Today marks the centenary of the start of the Somme offensive, and there have been numerous commemorations both in France and here in the U.K. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-36674451 It was the bloodiest day in the history of the British Army. By sundown, the Fourth Army had suffered 57,470 casualties, of which 19,240 men were killed. The Somme is to Britain and Ireland what Verdun is to France. Though the slaughter would continue until November, when the offensive was finally called off, it is that first dreadful day and that dark, almost funereal name, that are still etched on our national psyche. 1st July 1916. The Somme. Rest in Peace.

I rebuilt my sim a few months ago to P3D3. When I did, I left off as many airplanes as I possibly could. There were *a lot* that didn't get installed. This has allowed me to get more into the details and nuance of flying them...learning more details about the G1000 in the Mustang...It's also allowed me to broaden generic skills like IMC, ILS, non-precision approaches and the like. It also makes the wide array of decisions clearer. I have one airplane of each type I want...a smaller GA twin (I actually don't have a single engine piston right now), a medium GA, and a commercial. I decide what kind of flying I want to do, pick an airport, pick my flight from FlightAwar…

Copied from Facebook Following the completion of long term discussions, Dovetail Games is pleased to announce we will be partnering with Orbx Simulation Systems in order to bring key aspects of their technology to Flight School and Flight Simulator, both scheduled for release this year. Orbx Simulation Systems has dominated the flight simulation scenery space since CEO John Venema founded the company in 2006. "We are thrilled to partner with Dovetail Games as they usher in a new era of 64-bit simulators built on robust technology that we have a decade of experience in developing for", says John Venema, CEO of Orbx Simulation Systems. "We've developed a soli…

Ok then, did anyone happen to notice that there are no instructions in the tutorial? The tutorial starts out saying "ok, go to full power!"...And i'm like ok how do I do that? Where are the instructions for the tutorial. hahaha this is just absolutely crazy. I have always had a very keen eye to seeing flaws in products and this one is a HUGE DOOSEY!!!! I thought tutorials were supposed to help acclimate the user to the controls/buttons that make the software work...... I think that in the effort to make this as real as possible the devs thought that adding that information in the tutorial would lessen it's realism. Well great job!!! You have made it just like a …

Looks like the DTGFS DA42 is just before release. https://steamdb.info/app/441920/depots/ And they plan do release additional content contrary to their original intentions? DLC 441930 is the DA42, but there is 441931 and 441932 too. https://steamdb.info/app/441920/dlc/

I am relatively new to flight simulation, and at this point, I have, unfortunately, sunk into a standard of "high expectations" from the add-ons that sometimes can be pricey. That is not to say the add-ons aren't worth the price, but their quality sometimes generates hype about upcoming projects. I would like to know why do developers keep everything a secret, and why do they update us, their customers, so rarely? It's like you have to look for updates on wikileaks, or perhaps find your way to a vault where only a country's top officials know the code! Is it some business tactic? Is it a conservative approach, making sure they dont release any products / informati…

for a passenger charter operation, small or large what is the ratio of having customers come in to the "home/base" airport vs's having to go out and pick them up then take them to their destination? I'm assuming that would vary to where your "base" airport is at? let's say, KBOI, or KBZN, etc. Thanks

Like on a new PC? It looks like you're out of luck. Sibwings forum has not been manned for God knows how long and now it's unobtainable. At least there's no more shouting in the dark. At least they've had the decency to shut down the main website as well. I was lucky enough to be able to reinstall my BirdDog and Safir with a bit of juggling, but no luck with the AN-2 or Pitts. Hey ho, it's a shame. I hope nothing untoward has happened to Alex and Andrey as they were good guys.

