Hangar Chat

This forum is for the discussion of things you might discuss when going into an airport hangar.  Please make sure that your topic isn't covered in another forum before posting here.  Please refrain from controversial topics...politics, religion, conspiracy theories, climate change, COVID etc.  Topics that elicit or are deemed by staff likely to elicit heated argument, contention, or otherwise objectionable banter will be removed from view.  We allow some latitude, but please remember that, first and foremost, this is a flight-simulator oriented site frequented by people from all walks of life.

Phew! This was the first unmanned launch in a long time. Just scientific packages onboard. If it had been manned, that's a lot of G for the occupants. A real kick in the seat of the pants. I believe any occupants would have been on their backs though which helps. 9G I've heard. At least they know the abort system works, although if 90 years old Captain Kirk had been onboard he's have had quite an experience.

Of course few of us use email passwords to read our messages, except once in a blue moon. But that password is what keeps others from reading them and for instance stealing your Steam Account and all your Steam purchases. They just type your email on the steam login and check the box: "forgot my password". Then they read the email from Steam and use that to reset the password. And then they turn on 2 step verification, the other step being their phone number, not yours. At that point they're in and you're out. They can verify, you can't. A similar problem caused me to have a 1 hour forced period off of Steam. Someone in our household changed the Steam password a few …

My youngest daughter is the CFO of a mortgage company in Denver. We were talking this afternoon on the phone and she told me she is working from home three days a week; Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. She goes into the office on Mondays and Fridays. She told me her employees also work from home and how well it works out. Then she said it won't be long before everybody is working at home, it's the coming thing. I told her it might be for a small percentage of employees; those who do office work. But the vast majority of people cannot work from home. Here's a partial list: Bus and taxicab drivers. Law enforcement and lawyers. Construction workers and h…

  13. Terrible accident at Conakry International Airport, Guinea where a TAP A320 after landing collided with a motorcycle that was crossing the runway. According to the Newsavia website, the two occupants of the motorcycle died horribly after being sucked into an engine. The driver of the motorcycle was identified as a security agent responsible to protect airport facilities. 15. Hello, For the first time in my life, I have all the spare time in the world until November/December. This forum is full of incredibly experienced flightsimmers that have been around for a very long time. However, I assume most of you are adults with jobs and other duties and don't have the proper spare time to introduce or mentor a friend who is looking to enter into the complex world of flight simulation. I love teaching and it would be incredible if I could pass the time by focusing and bringing someone from '0 to 100' within the likes of vatsim. Furthermore, I specialise more on the A320 series and the B737NG series so I can also help with that in addition to vat…

  16. Her last hurrah, final curtain. If she wins the tourney, then she ties Margaret Court for most all time major championships. Court, however, is the only person in tennis history to complete all four majors twice, in all three disciplines (singles, doubles, mixed). Uniquely, she won all 12 as an amateur and then after a period of retirement, returned as a professional to win all 12 again. But back to Serena. This would be like Tiger Woods tying Jack Nicklaus. Either is a less than even chance, but possible. https://sports.yahoo.com/serena-williams-stuns-at-us-open-014752382.html

Just some insight into how looking at things differently can change a situation entirely... So as some know I had a lengthy and complicated cervical fusion back in February that left me in many respects like a stroke patient down my right arm. Now I am no stranger to medicine unfortunately. One hip replacement, a second hip replacement with revision and psoas tendon release on the same side, multiple lumbar fusions, a plethora of GI issues, let's just say I've seen my fair share. So Fusion in February and I circle August 10th on the calendar the day I have my fusion as the day I will get back in my race car. You will never meet a goal you don't set. I knew…

"I closed my eyes and ducked at that point because it was so close and the bird hit the canopy, which unfortunately shattered. The bird and lots of the canopy then flew into the cockpit." Airshow in my neck of the woods tomorrow. And the Red Arrows are performing. Unfortunately no Typhoon this year, at least its not listed, that's disappointing. Blackjack I recall the display Typhoon is called. Thunder and lightnin…

Over the last few months, I have been firing up any of my 3 flight sims, less and less. Over the last three weeks, I have been researching what tech, (and its cost to purchase) to 'upgrade' from my present i7-980 Extreme CPU, an EVGA 1070 FTW, all in my Dell XPS Tower. After putting all the cost together...CPU/GPU/Mother Board/Memory....and it being in the thousands of dollars., I simply stepped back, and decided I want to step off this 'train' at the next depot. I have been trying to ramp up my 'rah rah' over the upcoming release of XP-12...but now, realize that I will not be buying it after all. XP-11 will be good enough for a 15 minute fantasy flight here…

  22. I went to our local airport, KMDH (the one with the microbrewery) for a burger and two or three glasses of Cadence Porter and noticed a bunch of American Eagle CRJs, and a Mesa Airlines one. There is no scheduled service to this airport by anyone, although defunct Air Illinois used to operate BAC One Elevens out KMDH, weirdly. Apparently, they're parked because they don't have pilots to fly them.

This happened on the 18th August. They were pacing his aircraft Mach 0.87. But flying in tight circles despite the speed. Above and to his left. Then in front. Then to his left. Filmed his PFD and manged to record the object. At night though and a few thousand feet above him so nothing spectacular on the video. 19:44 . I
