I am using FSX with FlyInside on the Oculus Rift with an overclocked i7 4790K and GTX1080ti. As so many others, I love the experience but would like to optimise the graphics. What settings can be tweaked in the fsx_Flyinside.cfg file, and Is there any improvement to be made using Nvidia Inspector or the Nvidia Control Panel ? If so, would this be applied to fsx_Flyinside.cfg or OculusClient.exe ? Dave.

After having extended its $399 price offer for an additional two weeks due to the explosion of demand, Oculus is closing its summer sale with a final fanfare of deals on games, as well as the headset. Last chance for those dithering on the edge of a decision! https://www.roadtovr.com/oculus-rift-end-of-summer-game-sale-discount-2017/

I got the Oculus Rift for the $399 at Best Buy, which included Valkyrie and some other games and I am loving the experience in P3D v4. I have been able to use PTA and nice HDR settings and the view is stunning. The experience of actually sitting in the cockpit of a PMDG aircraft (or other quality aircraft) simply cannot be explained. Getting the engines running and taking off for the first time is breathtaking and flying around with REX, Active Sky, Orbx, and PTA is just something to behold. Literally words cannot describe the experience. I did have a Rift last year on v3 (and FSX), but it just was not good enough, so I returned the the Rift, but for me with v4, it is jus…

Hello there. I have been using the Rift with Flyinside for about 2 and half months now. It is amazing and even though I have adjusted to the resolution, of course I would like to have something better. Well, I just found out this VR headset for 273 Euro coming from China. The specs are really impressive: Outstanding 4K UHD image, 3840 x 2160P resolution, 8.29MP, 806 PPI Prevents your eyesight from the harm of blue laser, with auto light adjustment system and auto demisting system Adopts 1000Hz dual gyroscope, reduce the dizzy sensation effectively 110 degree FOV, dual 53mm large aspherical optical lens Built-in 1000Hz gyroscope, accelera…

  6. As we all know , coffee lake architecture is ready to release in October with 6 Core 12 Thread, which is named in i7-8700K. Compared to i7-4790k(4 Core 8 Thread),is it necessary to take i7-8700K instead of i7-4790K to get more improvement for P3D V4,especially in complex scenery and PMDG running condition? And how about i5-8600K?(6 Core 6Thread) Thanks for your suggestion. Yang.

  8. For those having a bit of difficulty reading small gauges in VR, and if you are using FlyInside, you can make the cockpit just a little bit larger than life size by decreasing the world scale. I did this in the Dreamfoil Bell 407 helicopter by changing the world scale to 90% rather than 100%, this makes the cockpit just a bit larger and the small gauges on the 407 are all readable. I have a I7 6850K and GTX 1080, all stock no overclock, although the 6850 K runs natively at 3.75 MHz instead of the stated 3.6 MHz, so I guess it is in a sense a small overclock. Anyway at those settings, in the Los Angeles Basin I get a solid 25/94 fps as reported by FlyInside, that is with m…

  10. Guys, I´m starting to think seriously about upgrading my PC. Actually I have a i7 4770K at 3.5 GHz with a 980ti and 16Gb of Ram. I fly only on VR (P3D v4) and I`m quite happy in small addon airports where I get 25-40 fps with a Carenado CJ2 and GTN 750. Since I love photo scenery I put autogen in sparse and it helps, so no need to put all these graphics options to the right (get steady 40fps during flight). In busy airports it goes from 18-25 fps with a lot of those annoying micro stutters (which are linked to those low fps). I use 1.7 pixel density so I can read the instruments without leaning too much on them. And as many in this forum alread…

  11. Started by Muskoka,

Received my Rift bundle yesterday (3 days from order to my door, Bestbuy Canada) and immediately purchased Flyinside for Xplane, one word....wow, ok, maybe a few more. Visuals are nice, not great, but I knew that going in. But, graphics aside, the sensation you get/feel in all aspects of flight is just stunning. There's no describing the feeling really, you need to experience it. Like others have said, I'd have a real tough time going back to a 2d world, the immersion is that impressive. Touch controllers are working great, but with my yoke, rudder pedals, and the mouse very handy, I kinda prefer the blue dot interaction, it works very well. I've just been flying the defa…

  12. Started by DeeGee,

I am using P3D V3.4 plus Oculus Rift recently updated with latest software. I have Flyinside and ORBX scenery. Control is via a Saitek stick and throttle. The system was working fine but is now crashing on start up at the point where the P3D splash screen comes up. There was no obvious reason for the sudden problem as all I did was reprogram a few Saitek settings. I've managed to troubleshoot. If I disconnect the OR, P3D will boot up. If I then reconnect the OR and reinstall Flyinside it will stay running. I have tried Flyinside V1.8 and 1.81 but no difference. Can anyone offer suggestions on causes and how to work out a fix?

