So many "flight" simulators lately.... I'm holding for DTG FSchool, and then latter 2016 / early 2017, their Flight SIm. LM P3D could go 64 bit in between too, maybe... XP11 might be announced ... maybe... I'm really glad I have DCS and PSX... otherwise I would feel rather "stressed" right now

  5. I want to start by saying that a someone very inspirational to me has died. I get teary-eyed just thinking about it. Just so you have an idea of who he was... - http://gregconnellairshows.com/meet-the-pilot/ - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MiwKe11jpM The funny thing is I barely knew him personally. I met him first at the Greenwood Lake Airshow in 2014, then again at the airshow in 2015. He was an act I particularly remembered, along with Gary Ward. They often performed together as a duet... Greg in his Wolfpitts Biplane, and Gary in his MX2 Monoplane. Greg was one of the most amazing pilots I had ever seen. But on May 14, 2016, at Peachtree Airport i…

Even though this is of minor interest for flight simulation, we should consider this adventure like the first leg of a - very - long journey to a cleaner aviation, we are back to Ader and Wright speeds, but who would have guessed what happened a century later then!!!? Happy viewing.

So, there I was at 39000 feet.... Yesterday morning I'd set up a flight via online flight planner for the Lufthansa Cargo MD-11 (iFDG) from Singapore, stopping at Dubai, with a further flight plan over to Manchester. (Don't care if it ever was/is an actual route I just wanted to fly some long haul cargo from the far east). Anyhow, I'd got about 2000 NM into the flight then ... BOOM.rumble!! Thunderstorm outside my house..... and the power goes down. no uninterruptible power supply on my PC :( Had I saved the flight close to it's current position? Nope. Reload the tri jet half a continent back from whence she came. Oh well..

This year, I went ahead and bought a subscription to Navigraph Charts. I find it to be a very useful product when planning flights. I have come across something I am unfamiliar with, and perhaps has gotten me in some sticky situations, more specifically with approaches. When determining a given arrival, I typically get a runway from PFPX, to which in turn, I complete my flightplan via the MCDU, where it asks for a runway and then a STAR. When conferring with the charts, I see that some airports have many different approaches for the same runway. For example, at LGAV, runway 03R, I have an option for ILS X/Z 03R ILS Y 03R, but I cannot tell the difference. Other airp…

A friend of mine recently brought to my attention how STUPID some PPL exam questions in Spain are. I don't know how it is in other countries, but these questions make the sweet ******* child cry: I'm going to translate them from Spanish to English literally (or as literally as I can). None of these options are correct. The "most correct" one would be "b", but not quite, since the boundary layer is ALWAYS separated at some point on the wing. Also, there are wings that exhibit a "recirculation buble", which means that a large portion of the wing has a separated boundary layer, yet the wing is not stalled. The proper definition of a stall is the following: …

Hello pilots, I was just wondering how many of you out there fly Drones (Quadcopters/ Fixed wing FPV) as a second hobby? I know it can get expensive just as our sim hobby. I purchased a Phantom 2 (new) and set it up with a go pro and have been getting some very nice aerial video. Mine came with a gimble so you can rotate it 360 degrees up and down while in flight. I registered mine with the FAA as (required for my quadcopter) it is not a toy. Anyway, do you or have you ever flown a quadcopter with FPV (first person view) ?

  23. Hi all, I'm planning one of my occasional trips to the United States in September, with the intention of visiting the USAF Museum at Wright Patt. From what I can tell, the new building will be opening in June, which will bring the experimental and Presidential aircraft collection over to the museum proper ( as opposed to the active side of the airfield ). Time to make that long-anticipated visit, I think. There is one aeroplane there that I absolutely must see before I expire ! I'll be driving from Pittsburgh to the museum, and I'd appreciate recommendations as follows: a ) General advice about the museum. b ) Hotels nearby. c ) Places to eat in the evening ( or not…

Interesting blog post on flightradar24. They followed an American 787 for a year and came up with some interesting statistics. N800AN made 445 commercial flights in 365 days and traveled 3,924,758 kilometers. https://www.flightradar24.com/blog/dreamlining-following-an-american-airlines-787-for-a-year/ Would be interesting to know how much revenue it created and how many passengers it transport during that time! It is just mind boggling that these aircraft how much these aircraft are really working....

  25. The RCAF has officially gained the title of best pre-flight announcements ever. All airlines should take note, and have their attendants start cutting to the chase while giving their speech regarding oxygen masks and such. I'm still addicted to combing through all of the current events regarding the YMM area fires, and it's nice to see something a bit lighter in tone. Just thought I'd share. PLEASE NOTE, THE LANGUAGE USED IN THIS LINKED YOUTUBE VIDEO IS NOT SAFE FOR WORK OR KIDS. (Well, unless your kids are adults too, and your work is cool with a bit of swearing.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eemin7DNvYg
