  1. Today is officially announced, California is banning selling or buying gasoline/diesel powered autos, starting in 2035. California is unique in that there are probably 5 million long distance commuters to work every day. An extensive freeway system of roads allow such to happen (its too expensive for the average citizen to buy a house near the big cities where the jobs are. So they commute, long drives). So there is a private service AAA who provide roadside assistance subscriptions, namely they carry small tanks of fuel for the thousands who run out of petrol every day, and portable batteries for 'jumping' dead starters. By the way its no problem right now ha…

  3. Flight ET343 from Khartoum in Sudan to Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa and missed the landing because the pilots had fallen asleep. The ATC had contacted the pilots to authorize them to descend to the apt in Addis Ababa from the altitude of 37,000 ft but did not receive response to numerous requests until the plane flew over the airport at 37,000 ft, when the cockpit sounds of the autopilot disconnection woke the pilots. https://www.businesstoday.in/trending/world/story/ethiopian-airlines-pilots-fall-asleep-mid-flight-miss-landing-at-addis-ababa-airport-345086-2022-08-19

It's often possible to get a free week of PBS Masterpiece Channel with Amazon Prime membership. Other good mystery / detective series are Endeavor and Broadchurch. A good family show is the new remake of All Creatures Great and Small (Welsh veterinarians in the 1930s). https://www.amazon.com/Flying-Doctor-Service-Season-Trailer/dp/B09L7JD8FX/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2HYUHAL3ZG2LU&keywords=royal+flying&qid=1661312383&s=instant-video&sprefix=royal+flying%2Cinstant-video%2C131&sr=1-1 https://www.amazon.com/Girl/dp/B00DUUKYFI/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1JDZHLU6ZWYJM&keywords=endeavor&qid=1661312445&s=instant-video&sprefix=endeavor%2Cinstant-video%2C…

Question for real world pilots. How long did it take before you tried your first landing? I've been using flightsim for 25 years, so I thought I'd try some real world flying. It's very different than in the sim, and though I'm doing takeoffs, I've never done an unassisted landing.

Looks like we have an all day rain event today. Mostly light rain but with a moderate shower lasting a few minutes and some dry spots when the rain stops for a while. Reminds me of San Francisco. And for my part of the country it's a real blessing. It will spend the day soaking our lawns. In WindyT I can zoom in to the neighborhood level and see which part of town is getting the most rain. I've been monitoring the rain on weather radar on WindyT. I like WindyT because it gives you everything from wind data to weather radar that includes lightning strikes to hurricane and typhoon tracking. It can give you the predicted rainfall amounts for the next 12 hours…

Woops, there go they go... "The Bank of England urged people holding paper 20- and 50-pound bills to spend or deposit them with a financial institution before they are no longer legal tender. Retail outlets will no longer accept them starting in October, but banks and the post office may continue to do so." (I guess that also might mean that banks and the post office might not continue to do so). 🤔

  14. The crash occurred at Lampasas Airport (KLZZ), Texas at a Cessna 180. The pilot reported that on landing he had encountered a strong crosswind but instead of hanging up he preferred to land for then decide to take off as shown in the video forgetting that the trees on the side of the runway where... he landed, were a barrier against the wind and the crash was inevitable.

Have you ever heard of these places let lone flown to them in your simulator? I have finished the Western Hemisphere of creating startup flights at different airports for my Kodiak and adding an icon to the screen for each one so I can go directly to a selected airport and be standing next to my aircraft in its parking space. 412 flights covering 3 pages. Yesterday I completed setting up 20 startup scenarios for Northen Europe and started exploring Eastern Europe for suitable startup airports. I wanted an airport representative of northern Russia on the European side of the Urals. I found Pechora, Uktha and Syktyvkar and was surprised find that all th…

Or you ended up like this: An Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration ET-AOB performing flight ET-343 from Khartoum (Sudan) to Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), was enroute at FL370 when the pilots fell asleep. The aircraft continued past the top of descent maintaining FL370 and continued along the FMC route set up for an approach to runway 25L without descending however. ATC tried to contact the crew numerous times without success. After overflying runway 25L at FL370 the autopilot disconnected, the disconnect wailer woke the crew up who then maneouvered the aircraft for a safe landing on runway 25L about 25 minutes after overflying the runway at FL370. The aircraf…

So I am reposting it here to see if any of you could help me because I know there are many more frequent visitors to the avsim forum. Here is a copy of my thread on vatsim: I recently joined vatsim and everything is working fine, except for one thing I'd like to do and I'm hoping someone here can help me achieve it. Here is my setup: I have an HP desktop, I have MSFS, Windows 10, vpilot, and a headset with mic that attaches to my computer via the 3.5mm cord. I also have speakers that I have always used on my PC. Edith was not born into royalty, but her father was a very successful businessman. The house she grew up in had 25 indoor servants and 18 gardeners. She married a war hero. When he died she remembered the archaeology witnessed in her worldwide travels with her parents as a child. and she moved to a house located on and near ancient burial mounds. She could not persuade anyone to dig them up. There are thousands of mounds in Britain and it takes a major effort. She became a spiritualist and let seance ghosts guide her to probable locations. A few minor but promising pieces were quickly found and this allowed her to persuade a noted archaeologist to finance a major ex…

A work colleague has expressed an interest in flight simming and would be mainly interested in passenger jets. He's asked me how hard it is to learn and what the best approach would be. I've always thought it better to start small and build up skills gradually i.e. VFR, navigation, IFR, complex single, piston twin, etc so as to avoid becoming overwhelmed. I'm aware though that this might seem too slow and that real-world pilots also follow a gradual path for cost and safety reasons that don't apply in the sim. I suppose you could start learning VFR and so touch and goes and cross-country navigation a 737...that's the beauty of a sim. 😁 Thoughts?

  25. Greetings, I am trying to learn a simple way to access different drives on a single PC. I have a SSD 2TB (C:) and a separate SSD 1TB (E:). I am trying to find an easy way to toggle between the two as my level of BIOS knowledge is insufficient and I'm terrified of screwing things up. At present, I have MSFS, P3Dv5 and X-plane 11 on a single drive. The goal will be to divide things up with perhaps MSFS and P3D on one drive (C:) with X-Plane 12 on (E:). X-Plane 11 will be a goner. Usually, Google and YouTube are my best friends but searches have only resulted in more confusion. Any and all assistance is greatly appreciated.
