Why does this satiric narration about missile guidance systems bring to mind some of the "talking head experts" who've been crawling out to the woodwork these past few days? :LMAO: Ah, the supreme eloquence of "techno-babble!"

Trying to ascertain what typical user experience is on this as I'm seeing 11-13 seconds at this site pretty much only, and I have very fast internet by US standards, pinging avsim is only ~100ms. Other sites for me are a 1-4 second affair. The problem comes in that every single new page load is 11-13 seconds, and so becomes a deterrent. Hopefully a new RAID array or something already planned hopefully will make this poll moot, but in case not please respond if you don't mind. Thanks! Noel

http://news.yahoo.com/flight-simulators-used-enthusiasts-worldwide-014652612--finance.html Sorry if this has been mentioned before, I've been inactive lately, I'm in Vegas at the moment. In here the AP recognizes that flight simulators (like FSX) are used by people worldwide. It also recognizes (incorrectly) the $80 addon for the 777 that disappeared. This is incorrect because the PMDG add-on is the 777-200LR and costs $90. Either way, it was nice to see AVSIM in the news today!

Been thinking similarly. I've no idea what is or is not economically and/or technically feasible, but to totally lose an aircraft and hundreds of people like this in 2014 boggles my mind. There MUST be a better way to keep track of a modern jetliner, even if it now requires 'tombstone technology' going forward.

First... if someone tells you that a RAID system never fails, tell them they don't have a clue as to what they are talking about. I have it on good authority that they can, and do. Were we attacked? No, the system shutdown was not due to any activity to shut our forums down. We had indications that a disk was unstable; much of what you have seen in 503 errors we now attribute to that and what follows in this story. The "disk" finally did fail last week sometime after 3:40 a.m. on Thursday morning. The whole system crashed. That’s not supposed to happen in a RAID array. The system should continue to operate with a failed disk, or depending upon configuration, mult…

I am talking about the lost B777 from Malaysian Airliners. They are searching for about 12 days. Really? 12 days for a lost airplane without finding any evidence? We have 2014 .We have nowadays the most advanced surveillance technology. I was suprised when i heard that the pilot of the B777 maybe is a suspect because he was using flight simulator.Really, Microsoft Flight Simulator X like us like many other real pilots do. Tell your opinion about....

As many of you know, I usually recommend everyone download and run AppCrashView in the event of a FSX crash or BlueScreenView if you encounter a Blue Screen crash. Now the developer of these products has released a collection of 181 utilities all in one package that you can place on your computer. It includes AppCrashView and BlueScreenView. Here are some of the utilities in this package: Password Recovery - shows most of your passwords in case you forgot. Desktop Utilities Outlook/Office Utilities Programmer Tools Disk Utilities System Utilities Internet Related Utilities Web Browser Tools Network Monitoring Tools and many more. One thing I like in th…

I just got the urge to get model aircrafts 1/200 size for now.. so I ordered them on ebay. I am paying somewhere in the $20-$45 range for these. I saw a really good 747 Lufthansa model but it was close to $125. The first one arrived. Its a 747 El Al ..its a snap on light plastic version. Its very nice..except since its a table top model, it has no wheels. I see some others have wheels as well. I have ordered some 777 and a 737 and an MD80. I am looking for 747s (Singapore Airlines and Lufthansa, my fav two liveries for the PMDG 747s) and smaller aircrafts (prefer mostly US liveries for now). I am also looking for GA aircrafts that go with the 1/200 sizing.…

This is really annoying to me. Again, the LEGAL paying customer is the one hurt by DRM.... *sigh* I had some issues with my PC in the last few months which ended up in a few BIOS resets and or changes. Some of my FSX addons don't like this and ask me to reactivate their products. I'm not going to name names but there are a few different companies which do this. Did I mention it's annoying? One company I apparently have to get a new code because I can't even use their addon. With another company all I had to do was re-enter my information and it worked. Does this bother anyone else? I think BIOS changes /etc shouldn't be a factor because the people wh…

I didn't find a similar topic, so here we go: What add-ons are you waiting to buy and why do you want them? Good way to discover addons, ready or in the making! For me: PMDG 777 For being the best. I fly for VAC and I'm waiting to be promoted to widebody pilot to buy it. Milviz KingAir 350i Because I have a love for both modern avionics and turboprops, and it looks amazing. QualityWings 787 Because I love the 787 and can't wait for a good rendition of it. NextLevel A380 Because it's so big and so impressive - I'd love to fly it! Plus, these guys seem to do a really good job. Anyone who will do a great YYZ Because it's time.