As per many others on here, I have read the initial text from DTG about their forthcoming release of 'Flight School' (to be followed later in the year by the full-blown 'Flight Sim'), and I am genuinely puzzled - in that they appear to claim that they have cracked the mythological 64bit barrier that has been the bane of the original ESP since the year dot? If (and there is no reason to question their statement), they have indeed created a 64bit Sim then I supect that us 'Old-Schoolers' might just become a thing of the past and that we are about to enter a whole new world of financial pain. LM have an ongoing (albeit dedicated 32bit-oriented) commercial interest th…

Well this is embarrassing. Last week I blew off an important meeting but of course I had a good reason. I was just shy of top of descent in the NGX heading into Denver. After all, sterile cockpit rules would not allow me to take a conference call. Alas, I lost a big contract as a result. What's worse is I was planning on that contract to pay for the new machine I just built for p3d! Let this be a lesson to all pilots. Enjoy yourselves, but not at the expense of the hand that feeds you! So how about a little commiseration? Anyone else care to share an embarrassing tale when a little too much simming caused your work performance to suffer?

Posted 26 June 2016 - 09:53 PM Hello, I am currently having a problem with the bad textures of ai traffic on v pilot. I am using p3d v3.2 and v pilot beta version because the standard one did not make the models. I have two questions. Sometimes models like the 737 look amazing, then models like the aurbus look aweful. How can I fix that. And I am using MyTraffic6, but am not sure if it is connected to vatsim. All I see for model matching is WOA then 6 models identified. They give me the models just in bad textures. And one more question. On the models there are little circles of light, 1 on top and two on the bottom. I think they might be the landing and turnoff lights. …

Hi all Starting dome free flights after initially completing the basic maneuvers in UK with the Cub. Unfortunately, I have not been able to properly assign my brakes to the left/right toe brakes. I have tried this in the settings, choosing MFG Crosswind device. Key/axis assignment, I have my left toe brake assigned to my let toe brake axis, like wise for my right side. The problem is that my brakes won't release when I step off of them on my rude pedals. I've tried this both invert active and inactive, same result. I have been flying with FSX and still fly with P3D, having had no problem setting my rudders there. I'd appreciate any advice,

I am British, but not wildly nationalistic/patriotic at all. I think there's a lot that's good about this country, but I have lived abroad, in many different countries, for a total of some 20 years now and am well aware of many things that are so much better elsewhere! That said, I have never lived, or been, anywhere where the sense of customer service is so deep and genuine as here in the UK. That means that I am kind of used to, and expect a reasonable level of customer service when I spend my hard-earned cash with one company rather than another, and get a bit 'disappointed', shall we say, when companies fall far short of this. I wonder if anyone would care to nomi…

Well its not a Prepar3D Video its Project Cars but this is where all my YouTube FSX and Prepar3D for those of you who know my channel were all made. My two man cave activities when time allows Flight Sim and Sim Racing. This is my last drive because I am moving to an apartment on Wednesday. The sim chair is already sold. Had a lot of fun over the years with this. As well as the G27 it accommodated a host of flight sim peripherals. Saitek Cessna yoke, rudder peddles, Trim wheel, TPM, custom 737 TQ and the venerable Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2, all easily interchangeable. It's more than just gaming and many of you know we try to emulate reality as accurately as po…

I'm NOT talking about NetJets or something like that, I'm talking something more like; 1 owner/pilot 2 plane, maybe a single engine piston or twin 3. no fbo, just working from cell phone and internet, self marketing, etc aside from having to get your ATP and all of that.. how much would it cost? I mean the plane, yes, but do you have to pay extra fees, to get your plane to FAR 135 requirements? and I know, you would have your insurance and other monthly expenses, I'm not talking about that. I would like an amount to start. Should a person have 100K or more like 1-5 million? The millions seems a bit to high for a one man show that I'm talki…

Hi all. Today i finally took the dive and bought flight school (a small dive ill admit) Anyway I'm both impressed and disappointed. The scenery is brilliant, i was surprised to see objects such a power stations etc. However i find myself extremely frustrated. I have a half decent graphics card. AMD R9 370. I run Prepar3d v3 on my system with high end addons and do just fine. I've found that when i set radeon settings to 4 x super sampling as i would with prepar3d or fsx steam, I end up with extremely low fps. Around 12fps in some lessons. With multi sampling the AA is absolutely awful. I've tried many different combinations with no luck I would appreciate it if …
