Greetings Editors!A year has now passed since the incredible & complex Orbiter Space sim was added to your list of supported Simulators. The curious things is that on Martin Schweiger's home site, he proudly claims (& it is still there) the following:"December 3, 2002 The new release of Orbiter is front-page news on AVSIM.com - with a full review to follow later this week. Orbiter is now an official AVSIM partner, and in addition to the add-on file repository, AVSIM are hosting a mirror for the full Orbiter distribution. "He mentions a FULL review!? It follows that he must have been told this by someone within AVSIM Management, for Martin to feel it worth mentionin…

AVSIM Gods,Firstly, hope you're all keeping well. I was wondering if a UK Flight Simmers forum would be a possibility? The forum would serve as a central meeting place for UK aviation enthusiasts in which we could discuss the various UK events for both simulated and real aviation. Furthermore, I'd even like to moderate such a forum, my forum knowledge has grown from maintaining and moderating the FlightCraft forum and I am possitive that such a forum would be a fantastic addition to AVSIM and a useful resource for many simmers.Regards,Adam Nardone

I'm guessing that it would make sense, at least for a while, to create an FS2004 forum. There are quite a few folks out there who are not going to move to COF for a while anyway, and I'm not sure they want/need to wade through all the FSCOF posts to get to their 2K2 items. I'm betting the post volume would more than justify it...there are going to be gazillion COF posts, especially come the 29th when "the rest of us" get the packages...Just a thought...Dave

  4. I have been holding off pre-ordering FS2004 through Avsim - Full Retail price never gets me very excited but on the other hand I do want to support the Avsim effort and its fine staff. So tonight I broke down and decided to try to The Right Thing... I enter my info, I get to the credit card part - and then I click on the "what's this?" button regarding the credit card CVD number or whatever it's called. I read that info, and then I click the "Close This Window" button like an idiot - BAM the browser THAT HAD ALL OF MY ENTERED DATA is gone and I have to enter it again. Apparently in Internet Explorer that button results in a pop-up but it didn't for me... I'm running Netsca…

Seems time that simeone gets in touch with this Provantage outfit for advertising...based on the rather massive thread in the MSFS forum, seems there is a bunch of business headed their way due to this site (much to Tom's chagrin I'm sure!)I'd send them a copy of the thread just to show them, albeit inadvertantly, the marketing power of AvSim forums...Just a thought...Dave

I found it informative but his complaint buffles me. Why would a product that tries to improve weather had to provide weather radar as well ? Isn't it a bit of a stretch ? I heard rumors Reality-XP could be embarking on a weather radar simulation project - and this would be logical - it is the avionics companies that make weather radars not the weather man ... *:-*Michael J.

A couple of years ago I marked that files were my primary reason for coming here on an old survey. I must now confess I come to read the articles. I know, I know... "I just want it for the articles." But in this particular case it has become true. So fret not that your articles are not being read. *grin*

The crunch question for all us Fsim addicts is 2004 compatibility. The payware companies are already announcing which of their products are or will be OK. But for most of us, the bulk of our aircraft and scenery is freeware. So how do we keep track of what will work or will need a patch or is being rewritten? May I suggest that Avsim creates a special department or forum where the freeware developers can keep us in touch?

  9. Are there still copies of FS2004 available for shipping on the release date? (I assume that Tom does not have 500 copies on a pallet in his basement, but rather that you drop ship items?). :)Given the embargo on sales of FS2004 until the official release date, is that the date that Fs2004 would be shipped? Thanks, I apologize if I'm in the wrong forum :) .Bruce.

The Antonov AN-124 is available in the AVSIM library (FS2000) under the filename of antonovan-124.zip and it seems to work quite well in FS2002, although you will need to search for a panel (I'm currently using the default 747-400 panel).Bear!

Good afternoon, I wonder if you folks monitor any of the FS related Forums? There are a number of them so it is possible that you simply don't have the time. If you take a peak at the Captain Sim forum I think you might be somewhat amazed at what is really going on in that forum. It is, undoubtedly, simply a sales pitch for Captain Sim's upcoming releases. That in itself is no big issue but in almost all cases the Captain Sim Support Group simply does not respond to any question clearly intended for them. Yet, this is the forum that Captain Sim claims is the proper place for asking questions that need responses from Captain Sim. If one asks a question via ema…

I have been noticing the increasing number of people registered for the AvSim Forum system and the fact that this has now gone over the 10,000 mark.A hearty congratulations to Tom and all the staff. Not only is this evidently the best flight simulator enthusiasts site, but it is also the most pleasant place to visit. The library is fast and easy to access, the news are up-to-date, without a doubt, AvSim is the tops. Thanks to you all.Best regards.Luis

Don't want to start a flame, or anything like that, I just have a curious question. Say if, Payware R Us wants to show and upcoming aircraft/product It can only be shown in the Commerical Products Preview fourm. And IAW this http://forums.avsim.com/dcboard.php?az=sho...36995&mode=full. How are MSFS:COF Beta testers / press release version holders / gold version holders, able to post pics all over the fourms? Shouldn't the rules apply to ALL Commerical Vendors, or do only certian commerical vendors, have to stick with the "rules"Again, I as much as everyone else enjoy the MSFS:COF screens, and any info about the product. Just wondering why the rules don't appl…

    1. Would it be possible to put a "last updated" clock on each page? I do a lot of surfing and I never know whether I'm getting a cached or current page. A "last updated on ..." clock would let me know so I don't have to hit Refresh just to make sure. If other users also feel compelled to refresh this could save you some bandwidth.2. Is it so hard to write you an email? I found an update for your library and I just wanted to let you know where to find it. I had to post a public message (much as I am doing now) to let you know it was there. You still don't seem to have seen it because no one has replied (after about a week) and the update isn't posted.Otherwise (and t…

Didn't know who to approach on this, so I'll give this forum a try.Is there any possibility that the Avsim store would be willing to take orders for and distribute freeware scenery sets for Fly!II if customers covered all of your costs? One of the great things we have going in Fly!II is Todd Klaus' TerraScene program. The sceneries generated are quite beautiful and very realistic - the problem is their excessive size. If those of us who were creating these sceneries were to upload them (complete) to the Avsim File Library, each global tile of scenery would average 390 MB! To get around this, most TerraScene sceneries have been uploaded as project packs (averaging 80 MB). …

Thank you Steve Cartwright for your excellent Tribute to FS2002, but in particular the section Part 3: FS2002 for 1940-1946. As many have remarked, the screenshots were first class, but the text relating to World War II was of special interest to me. I think you have done a remarkable job of weaving a diverse set of stories into a short, coherent and informative article, a very fine job of journalism indeed.I did find what I think amounts to two typos and one error of fact however. The British ship the Bismarck sank was HMS Hood, not RMS Hood and the Swordfish that scored a hit on the Bismarck

Hello everyone!I don't know about you but the use of an FMC not only adds to the realism of flying but also adds a touch of authenticity. We all own Dreamfleet 737 (don't we)?Is it possible that we can have within the forums a dedicated group that can share knowledge, experience, flight plans and much moreThe inclusion of the great FMC's offered by Dreamflight, Eurowings and PSS offer us all a really important and real way of controlling our flights. It seems crazy that the majority of aircraft uploads do not take account of the great tool that has been made available to us.Maybe I've missed something but aircraft that are offered (under IFR)for download that do not includ…