Hi Guys I only have a rudimentary understanding of real world procedures so hopefully someone more in the know can help me out. I fly the NGX and A320 in FSX and am quite competent in flying an airliner from A to B using the FMC and then performing an ILS approach into my destination by using LOC/APPR modes. I normally disengage the AP at around 200ft and then flare myself just to make it seem like I'm actually doing something  I've been watching more and more real world videos on YouTube where it seems that in reality, the flight crew disable the AP a lot earlier in the approach (maybe 1000ft AGL) and hand fly from there. So my question is why they…

So, 2 days after the cycle 1402 came out, I get a message from Navigraph telling me that I shared my copy of the 1402 cycle, and that they suspended my account and kept my money (1401-1413 subscription). Since I didn't share it and quite frankly don't even know how, I was surprised. I replied to them, and they replied back that since they have a digital watermark on the files, they know it's mine. Well, the hunt was on. A lot of back-and-forth with my ISP ensued, and I dug through my computer for hours trying to find what the heck had happened. After 12 days, after at least 6 hours on the phone, reading through countless forums and some tech-savvy friends, I figur…

This didn't get a response on the W8 page, so I'll try it here ----- I just got a Windows update message reminding me that support for WXP is about to end. My current *flying * computer is W7, but this *internet* pc is XP. What if I do nothing? What are the risks? If I really must abandon XP should I get W7 or W8.1 for internet usage. FSX will never be installed so that's not a concern. Thanks! Bruce

hello, i know whatever i intend here is not something new, since the evolution of flight simming is taking over a new face and i feel it ensued the phase of reality with end number of products that help us attain what we desire.. sceneries ,aircrafts , tools..softwares for planning flights and weather.. u name it and theres a product there to give u the immersible feeling into reality. yesterday i was progressing with my flight plan and coming into landing when suddenly i faced some fuel issues and aircraft landed just before the threshold ... and the message appeared crash! YUP ! i was thinking if there is any company who would be interested in actually coming o…

Is it my imagination, or is it because I am watching a replay of Formula One practice from Melborne? It seems over the past two hours that response time and page loads here have started to speed up. Not lightening fast, but with over 700 users online my times this evening seem to be about half of what they were before the site failure with an approx equal number of users online. Much faster than what I experienced this afternoon. Edit: Well, upon clicking Post I got the dreadful Server Unavailable Error and see that I have a double post. Would an administrator please remove the duplicate? Thanks.

Just something I bumped into while looking for interesting things on the web. The pictures are ginormous! (Up to about 400megs) So obviously I wont post one. But anyone interested can take a look. I had fun zooming down trying to resolve them to individual pixels. :Hypnotized: Kinda like being a kid at the pond.... with a microscope. Take a look!! http://www.naturalearthdata.com/downloads/10m-raster-data/10m-cross-blend-hypso/

Something I would like to see whilst the game is still developing is the ability to start in different places ie. at a certain altitude or pick a spot on the map kind of thing. I usually select a final approach as I don't have a lot of time to create longer flight plans and would like to maybe start a descent from a higher altitude to practise my approaches. Though I dislike xplane app, it is a nice feature that they have. This would keep me very occupied whilst the app is still being developed. Gruff

We are now fairly confident in understanding why we were getting 503 errors and which were driving everyone nuts over the last 3 months or so. We originally attributed the 503's to an architecture problem that had to do with they way we communicate with our MySQL database (which is where all the forum information is stored). We now know that it was something else. I am not an I.T. guy, but will try to explain this in terms I do understand. In a RAID array of disks, if one disk gets corrupted, the corruption propagates to other disks in the array over time. This happens because RAID arrays are designed to replicate data between drives. If a single disk fails due to its…
