In this article (in Dutch) from NOS.nl there are serious claims about the safety of Qatar Airways flights because it states: " We have observed for months in closed chat groups where dozens of Qatar Airways pilots complain about working conditions. Flight limits are extended to the extreme and the resulting fatigue complaints are ignored, it seems. The NOS spoke extensively with five pilots. For security reasons, they are listed anonymously in this article. They all say they fell asleep several times in the cockpit. "It's not a deep sleep, but you keep falling for 10 seconds. You seem to be drunk," describes one of the pilots. "You react slowly, you are easily distr…

When I was living in Japan I found spoken Japanese was quite easy to learn. Granted I had a Japanese wife at the time and I was the supervisor for the Japanese work crew at the base bomb dump and I was taking lessons from the University of Maryland over there, but it was a straight forward language to learn. I even learned how to read and write some of it. That was a bit more difficult. But English. What can I say? My Mom was raised in Belgium and Flemish was her native language. She would often complain about the difficulty in learning English. I can see why. Except for the first letter these four letter words are spelled the same but pronounced diff…

Free to view! (with ads) This extraordinary comic version of the historic 1910 London-to-Paris air race features the greatest aviators from around the world. They all come together when a stuffy, but very rich, newspaper publisher decides to sponsor an airplane race across the English Channel. Convinced it will give his newspaper worldwide publicity, the publisher offers 10,000 pounds to the winner. The escapades between the American, British, French, German, Italian and Japanese teams result in the most daring and hilarious in-flight acrobatic stunts ever caught on film. But the film's greatest triumph is the amazing re-creation of the vintage airplanes which did t…

I have always been fascinated by this story... *The passenger steamer SS Warrimoo was quietly knifing its way through the waters of the mid-Pacific on its way from Vancouver to Australia. The navigator had just finished working out a star fix and brought Captain John DS. Phillips, the result. * The Warrimoo's position was LAT 0º 31' N and LONG 179 30' W. The date was December 31, 1899. "Know what this means?" First Mate Payton broke in, "We're only a few miles from the intersection of the Equator and the International Date Line". * Captain Phillips was prankish enough to take full advantage of t…

I wish to offer my sincere condolences to my friends across the pond on the passing of Queen Elizabeth II this afternoon (Central Time). As she was 96 years old I cannot admit to being terribly surprised. I was only surprised to notice a live broadcast on Sky News of the event while browsing other videos. Long live His Majesty Charles III, the new King.

I have been out of this hobby for a long time. With the introduction of FS2020 I was having major technical issues and CTD's so I decided to walk away for a while and let it cook a little more. I got back in to the sim about a month ago and decided I was enjoying it so much again I would buy a new toy. I hit Amazon and bought a set of rudder peddles. I was like a school girl waiting for her date at the front door anticipating there arrival. I did not realize what a learning curve I had given myself. I have been a joystick Z axes rudder flyer for so long it seems like I have to rewire my brain to use peddles. Half the time I'm forgetting to get my feet in to position when …

JAL's 8 abreast seating for long haul flights and 9 abreast seating for short haul flights. https://simpleflying.com/japan-airlines-boeing-787-seat-configuration-guide/ Back in mid 90s when i was working for Air Research I was making a round trip flight from Denver to Los Angeles every two or three weeks. My home was Pueblo Colorado where I was working on the LIMRV at the DOT test track. But they had sent me to the Air Research plant in Torrance CA to work on a new linear induction motor they were testing for a Grumman test vehicle. Since I was an experience LIM tech I was sent out there to help out. I flew coach in a Continental DC-10 and always had…

In a previous post I mentioned that I was creating startup scenarios for my Kodiaks around the world. I thought I would get around 900 or so but I only ended up with 612 after adding the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Ocean islands. Then I started adding new freeware aircraft to my collection but there aren't that many that work n P3Dv5 unless I want to load up with B737s and Airbuses with different liveries. That might come later. The Quest Kodiak is the aircraft I fly 90% of the time. The other aircraft I fly somewhat frequently is the DG808S sailplane. So I decided to with it what I did with the Kodiak. Create startup scenarios at gliderports around the wo…

Hi, before I try to code something like this myself, I was wondering if anyone knows of a tool or similar that creates random flight rosters or schedules based on real world flights (ie for VA flying)…. ? So basically a tool where I can set an airline, destinations/airports I own, desired max flight time etc. and the tool spits out a random list of real route pairs of that airline, either A-B, B-C, C-D etc. or A-B, B-A, A-C, C-A etc… Does something lime this exist? cheers

3 days ago September 9, Trainsim World 3 launched on Steam and also Xbox series X|S. English, American, or German route editions. Any one of three is $39. Standard Edition with all 3: $49 Deluxe Edition with all 3 plus a UK steam train era route: $59 TSW is better graphics than Trainsimulator by the same company Dovetail Games, but not as complex under the hood, so to speak. https://www.thexboxhub.com/train-sim-world-3-review/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MW6V4s3hDrQ&ab_channel=TheXboxHub

Similar to the Ground Operations thread that was shared a few weeks ago that was actually professional training software developed for real world training purposes and the adapted to the consumer market it appear a rail line in Japan has done the same thing with the training software used for its real world operations... Seems intriguing. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2111630/JR_EAST_Train_Simulator/
