Raptor Lake - Smooth MSFS performance

Featured Replies

@Ianrivaldosmith When you get your brand spanking new 7950x rig, can you test out the same or similar scenario as @Cpt_Piett did in the below video. This would be a nice comparison (although compared with 12900k paired with a 4090 but still). And also report on smoothness in CPU heavy scenarios?

The Ryzen 9 7950X3D will be king late January/ early February. That’s what I’m doing my upgrade with. 13900k won’t stand a chance. And also, less heat in my room!

not yet decided who will reign as King next year and get anointed next spring, definitely NOT Raptor lake, that is only a stop gap until Q1-2023: Intel's next generation Meteor Lake, based on the new 7 nm node, finally. or AMD 7950X3D based on the latest TSMC's 6/7 nm fabrication process.

Raptor lake is out of the race, outdated old 10 nm node (though Intel calls it: Intel 7) and therefore runs less efficient and way too hot.

My outdated 9900K runs at around 48-54C in MSFS at 5.0gHz.  Whoopdeedoodahday.

Is the ~45FPS supposed to be the selling point on this, or the herky jerky animation I see everywhere?

If Asobo would just figure out how to have a dynamic terrain LOD from the ground up to 2,500 feet AGL we could all use reasonably priced CPUs.

so does mine.

what about 45-55 fps at 4K/VR at iniBuilds KLAX, tons  of RealTraffic, Fenix.

still "Whoopdeedoodahday" ?

Sir, how would you like your double Whoopdeedoodahday-burger? with 96 MB X3D cache or without?

The rhetorical was about HEAT and 10nm node.  I could care less about 60FPS I'm 1000% smooth/stutter-free focused and I have that already.  Won't be using VR anytime soon.

Thats my current chip until my AMD upgrade. You running DX11 or DX12 with those temps?

Either, same temps essentially.  Flying into KSMF right now w/ temp 47 to 52C.

We can all sit at a gate and lower the TLOD to 50 and never need a bigger processor.

Yup. I'm getting 23fps at iniBuild's KLAX with AI traffic and the Fenix @ TLOD150. That's with my 12900KF overclocked to 5.1 on the P-cores. I could probably get it up to 5.3 but not sure if it would make a huge difference. Running Cinebench and the core temps went straight up to 90-100 degrees, so there's not much headroom, even with 2x360mm radiators. And the 13900K runs even hotter.

This is exactly my "issue" now: do I go, like others did, for a "cheap" solution with an AM5 board paired with a R5 7600X with the potential to switch to the 7xxxX3D as soon as they arrive and even further, as AMD will support AM5 up to 2025, or do I go for Intel with the raptor lake setup and the need to replace everything completely the next time I want to do an upgrade? Although decision seems easy, it is somehow not...

Tough time for those who are looking to upgrade their CPU, yes. Jay agrees with you: "This might be the hardest decision for consumers to make regarding CPU in terms of performance that we have seen in like 20 years".

I think he has a point. And - for now the 7950x is a lot more expensive at almost 700USD vs the 13900K at $589. With the 13900K it's backwards compatible with z690 mb's and can be paired with DDR4, whereas the 7950X can only be paired with DDR5.

Amazingly I had 30 fps in the MV C310 in the payware KLAX with the traffic program running and was silky smooth, I'm very grateful.

Gaming not a problem with heat just a good cooler needed for the CPU it`s the GPU when you need very good case cooling.

Note the CPU temps in games on par with AMD.

My [email protected] is air-cooled w/ a Noctua.  But the caveat is it is fed w/ cool air from my basement, so my CPU and case deal w/ ambient temps even in summer of around 62F, and in winter maybe 56F.
