My wife and I liked it. Only 2 episodes on Prime have been released, and that was tonight. If there's one, there's a hundred youtube videos predicting how awful Rings of Power was going to be. Mainly because of the Ring producers insisted that they were updating Tolkien's world to make it conform more to modern tastes and ideals compared to the 1940s (when Tolkien seriously started to write what became his trilogy). Based on those YT videos and also what I thought were poor trailers, I was expecting a mediocre show. Notwithstanding the billion dollars it was costing Amazon to buy the rights and produce the series, which reportedly is to run for five seasons. 2 t…

For the past week I've been binge watching this fascinating series from Derbyshire, UK. I am very impressed with the extreme professionalism of these police constables! I've always wondered why folks from the UK refer to the ground as the "floor." Well, at least one of these cops was heard calling the ground the ground, live and on camera. "Get on the ground NOW!" What is still a mystery however is why the "e" in Derby is pronounced as an "a"... 😇

TUPELO, Miss. (AP) — A stolen airplane circled over north Mississippi on Saturday morning, and police said they evacuated a Walmart store after the pilot threatened to crash into it. The Tupelo Police Department said in a Facebook post that the Walmart and a nearby convenience store had been evacuated. The plane started circling over Tupelo, Mississippi, about 5 a.m.. It was still in the air about four hours later, but had flown away from Tupelo and was circling over another community nearby. Police said they have made contact with the pilot directly. “Citizens are asked to avoid that area until an all clear is given,” the police wrote. “With the mobility o…

Any idea as to what might be going on here? The route looks really strange to me, especially with the circle the aircraft is flying right now. https://imgur.com/iO1jASy The current position can be tracked here live on Flightradar24: https://www.flightradar24.com/TUI2144/2d4bd2ff It has landed, diverted back to Hannover... From Japan (C'mon, it was inevitable) Not sure how I would have reacted, as a kid. Intense excitement and awe, mixed with sheer terror, if it came my way too threateningly. Take your kids to see this, while being aware you just might have to be up all night with them. 🙃

Anyone here gotten into the New Urbanism/NotJustBikes/Strong Towns rabbit hole recently? For the last year or so I’ve been reading about urban planning and concepts such as car dependency, walkability, and the history of urban planning and city design in North America and it has completely changed how I look at the world and the built environment around me. Curious if anyone else here has fallen down this rabbit hole because I’ve been seeing more and more people mentioning some of these concepts in the various circles I’m in. _____________ For those who aren’t as familiar, I was first introduced to these concepts by the Youtube channel ‘NotJustBikes’. I ha…

Brits are going to have to choose to work from home in a cold house or go to the office where it's warm. https://www.cnbc.com/2022/08/25/cost-of-living-brits-to-ditch-home-working-as-heating-bills-soar.html That may happen here too. My heating bill jumped from $540 in 2021 to $1140 this year. I'll find out next month what it will be for 2023. Noel

And that's because there are only three things we can be absolutely certain of: 1. 1 + 1 = 2. It will always be two. Irregardless of experience. And as long as we agree that it can not be 11 (eleven) 2. We are all slaves to our senses 3. No one is leaving this place alive

Air France suspended two pilots for a fight on a flight between Geneva and Paris, not specifying the reasons for this fight. An announcement from the cockpit is probably being studied at Air France for ... seconds out, first take and the sound of the gong!😁 https://www.thedailybeast.com/two-air-france-pilots-suspended-for-mid-air-fight

I was dithering about posting this, because I was uncertain exactly how many people here would ever have played Crysis, or remember the controversy at the time about its demands on people's computer systems. Maybe more might have encountered the fairly recent Cyberpunk game, and it's weighty performance requirements. Given the debates regarding the newest contender for the top cause of hasty systems upgrades, MSFS, I thought some might find this article topical. There may never be another Crysis moment for PC gaming

A couple of you who might read this already know this Our son, Eric, has been missing for about three years now. We just stopped hearing from him. He lived in Flagstaff, Arizona. He used to call us once month and we got Mother's Day and Father's Day and birthday cards and he used to come home for Christmas now and then. We reported him missing with the Flagstaff Police Department. We got a call from the Flagstaff Police Department. They think they have found him. They found his Jeep with a lot of his stuff in it in a remote part of the Kaibab National Forest. Nearby they found some skeletal remains. The detective said there was no evidence of foul play. …

I came across this article about this 2014 incident, and I figured you fellas would like it: https://bangshift.com/bangshiftxl/man-australia-arrested-driving-wingless-plane-bar-favorite-news-story-ever/ The article says it's a Beechcraft (Skipper) but I'm thinking that's a Piper Tomahawk. Anyway, wild story.

The police defined a "nefarious" maneuver, the one that on Tuesday 23 August created panic along the motorway in Genoa. (Italy) A truck, just before a tunnel, made a U-turn. A crazy maneuver that was repeated a few hours later by a car. The driver was stopped by the road patrols. For him, the immediate withdrawal of his license and a fine of 8 thousand euros and the detention of the truck for 3 months were triggered. The same fate befell the man behind the wheel of the car. Fortunately, the two maneuvers did not cause accidents. The two crazy maneuvers in this video:
