. It would be interesting to know about for future travels! Västerås Aviation museum here in Sweden has a very impressive CV-440 simulator (amongst others) which I really recommend if you ever get the chance. http://www.flygmuseum.com/simulatorer/metropolitan

Hi  Something I often think about is the difference between modern glass cockpits (737 NG or A320 for example) vs. the old, analogue cockpits (737-200 or A300). I can only judge from a flight-simulator-point of view. But I always think that modern cockpits aren't really more comfortable and less stressful. In an old cockpit, which included a flight engineer, you didn't have to worry about all the systems stuff as a pilot. That was part of the flight engineer, who mostly had more detailed knowledge about the plane than some pilots have today. You just had to calculate the flight performance yourself (without a FMC), insert waypoints into the INS, and that's it. …

What the hell is wrong with the installation routines of Internet Explorer 10 and 11? Windows has tried to install these two countless times on my PC (after being downloaded as automatic updates), but it has failed every time. I have tried to download and install them separately, but these install attempts have also failed. I have Windows 7 SP1 64bit installed, so I am ready for the install procedures, but God knows what I have to do to get the stupid things installed. If there are other components that I need, why doesn't the Windows Update system automatically tell me what I need?? Has anyone else had problems like this? Do I need a TOP SECRET AREA 51 security clear…

We are thinking about changing the image posting rules. Please read and provide us your opinion. First, a great contributor to the AVSIM processor load is resizing and display of hosted images; that is, for images that are saved and displayed by our system here. Images hosted elsewhere are also resized to in order to fit our rules of display size. Second, the availability of free storage space on the Internet has become easily accessible to everyone. Examples are Dropbox, Google drive, personal sites that allow you to host images (like Google's Picasa albums, etc.). Here is what we are considering: AVSIM's screenshot forum becomes "hosted elsewhere" on…

Is it not time to move towards a new sim that can accommodate these excellent add ons and allow us to use them to their maximum potential? FSX is fundamentally flawed and must be a nightmare to work with. 4GB of VAS? 32 bits? Limited core functionality? This is 2014, FSX is holding us back! Is it not time to move to a solid platform that allows continuous growth/progression without the need to tweak, fiddle and compromise? We have the hardware for it, we have the add ons for it we just don't have the platform. X-plane is 64 bit and takes advantage of todays hardware, not to mention it being a far more realistic flight model. As soon as PMDG jump ship to X-plane there wi…

The suggestion made in the "Why are simmers.... rude" topic that we should consider opening a "Newbie" forum is a good one and has merit. I cringe every time I hear someone report that a new user left because the were bullied, told rudely "RTFM", et al... So, we are thinking about this and here is what I was considering: Name: Members New to Flight Simulation Purpose: Provide a forum for members new to flight simulation where all questions are welcome and responses are provided by knowledgeable contributors to our hobby who want to see you succeed in this hobby. Location: TBD. I am thinking of opening an entire category all of its own. Any suggestions? The FBO…

Does anybody knows if it is possible to change font and colour of info line which is in upper left corner ? I was just watching various videos, and noticing that for every super-rig I see that runs things smoothly, there are probably 10 other vids from "normal" people with hitches, glitches and frame rates that make me twitch a bit  and would probably drive me crazy. (or at least into an upgrade frenzy) And of course not everyone here is running a super rig. In fact I suspect most probably are not! I just wonder what the majority would consider the lowest frame rate (guest starring the famous twins, stutter and lag) they could possibly tolerate for how they use their various sims without going insane? I wont post any videos demonstrating what i'm saying, cause …

Its been announced that this fall the Write amendment expires so Southwest will fly to 15 new destinations from Love field. So come on developers and give us a decent KDAL addon! And while your at it, how about a nice detailed KLGA. I will be glad when Flightbeam completes KDEN and gets that one out.
