  2. I like to hand fly the PMDG 738 until 10,000 feet AGL but have been using TO/GA. I don't think is the way it's done so I'm checking if anyone knows. Is it typically avoided, TO/GA at takeoff in this scenario, then autothrottle is engaged when enabling autopilot?

And these guys print fairly flat, no ribbed look. 10,000 square feet, impressive. 👍 And only 7 people. I'm thinking with a bit more development they'll be printing these structures totally flat.

Our oldest daughter gave us a unique Christmas present this year. It's difficult for a couple in their 80s to keep a 2200sqft house clean. A lot of things get neglected like the windows and dusting hard to reach spots. Our daughter had a pair of professional house cleaners come in and thoroughly clean our house. It took them two days. Everything is now spotless...even the windows. I had them skip my computer office because it's like Fibber McGee's closet and I know where everything is. I didn't want it straightened out. It was much appreciated...a lot more than the ubiquitous package of goodies from Swiss Colony half of which never gets eaten (who …

Hi, im just a Sim Pilot but i wonder how common it is that VFR cloud clearance gets violated? In the Simulator I already find it hard to fly VFR without getting close (maybe to close) to clouds when it is not a complete clear day. How is it in real life? Is it something that happens all the time and nobody cares as long as there is no accident? Would a VFR pilot in real life go out of his way to avoid clouds even if this means a detour and some maneuvers? Or would he just fly through that one cloud because in the end nobody cares? I would like to know how this is handled in real life by real VFR pilots.

  8. US government scientists have made a breakthrough in the pursuit of limitless, zero-carbon power by achieving a net energy gain in a fusion reaction for the first time, according to three people with knowledge of preliminary results from a recent experiment. A major announcement is scheduled to take place at LLNL on Tuesday, Dec. 13. It's expected to be livestreamed by the Department of Energy at approximately 7 a.m. PT. https://www.cnet.com/science/climate/a-fusion-energy-breakthrough-major-announcement-expected-from-us-scientists/

I have always felt that it would be a good idea to have two flight simulation programs; one for jet airliners exclusively and one for GA alone. It seems the flight sim community is, to a great extent, divided into two groups based on this fundamental preference. Although I am exclusively a GA enthusiast with no interest in jetliners, I know there are many whose preference is the just the opposite. There is a world of difference between simulating the flight of a plane and simulating the programming of a plane to fly itself. The efforts to combine both into one sim have, IMHO, been the source of unnecessary complexity and instability (bugs) in the flight sim exper…

Heard about this earlier on the news and was expecting worse, more of an auger in type crash. Fortunately it was only a slight crash if you could even call it that, but the pilot did eject, while the aircraft was on the ground and was ok. Attached is a video of the incident, but couldn’t figure out how to embed it. Guess the pilot decided to get out before the spinning got worse or the aircraft flipped upside down. Good example of a zero-zero ejection seat being used. https://twitter.com/cbs11doug/status/1603466654704406530?s=20&t=t4VgmHajeftROvoVyKpYbQ Post Edit- updated link

Honestly..I feel for simming, we would do so much better if Xplane, MSFS and Aerofly FS would do dual G5s and a GTN750/650 native panel then the G1000s. Instead we have to rely on 3rd parties to give us a great GPS/Comm/Nav/Xponder like the GTN series and for the six pack, two G5s seem way better than the G1000s. Yes you lose the engine gauges but really aren't steam gauges easier to see in a sim?

  15. This might be related to the soccer thread that's going on now. A couple friends and I were discussing this over e-mails yesterday and I found what might be the answer to why it took Roger Bannister so long to break the 4 minute and now it's routinely broken, even by highschoolers. It's the same reason today's automobiles go faster, accelerate faster, and get better gas mileage than the cars we drove in our younger days and why todays airliners fly faster and higher than those airliners like the DC-6s and L1049G Siper Connies some of us were passengers on. In a word it's technology. I found this interesting article on modern athletes. https://cre…

  16. Hello everyone. Is it there a way to purchase just a month's worth of just navdata? I mean, there is the €9 pack with charts, navdata and flight planner, but I don't need all of this: I still have FSBuild and Simbrief for flight planning, and Aivlasoft EFB for the charts (after some recommendations from people here). The last time I flew online was 15 years (and 13 rigs) ago, so I don't need the latest ones (if not for that, the €30 yearly option could work for me). Any ideas before biting the bullet?

Betty and I went to the mall this afternoon to pick an envelope from the Christmas Tree for a gift for an underprivileged child. We do this every year. This year was different for me. Normally I pick out an envelope, open it, and there is sex and age of the child and pretty specific of what he or she wants. This one was from a 6-year-old girl who wanted, "Something I can hug." That choked me up. Almost teared me up. I can hardly imagine a 6-year-old little girl who needs something to hug. I thought of my two great granddaughters and great grandson and the grand Christmas they will be celebrating. We sent them each a subscription to a children's monthly ac…

I have not been out to our airport in years and I had no idea this project was being developed. I don't know if our aliens are helping out or not. https://www.cbsnews.com/video/floating-an-idea-to-improve-internet-connections/ This guy gets almost no coverage at all (at least I never heard of him before), I had to play the clip twice to even find out his name (Mikkel Vestergaard). His whole family is dedicated to global health issues, and as the clip brings out, their money goes where their mouth is. We could use a lot more people like him and his family as opposed to our publicity seeking billionaires. Noel

Or just as likely another spanner in the works and being rolled back to the Vehicle Assembly Building for a new warp coil. 16th. 1:04 EST is blast off. 6:04 in the proper time, GMT. Weather is 90% Favorable. A huge explosion, or a successful launch and a trip around the Moon. We shall see.

Yet another bicycle message. In the 1880s, the Ordinary (in the U.K. Penny Farthing) was the best form of land transportation over reasonable roadbeds on the planet. You could go further and faster than on horseback. And upkeep was minimal (no food, no fence, no pasture). (EDIT: I should have said personal transportation, because the railroad had arrived earlier which meant most people would at some point in their lives actually leave the county or shire into which they were born. If they lived near the center of the county). What I liked best about Thomas Stevens book (1888) was his receptions in very remote areas where people knew little of the world. In India…
