So torn..... It seems probably better to go AMD 7900X DDR5 and maybe wait for the 4800 16GB and you have an upgrade path but you will pay upfront for that option or 13600/13700 forget the 13900 and maybe go DDR4 and say it will give you 3 years of good performance... I am still on a 6700K 1070GTX at 3840 x 1440 so I need to have a change... I do hope we get a few more videos of the Fenix at EGLL or KLAX with the different processors... My montor is 60Hz so if I could get 60FPS that would be the dream...

Hold off, I’ll be reporting on a 7950X with 4090 very soon…

I'll do a PMDG 738 at FT's KLAX video just for contrast after I get done w/ this flight only there won't be numbers, just visuals.

Performance was essentially flawless thru all views, pushback thru takeoff and beyond, but video capture at a high resolution was a bit hard to pull off on the same 9900K, so posting the video will not show how smooth it truly was.

Good to hear. I've been having similar issues with video capture - just puts too big of a load on the system. Digital Foundry talks about some of these challenges - basically an external capture card is needed. Still going for the upgrade though?

Hey Noel, you and I have pretty much the same system spec's other than I have a 3090, 64GB of ram and on a 50" LG 4K TV for a monitor. What are you using for TLOD, OLOD, Render Scaling? Most of your settings on Ultra? And you on DX11 or 12 and with TAA or DLSS? Thanks

Yep I saw it in your video so it's really not possible to demonstrate the smooth I see w/o a video capture card or separate PC to record on.   With lesser planes I do get totally smooth capture which is amazing in itself.

It's tempting to upgrade my CPU but when push comes to shove it's mostly about being able to move TLOD from 100 to what, maybe 150, or 200 when in PMDG planes and quite frankly the visual difference between 100 and 200 is just hardly worth talking about IMO, and of course RT online traffic costs considerable CPU loading.  What I have realized in my recent troubleshooting rituals is that PMDG 738 plus RT online traffic DO exert a bigger impact on this CPU, more than I had appreciated.  But geez out of KLAX last evening near 100% flawless animation at TLOD of 100.  So I will keep an eye on Ian's new mega build w/ the 7950.  Cooling matters for me a lot but I'm sure 13900K will be totally fine even w/ air cooling.  I think there is some hope according to stuff mentioned here that RTX 3000 series GPU will benefit some from DLSS 3, so that would be icing on the cake. In fact right now I'm seeing 41% utilization in dense clouds, I've yet to see over 8.4Gb of VRAM in use ever even in the most complex scenarios via DevMode's OSD.  I think it's plausible Nvidia will throw this bone out to those who spent a lot of cash on RTX 3080/3090 and make DLSS 3 somewhat capable if so we're all in for a real treat.  I certainly wouldn't mind solid smooth at 40FPS but honestly solid 30FPS is amply fine for my needs.

All settings on fully maxed out no matter what the slider is, 8x8, 16x, TAA, OLOD 200, TLOD 100 at KLAX in that plane, and DX12.  Render scaling I had set at 120-140 but noticed a subtle vibration/stutter associated with it so went back to 100, but do use NV's DL of 2.25 w/o sharpening.  A better CPU is possible though so I look forward to Ian's 7950 or anyone's 13900K this will make a very big difference for me, and won't be a big expense or hassle to upgrade.  Even so, the argument for going there is fairly weak, for me.  I do know this:  in my recent debacle of troubleshooting for the past week I've not scored nearly as well in my flights in A Pilot's Life v2!  Too much attention towards performance trivia and for 2y I had gotten away from that obsession and enjoyed the heck out of flying!

Yup, curious about his build too. Let's hope for his sake that he gets it this week 🙂I think air should be fine unless you're planning on running Cinebench for hours. And btw you've got cool autumn air from the basement, right?

I think it would be unfair of nVidia not to offer this to the whole RTX-series eventually. There's the issue with the specific hardware on the RTX4000-series though, but as I've vaguely read, people have been able to enable DLSS3 on other cards as well.

It's a fine balance, for sure. I opted out of the beta for now as I was getting problems left, right and centre. For two days I've been enjoying the sim without checking the fps counter or CPU or GPU usage 🙂 Well, I might have checked it once or twice, but it was related to a post I did on the latest iniBuild's update. No DLSS3 though, as the beta is required.

And this is typical for me--this in the AS CRJ700, lots of RT online traffic, total smooth performance not a hitch from touchdown to gate or should I say from gate to gate though KAUS isn't real hard on hardware.  TLOD 150 for this flight and it could have been much higher but quite frankly I'd hardly notice the difference anyway.

Right now this system is very, very adequate to deliver everything visually that Ian will be sampling soon, save the frame rate, which is what it is.  I can easily imagine the following coming to pass:

  • NV will officially implement some level of DLSS 3 for the peons out there who blew their wad on the last "gotta have it" which was for me 3080Ti.  It's been a very good choice for my 3440x system.  When this happens we will get even more out of our 3000 series GPUs.
  • Asobo will continue to work on optimizing the current DX12 beta and this may free up more VRAM though I never get near using all 12Gb I already have.  This will help CPU and GPU.  The 3080Ti still looks very well matched to 13900K/7900X in this context, especially at 3440x1440.  I'll not go to 4K perhaps ever for the 40% increase in load I don't see it for me.
  • Perhaps someone will do the Dynamic Optimizer which would all but obviate the need for even a new CPU!  It helps to be happy 1440p ultra wide.

Yes, I have a standard floor register that my Phanteks Ensoo Pro FT sits directly on top of, with its floor fans being fed by either ambient air from the basement during fall/winter/spring, but in the hot part of the year that air comes from our A/C system I connect the end of a duct that normally is capped to the floor register.  This means very cool air is fed into the case at point blank range and of course the entire case w/ its contents are cooled.  It's literally a cool idea and costs nothing.  I used to get very hot in summer until I put the register in the floor under my PC desk but now it stays cool even w/o the A/C because ambient basement air even in summer is around 60F.  The Phenteks is the ideal case for this.  Oh, and turns out 4090 fits in it though I don't see one in my future any time soon.

Same where I'm at, there's usually no need for aircondition in the summer. I did get a unit a few years ago due to unusually high temps - it's been gathering dust ever since. Nowadays as the ambient temps are going down the PC provides amble heating 🙂

7900x and Strix 4090 here.

Playing on 3440x1440 everything on high with TLD 100.

EGKK with Vatsim and Fenix: arround 50-60fps.

But the same scenario with DLSS3 and 1,5 scale: 100-120fps. A real gamechanger for MSFS.

At the moment 22H2 is a problem and throttles the CPU a lot.
