Raptor Lake - Smooth MSFS performance

Yup. I'm getting 23fps at payware KLAX with AI traffic and the Fenix. That's with my 12900KF overclocked to 5.1 on the P-cores. I could probably get it up to 5.3 but not sure if it would make a huge difference. Running Cinebench and the core temps went straight up to 90-100 degrees, so there's not much headroom, even with 2x360mm radiatiors.

My god that's wretched!

it appears my hunch was correct: AND still MSFS champion 5800x3d

By 88 FPS vs 90.

In all other games the 13900k is better. But ok.

For gaming the 13xxx is the king, it is what it is.

The 1 percent lows are also higher with the 5800X3d in that run vs whatever other benchmark chart that was shown earlier in this thread.

For other games .. I have an Xbox series X collecting dust. MSFS is what my rig was built for so this is still the processor to get on my last gen platform.

Pretty impressive--runs with a lot lower power as well.

Is the ~45FPS supposed to be the selling point on this, or the herky jerky animation I see everywhere?

I'm not trying to sell anything with these videos Noel 🙂 There's actually no hidden agenda. I'm just sharing them hoping they might provide some info for other simmers. And btw someone asked me if I could post a video with the Fenix at KLAX...

7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5

No way would I ever use a CPU that power hungry, my god.

[MSI MPG X870E Carbon | 9800X3D (PBO +200Mhz / -20 Offset) | Corsair 64GB DDR5 (Custom Timings) | RTX 4090 Founders Edition (Undervolted) | WD SNX 850X 4TB + 4TB | Antec Flux Pro]

So, the 13900 is end of line, and uses way more power just to get a few more fps. That’s a very big negative I take from the recent reviews.

I am about to buy a completely new system by the end of this year. I am not a hardware guru and some arguments in this thread flow back and forth over my head. Notably, I never bought an AMD-based system during the last 30 years but might make the switch... perhaps.

Could some kind soul compile a summary (maybe to be pined) of agreed statements which chips work best with MSFS, their approximate cost, if/when they are expected to be available, what cooling they require, if there is a later upgrade path etc.?

It's certainly all scattered here and elsewhere but I just can't digest it in raw form with a lot of dispute.

A very warm thank you.

Kind regards, Michael

this is an MSFS forum isnt it? I buy the chip for this exclusively as do probably most.

I saw something somewhere about limiting the power to 90 watts TDP on the 13900, with hardly any penalty, but I have lost the quote / thread somewhere.  Seems incredible, but I would love to give it a go on my 12900 - it runs so hot.

The Ryzen 9 7950X3D will be king late January/ early February. That’s what I’m doing my upgrade with. 13900k won’t stand a chance. And also, less heat in my room!

Bring on the 7000 series X3D. That is what I am building for the future.

Sure I know.  I'd like to see the same video on your old 3090--did you ever do something very similar?
