If I was that guy that just came off the escalator in this video, I would go out and buy a lottery ticket after this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KI-NfzLqi0

I noticed Flightbeam removed kden from the unannounced project tab on their product page. I wonder if they have ceased working on it or are they about to release it as I have been waiting for this one for a while. I am about to just go ahead and order the Blueprint version as I want kden for a Southwest midcontinent stop.

At 21:00 UK time, Channel 4 is showing a documentary on the 77-year passenger who landed a plane in the dark last October in North Lincolnshire after the pilot fell ill, never ever having flown a plane before. Do not know if any others outside the UK will be able to watch this, but nevertheless, it is an alert to watch what should be quite absorbing.

Shortly after noon today, we replaced the final faulty drive in our RAID array. That brings to a total of four new drives that have been replaced in our forum server. We have two addition drives to add as expansion, but we will be doing that in the next month. What you should expect now; over the next day or so, the RAID array will be doing its thing and stabilizing. In the meantime you may see system "lags", "jitters" etc. Also, keep an eye on the number of people online at any given point in terms of judging system performance over the coming weekend.

I am suffering my second round of cancer(half way thru chemo/radiation),and just had a stent placed in my heart at Mass General Hospital, but a true aviation fan never rests. The pad has 2 VASI's,you can see embedded into the outer concrete half ring, and lead in lights on 220 heading.Night ops were spectacular with the strobes going off. This would be great to do in FS. https://plus.google.com/photos/107640782837467730204/albums?banner=pwa

Sitting down for 10+ hours. 8 hours of nothing? Sure there's the EICAS & Pilot response warning on some aircraft, other than that what do they do besides sit there whilst cruising?

Maybe I am in the wrong forum for this. I apologize if I am. After more than 10 years I've changed my server provider so now I would like to change my e-mail address in Avsim but I do not want to register a new account since it is the same old me still. I went to my profile but I can't see any references to e-mails there. Help pls. Cheers,

With all the talk of MH370 lately, I guess the story of LY219 has resurfaced and I am glad it did, I was not familiar with this story although LY does have a perfect history of never being victim of a successful hijacking. Also interesting how the Pilot did not allow boarding due to consecutive passport #'s. So El Al was doing in 1970 what most countries are struggling to do today... Unrelated to MH370 but great article on the only incident to use armed force to disable terrorists onboard... I was not familiar with this story: http://www.timesofisrael.com/how-to-defeat-airplane-terrorists-from-the-only-pilot-who-ever-foiled-a-skyjacking/ Some amazing observat…

Last Wednesday, March 20th, AVSIM met with and engaged an experienced team of IT specialists to aid in growing AVSIM and to maintain its robustness and responsiveness to our community in the future. They bring to our team skill sets that are applicable to our entire range of our present and future architecture and systems. Together, we are creating a road map for our future growth and stability. We will be working on that in the coming weeks and months. We will be adding substantially to the road map as we optimize our current system and prepare it for future additional hardware and software tools. Some of the things will be doing in the future include: Immediate Act…

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/23/sunday-review/the-pilots-in-the-basement.html?src=rechp MUCH has been made of the flight simulator found in the home of Capt. Zaharie Ahmad Shah, the pilot of the missing Malaysia Airlines jet. Why would a guy who spends so much time flying real airplanes want to pretend he’s flying a fake one in his off hours?

On Monday, March 24th, AVSIM will celebrate its 18th birthday. On Tuesday, the 25th, at noon EST, we will shut the system down for planned maintenance (happy birthday to us!!!). On Tuesday our plan is to power down the system and replace the first of three questionable hard drives in the Web / Forum server. If we power up and the system works, we will allow the RAID system to automatically incorporate the replacement disk as it would normally (or should). On Wednesday, we will repeat the process and as we will also do on Thursday. Each day at noon on those three days, the system will be powered down and a disk will be replaced. If that works, the downtime on each day …

Just wanted to share this little story with you. I am 27 years old, started to smoke when I was 19. At the age of 25 I quit for 10 months but then came back to it and smoked even more. 2 days ago I had 1 pack a day. Than I started to think - what does it give me? Why is it better than landing an NGX in fog on my hometown airport coming from Greek Islands where I spent my last holiday? Why is it better than Cessna pre flight inspection and checking for foul spark plugs? Why is it better than watching gsx loading baggage to my AXE on this fancy cargo platform? So I quit again. I know it is not long but I do not smoke for 2 days. Not because I want to break up with t…

Hey was I thinking, Is it possible that the cabin of MH370 lost oxygen without explosive decompression? Possible system malfunction? Maybe they were having electronic system malfunctions and started pulling buses and changed course for closest viable aerodrome but become overcome by hypoxia from a pressure system malfunction? This could explain the "okay, goodnight" message and later mumbled communication to japan airways from F/o as Hypoxia can do very strange things to brain. Any thoughts?

Guys/gals, I realize some of my responses are coming across as short or confrontational or just pissy and wanted to apologize. It is not my intent at all. For those who know me you know I have had some health issues over the years including a hip replacement 3 years ago. Well the hip failed and I had total revision surgery 3 weeks ago tomorrow. In addition to replacing my prosthetic they had to intentionally slice a tendon which connects your femur to your spine. Needless to say mentally and physically this has been very tough. I have not slept properly in weeks, am still restricted to bed and am doing my best to stay positive minute by minute hour by hour day by…

With all the saturation in the MSM of MAS370 and the spotlight on our beloved, yet underground, hobby, I wonder what everyone here thinks of the attention PC simming is receiving? When I first found out the captain had a fancy simulator at home with the PMDG 777 installed, I was overjoyed. You know the saying "There is no such thing as bad publicity"? I remember feeling the same excitement when the Wall Street Journal published a profile on PMDG and the release of their 777 last September. Too often, I am afraid to mention that I spend so much time with FSX and the PMDG addons, for fear that both pilots and non pilots alike see it as a game. I have always wished our …

I have been checking out the Pilatius PC-12 and the TBM 850. Both of them are amazing aircraft. I think it is pretty Kool to push 30,000' in a single with state of the art avionics. I have been searching for a top notch FSX version of either, preferably the Pilatius and no ill feelings for Carenado or Wilco. So if anyone knows of another or here is a shout out to the developers.

One benefit of living (at least for another week, I am moving to Virginia) near Luke AFB is I get to see the Thunderbirds every two or three years during the Luke Days Airshow. Like many who see them, I just choose to drive to many of the surface streets or to the parking lot of the nearby Zoo/Theme Park to watch them. I got to enjoy their rehearsal on Friday the 14th, the got to see them again on the 15th. It's amazing how much real estate they have to carve up in the sky to perform their graceful aerial ballet.... Just to set up for one series of stunts they cover about 5NM at times so people can see them from their homes, near the base, or on the base itself if the…
