  3. Many here may remember Paul Roussin from the FSX Beta Team. Paul is the author of GammaPro which is by far the best screen recording software. Paul was diagnosed with terminal cancer not long ago and we lost him for a few minutes the other day. Here's the transcript of his email to me. Paul's email address is proussin AT verizon DOT net and I'm sure would love to hear from everyone how much he is loved. Please drop him a line, he's a great guy who's life light is about to go out. Sincerely, Dean.

Took this photo today of a Norwegian Air Ambulance EC135 and EC145, Norwegian police EC135, Royal Norwegian Air Force Sea King from 330 Sqn, and a Bell 412 from 720 Sqn in formation showing their final respects to EMS helicopter pilot Bjørn Nergård. The aircraft executed the missing man formation over the funeral procession. Nergård and medical doctor Anders Nakstad both lost their lives in a tragic accident on January 14 when their EC135 helicopter struck power lines during a confined landing at the scene of a road traffic accident. A third crewmember was seriously injured. A tribute to all who serve to help others.

An Australian pilot took off from Port Macquarie to Bankstown airport in a Cessna 210, turned on the Autopilot, switched on the Country Music, then fell asleep at the controls. The plane entered Sydney Airspace and 2 inbound commercial flights had to be diverted to a higher altitude to avoid the Cessna. When he woke up he noticed he was over Sydney so he descended to 2500' and switched to Traffic Advisory and gave his position, he monitored Sydney, Brisbane and Williamtown and thought no one noticed him. ATSB investigated and he has been grounded. Moral of the story....shouldn't listen to Country Music when flying in a C210  http://www.stuff.co.nz/travel/trave…

This is terrible. 8 apparently lost thier lives. This on the 744 25th anniversary. Quite the safety record. Load shift is whats thought. Someone didnt put the lock up for the pallets. Another article says the Taliban claim responsibility. Thoughts go out to the families and the support they will need. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/report-american-747-cargo-jet-171026949.html

In modern high activity terminals, are "Walk Arounds" still performed by the Flight Crew- Capt. or FO? Watching the ground activity from windows in the passenger lounge, FD crew always seem to be in the cockpit- especially on fast turnaround runs- still there when boarding is called and also moments later when I enter the aircraft from the jetway. No walk around that I can see. Perhaps the ground Crew Chief is in a better position to spot exterior problems/ tire wear/ damage etc. And the frantic pace of activity on the ground in the final 20 minutes, is most likely when damage or forgetfulness to lock a hatch, remove ground safety devices, might occur. in fa…

  15. Hello, I am currently at Florida Tech training for my commercial multi and I've been using the commercial prepware product for my written knowledge test studying tool. However I have heard mixed opinions on it regarding its currency. Some people have said that they don't use the current FAA questions while others say they do. My instructor told me to use sheppard air instead but as I've already bought prepware, I want to make sure that these statements are true. Any ideas? Regards, Harry.

  17. http://blog.getinch.com/send-name-space-along-osiris-rex-spacecraft/ A cool picture just popped up on NASA’s Instagram yesterday about the so-called OSIRIS-REx spacecraft visiting an asteroid. As usual, the name is an abbreviation, standing for Origins Spectral Interpretation Resource Identification Security Regolith Explorer. The mission is targeting the asteroid 101955 Bennu (also known as 1999 RQ36), an Apollo asteroid with a mean diameter of approximately 493 meters. The goal is to study and return a sample of the asteroid named by a 9-year-old. The spacecraft is planned for launch in September 2016, will travel for about two years untill it reaches the as…

  20. An update... When we reinstalled TapaTalk and updated the software and hooks associated with the latest release, our server load exploded by approximately five times. And it has been fairly consistent at that load level since. As we increase connections approaching 900 to 1,000 users the system gets very slow. Some will see a 503 error and will continue to see 503 errors until we can get some of our architecture rearranged. I just want everyone to know that until we can make those changes, things could get flaky. And there might be times at peak loads, that we will shut down access via TapaTalk and searches from the various search engines in order to keep content flowing …

  21. Back on 2 October I ordered FS Global ULTIMATE - Europe/Africa on DVD which was sent the following day via the US Postal Service. Last week I sent an email to PC Aviator asking when it might arrive. No response. Yesterday I posted another request asking when it might arrive. Still no response. I don't believe it should take over two weeks for a small item like this to arrive especially when the shipping cost was $7.80. But what really concerns me is their lack of response to a customer request. As this is my first order with them I'm getting concerned. If the DVD doesn't arrive in 7 days and I fail to hear from them I shall contact my credit card company for a…

I'd like to fly fighters for a while - tired of tubeliners. First, I know I'm not a developer. No time. Some expertise. I'm not hacking on anyone in particular or any vendor or distributor, this is just a general venting of frustration. I purchased an aircraft the other day. Was happy until I really dived into it. Error after error after error. Let me go back in time. I am a former USAF crewchief. I have a LOT of experience with the F-16 (all variants), some experience with the F-15E, F-4E, and A-10A. So I know how to start one, how to taxi one if necessary (US Air Force frowns on that after a guy stole a C-130 due to stress and family reasons, but that's…

  25. I'm a 95% freeware addon user and former payware addon addict. Back in the good old days (FS98->FS2004) I used mostly freeware, but with FSX things changed. Not only did the quality gap between freeware and payware increase, but many former freeware developers never moved on to FSX, and those who did had a lot of ground to cover before they were up to speed. But things have changed, and we're seeing better freeware than ever. Impressive creations by SunSkyJet, FSX AI Bureau (FAIB), Manfred Jahn, Dino Cattaneo, Ray Smith, Ant's Airplanes, Tim "Piglet" Conrad, to name a few, is impressive to say the least. To me one of the best areas of freeware is AFCADs and AI T…
