  1. I planned a flight from LGRP Rhodes to Istanbul Ataturk this morning. Westerly departure on Rwy 25 in a Lear 25. I cannot see any good reason why I couldn’t turn right soon after departure and head north towards Turkey. But the BANRO 3P SID has me flying west until 13DME from RDS before a 180° left turn back over RDS and then a 140° left turn before heading north away from Rhodes. My pax will be dizzy with all those turns! 😳 I appreciate this can be a busy airport in summer months but surely the departures could be better routed. Comments appreciated especially from any pilots who may have flown to Rhodes in the real world.

  2. Hey guys I have the 787 for quality wings and is a workhorse of my fleet with BAW. Don't you guys think it would be cool and much more realistic to have the option to select the British Airways minimum calls? (I think BAW still uses these minimum calls in their 787 other than that the 777s are just the standard 'approaching minimums' and 'minimums' minimum calls)

I read a day or two ago where 143 more satellites were launched into orbit. Will there ever be a limit? In 2009 two satellites collided and sent 93,000 more pieces of space junk into orbit. In January of last year two large satellites passed within 15 meters of each other over Pittsburgh. Of the 9,000 satellites launched so far 5,000 are inop...dead. 2,000 are still operational. Those 9,000 plus launches have left 22,300 other trackable pieces of space junk and hundreds of thousands of untrackable pieces up there. With every launch those numbers go up and up. Everything goes someplace. Look at our oceans today. We thought the vast ocea…

  6. Hello fellow aviators. Regardless -16 centrigrade on the quicksilver and loads of snow here, spring is almost just around the corner! Spring means more time for flying and I'm pondering weither to renew my annual Skydemon subscription or not. A few at my local airport has started using Garmin Pilot instead (Garmin visited us and threw us a nice discount). But how is the actual experience? I have installed the app but I find the workflow/interface ( Android tablet) very clunky and not as intuitive as Skydemon's. I like Skydemon. I would not even ask this question if it wasn't for the fact that I own a Garmin D2 aviator watch. Supposedly some synergy can be had b…

Today's bird id the killdeer. It's a shore bird. Marshbirds are the long legged critters like the herons I posted a couple of weeks ago. Shorebirds are the short legged birds that run around the shores of lakes and ponds and wade in shallower water. The killdeer is quite common at the refuge. This first two pictures show a killdeer standing and one in flight. The third picture is of a killdeer nest. They build their nests in gravel and rocky areas. They posed a problem at the refuge because they would nest in the gravel roads around the refuge ponds and they would get run over by cars. We had to be on the watch for them as we drove around during our b…

We sometimes read of problems with third part y vendors on this forum. I think when you receive satisfaction from a vendor it should be noted here also. A few days ago I purchased the MilViz KA350i through the Orbx store. I got not get it registered with MilViz after it was installed. So I went to MilViz support and they responded by e-mail the following day. After spending some time with me they determined there was something in my computer that would not let the registration number through the internet connection. They suggested I contact Orbx for a refund and let them know MilViz authorized it. Yesterday I filled out a ticket on the Orbx site yesterd…

Snow geese are by far the most numerous geese that winter at the Bitter Lake Refuge. We get a few Canada geese, but not in as large flocks as the snow geese. Sandhill cranes are the second most numerous waterfowl that winter here. I'll talk about them next week. I sold the first picture of the three snow geese taking off several times. One of the ladies who volunteered at the refuge ran a small advertising agency and seemed to like that picture and suggested it to some of her clients. Noel

Not done any flying for the past couple of days (just installed a freeware airport and checked it out), I've been messing about with these bad boys.. I believe there are a fair few members who are into model railways, and some who are into simulated trains too: I charged up one of my old XBOX 360 controllers and resurrected Train Sim - not touched it for more than a year. 🍻

I have a simple question. I own a HP Reverb 1 and would like to know if I can exchange its (inflexible) cable by a more flexible G2 cable and where I could potentially purchase it separately, if available. I went to HP Support where I am promised Support via "Chat, Phone or E-Mail". I understand, I need a HP account and have to register my device first. Fine, I did this, the device was recognized and the remaining guarantee was displayed. Next, I expected the named options for "Chat, Phone or E-Mail", but no, there are: (i) Online-Support (ii) WhatsApp (iii) Messenger (iv) Phone but no E-Mail (i) Expectedly, the electric supporter i…

For those of you not from the UK, this has been a thing for quite a few years now. People claiming to have encountered a puma or leopard in Wales, Shropshire and other regions. I'm skeptical to be honest, not sure if this is a genuine phenomonon or not. Most of the photographs and video look like large domestic cats to me. https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/big-cat-spotted-north-wales-23275787 And we have no way of knowing if the paw prints are genuine. The theory is that when licensing and strict regulations were imposed in 1976, some owners set their big cats free. And so today, big cats populate places like the Welsh countryside, Cornwall, Exmoo…

This report is published here https://edpierson.com/ by a retired senior manager at Boeing's 737 Factory in Renton. ``The paper underscores the likely role a chaotic and dangerously unstable production environment played in the accidents. Mr. Pierson also puts forth three other plausible accident scenarios not addressed in the accident investigations. The 14-page report includes a timeline and an analysis that ties the two 737 MAX airplane crashes together in ways not previously reported. Most importantly, Mr. Pierson’s analysis raises serious doubts as to the safety of the 737 MAX. Alarmingly, the FAA’s recertification fixes do not address the problems identified in …

I know this has positively, absolutely nothing to do with flightsim anything but there are so many smart folks here I thought I'd try it anyway. I have a collection of movies on DVD. I've been buying them for now over 15 years. Recently, I ran across two that, no matter what I tried, wouldn't play correctly. So I decided it was time to backup the entire collection to be sure that wouldn't happen again. Technology is a never changing thing and I've found that physical discs are really a thing of the past. So my tech-smart son advised me to back them up some other way. After a lot of research I chose high-quality .mp4 files. I did a lot more research and found that the…

One of my favorite movies. I'm a big fan of Pat Conroy's writings and the movies made from them. Another favorite is Conrack. Since I do not have a copy of The Great Santini in my Nook collection I decided to add it. But on the way there I came across The Death Of Santini, Pat Conroy's latest book. The 20 page preface is chilling. I never realized that The Great Santini was a true story. It is. But it pulls a lot of punches. As Conroy says in the preface it was a sanitized version of life in the Beaufort house because when he wrote it he didn't think anyone would believe the truth. Don Conroy was the ultimate warrior, both in the cockpit and at home.…
