Hangar Chat
This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar. Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here. Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc. Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view. We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

As per the title, a BAe Hawk trainer suffered an engine failure and the crew banged out - suffering minor injuries - with no-one on the ground being hurt. If you want a good laugh though, check out this report and listen for the mistake by the presenter about 'simulated' missile attacks. Personally, I'd have gone for the good old: 'fifteen acres of property in Cornwall has been destroyed, causing almost three pound fifty's worth of damage'. 🤣

This looks like it may well be repairable. New props and a complete tear-down and re-build of the engines at a minimum. Might need to buff out some scratches on the belly though... LAPORTE COUNTY INDIANA — A general aviation plane crash-landed onto a field Monday in rural LaPorte County, police said. The airplane went down near U.S. 421 and County Road 1100 South in rural Clinton Township at about 12:45 p.m. Monday, according to the LaPorte County Sheriff's Office. I just started reading a book titled The Last Stand of Fox Company. It's a bout the First Marine Division at Chosen Reservoir during the early days of the Korean War. The author describes the Marine Corps as Jesuits with guns. Having attended a Jesuit High School and having been a Marine I think the term fits perfectly. Noel

No good for cars of course, too big and too hot but fantastic for grid scale storage. Thousands of cycles and almost no degradation. No issue with material toxicity or mining, long lifespan. Even possible to add a TEC and generate even more power. He's been approached by NASA for a power source for a mission to Venus. Also working on a system for the Moon and Mars.

The swatch made the 300 million-mile journey to Mars with the blessing of the Wright brothers' great-grandniece and great-grandnephew, said park curator Steve Lucht. Ingenuity will attempt the first powered, controlled flight on another planet no sooner than April 8. It will mark a "Wright brothers' moment," noted Bobby Braun, director for planetary science at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. https://www.ctvnews.ca/sci-tech/part-of-wright-brothers-1st-airplane-on-nasa-s-mars-chopper-1.5359266

At first witnesses were blaming the RAF for breaking the sound barrier. Turns out it was actually a meteor. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-56475333 A very large asteroid zipped past the planet the other day too. No danger, it was beyond the Orbit of the Moon... but one day a big rock will hit us.

Good! We buy the products, they become our property. And given how pathetic the lifespan is of many products, often failing just after the warranty, they should be repairable by ourselves and all spares available. Printers are the worst, I heard that there's a chip included that counts the number of prints you make and deactivates the printer when you reach a number the manufacturer decides is enough. Hopefully the amount of waste will be reduced. BBC News - 'Right to repair' law to come in this summer https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-56340077

I recently upgraded the major components in my PC: - MOBO, CPU & RAM. I wanted to upgrade the GPU as well, but the one I was looking for was OOS at online suppliers, but available on Ebay, between $800 & $1,000. (Quoted OOS price was $499). $800 is beyond my current budget. An alternative was available at a Retailer for $825, & a 4 month old review said they had 'picked it up for $200, great GPU etc etc.' But I am not sure of the veracity of the "$200" price. My question is, what is driving the shortages & are they likely to get better or worse in the next 6 months?? T45

Just saw this clip on the news of a plane that went down in Pembroke Pines, Fl that took out a passing car. Unfortunately the two in the a/c perished but the driver of the car and child passenger survived. Footage was taken from a doorbell camera.

Today I noticed that several of my flightsim purchase sights began notifying me that my account had been changed. Most notably PMDG, Milviz and and one or two others. PMDG apparently makes it next to impossible to contact customers service. The others I can contact. I have been on no other forums beyond Avsim. So be aware my friends a hacker is roaming the sight.
