Hi all, Been following this forum for a while - I'm pretty much ready to purchase a VR headset, and was almost going to get the Rift but am now considering importing the Odyssey - would welcome thoughts on that and whether there's much noticeable improvement in resolution? But my main query relates to the fact that in my current P3D 4.2 setup I use a 2nd PC for weather, VATSIM, flight planning etc.. - and suddenly realised that in a VR world I can't see that monitor!! So, how have others dealt with this? Is it a case of using FlyInside where I believe you can dock a window into the sim (which could be TeamViewer of the other PC if you get me?) Any advice …

  2. Hi, Not a huge deal, but it's a bit strange to see that Milky Way closer to you than the stars. Can anyone confirm experiencing the same in P3D ? I am using FlyInside with FSX:SE and Rift

Hopefully this will be a comprehensive review of the HP Windows mixed reality headset from the point of view of a long-term PC VR “Simmer”. I only briefly touch upon the controllers as the main focus of this review is the headset itself for PC simulation. Who the hell am I? I am a PC simmer who mixes their time between Driving in Assetto Corsa, Flying in P3D (v4 with all the Orbx trimmings) and Elite Dangerous. I have been using the Oculus Rift CV1 since it first came out and I had the DK2 for some time before that. I have never touched a Vive, so during this review I can only directly reference the Rift for comparison purposes. Why did I choose the HP WMR?…

  7. Hi all, I thought I would post my experiences with the Samsung Odyssey and FlyInside. I know that when I was researching, there wasn't much in the way of information about the Odyssey and its performance in the flight sim world. So here is my general impression and stats. First off, the Odyssey has been flawless for me. However, the setup was a little confusing at first. After you set up the Windows Mixed Reality headset on the system there are a few more steps you have to do to get flying. You have to have Steam VR and the Windows Mixed Reality plugin for Steam VR for any of this to work. This will enable FlyInside to get rolling. I primarily fly in Prepar3d v4…

  12. Hi all, Just got my hands on an Oculus rift to try out. I'm hoping to get a few hours in P3Dv4.1 before I have to return it. I've gotten VR to work and the cockpits looks awesome as does the scenery from above, however while taxiing, it seems like the grass polygon in sunken by a few feet. The tarmac and taxiways appear normal, and objects like 3D grass, signs and lights seem to be floating over the grass surface below. Any thoughts what might be causing this? Other games seem to be working fine (including IL2-BoS which is stunning in VR!). I'm running P3D v4.1 and the latest oculus home software (1.9?), latest nVidia drivers. I do have a ton of addons ins…

  13. As a quick background, I should say that I have been using an Oculus Rift for about 1 year and a half and flying almost exclusively in VR in P3D, XP11 and DCS. While I am very happy with the current experience, I was really intrigued with the launch of Windows Mixed Reality Devices, especially the Samsung Odyssey, currently one of the HMDs with highest resolution available (same res. as the incoming Vive Pro). The usual price for the Odyssey is US$ 499,00, but the headset is currently available for US$ 399,00. I would have bought the Odyssey much earlier actually, but I was waiting for it to be released in Europe. Considering that it is still no available in my count…

  17. I know that this has been a problem at times and it seems like this might have become worse recently for P3Dv4.1 - maybe after I asked for the Shaders to be recompiled - not sure?? The problem is that the sun reflection (the shine on the water in the direction of a low sun - not an actual reflection of clouds or terrain or...) is out of stereo balance (your eyes cannot focus) in VR mode so your eyes cannot focus on the water (I have tried various quality levels in Graphics Options). All other elements of the scene look fine. Sorry if this has been reported elsewhere I am using Rift, Nvidia 388.71, Windows 10 Thanks Dave W.

I've been an Avsim man for years and have found it very useful. I've looked in various forums for help on this subject and can't find answers so here goes with a new topic concerning virtual reality. I'm interested in the Lenovo Explorer (let's call it LE for brevity) because it looks like a very considerable advance on what I've got at the moment. This is a two year old PC with an I7 processor and a GTX 980 graphics card and enough of the required features (I think) needed to run the LE. It links to 3 HD displays and gives me ~25 FPS on FSX. It simulates a helicopter with the 'portrait' central display giving me the full control panel and the view below including pe…

With all the buzz about the VR performance increases in Prepar3D V4.2 I now find myself once again considering one of the two go to VR headsets. I am sure I am not the only one. If you have experience with both VR headsets please answer question 1 in the poll. If you have experience with one or both please answer question 2. And so on! If you don't have the requisite experience please do not skew the poll by completing it based on unsubstantiated opinion. And if you complete the poll please add you comments. If you have no experience with VR feel free to ask questions but please do not ruin the thread by offering opinions about VR in Prepar3D unless you have actually exp…