Is it just me?, I feel the only thing missing from p3d 4 to make it complete is Flyinside. That is what brought me back into non combat flightsimming to begin with, and I really miss it. I hope we hear something soon from Daniel.

  16. As I've been missing Fly Inside for v4 I wanted to give the default vr a shot. I noticed when I flip to vr mode in the rift it seems the eyes are not in sync. One eye is either looking in one direction while the other eye looks in another direction. Obviously this isn't usable. Any ideas what may be wrong?

  18. Started by HiFlyer,

So I've had the Oculus for a while, and yes, we know it's a great thing, the cats meow, etc. But kind of a wire hassle, huh? The touch controllers are wireless of course, but unless you're keeping them in the original storage case (I'm not nearly that neat and organized, sorry) they can tend to get underfoot, fall off the edge of your computer desk or etc, whereupon they may get curiously sniffed by your doggies as potential food items or chew treats...... So how to keep them available, but out of the way? Seems other people have thought about this and a quick visit to Amazon and other places finds a few mostly 3D printed solutions, but I wanted something I…

If you're a fan of the old EF2000 and Domark Harrier games should check this out. It's based on a fictional VTOL aircraft in the near future. It's early access, and has no multi-player yet. It works on both Rift and Vive with tracked controllers (I have Rift+Touch) Even though the graphics are extremely spartan, and the flight model is a little twitchy, and it doesn't support any HOTAS (or any joystick)- I fell in love with it. Basically, the controls are so easy, you will have no problem. Using the Touch as your joystick and throttle takes a little getting used to- but it's second nature to me now. Flicking switches and turning dials (The cockpit is 100% intera…

  20. Love it, I don't see why folks think it's so poor in resolution, headsets and cellphones are nothing compared to OR, I am amazed. One? Does it stay in sleep mode all the time you are not using it? Will it hurt to store it in the case while plugged in? Stays a little warm. Can I turn it off in task manager? Should I just unplug it and put it in the case when not using? Would I have to put in my standing height again if I did disable it? Thank you.

  21. For the first time, I landed the AT-6 Texan without ground looping, because I am in the cockpit now, and have a "feel" for the plane as opposed to just looking at it. I have soloed a 150 and a Citabria before injuring my neck and have many many hours in a 3 axis parasol ultralight with conventional gear. An RC pilot can get into a real plane and do well, but a real pilot with no RC experience will crash the RC plane and destroy it because there is no "feel" involved, only sight. Now if you are using VR with the camera at the pilots position in the plane it would be easy, if the sensitivity of the controls is dialed back. I a…

  22. The calibration of the vertical and horizontal bars is good, lens spacing is good, but in flight (P3D v4) the cockpit Left lens view is higher than the Right lens. As a result everything is slightly askew, two throttles almost touching, ditto the control yoke, etc. I adjusted the left and right head straps so that the upper strap is vertically aligned with the headset but still the same. Will someone help me get this fixed? Flying is almost perfect but everything is a bit blurred. Thanks for any help Neal Howard

So I've finished my entire hardware setup and I'm ready to install 3rd party add-ons. My first choice on the list is an ATC add on. I have both P3D v3 & v4 and FSX Gold with the acceleration pack. I have been reading about the many different ATC add ons out there such as VATSIM, RADAR CONTACT, PF3, PILOT EDGE etc..... What I want to know is a two fold question. #1) Which ATC add on is the most realistic in regards to true G/A aviation? #2) Is or does the ATC preference provide coverage in my neck of the woods which is the eastern USA (Cleveland Center)? I tried Vatsim a long time ago and what I recall was that it was very (IFR) only supported. Of course th…

  24. Just an informational post for those considering to make the jump to VR: https://www.roadtovr.com/closeup-with-new-cheaper-oculus-rift-touch-bundle-ships-with-improved-foam-padding/ The new bundle is currently on sale for $400 as part of the big Summer of Rift sale. After the limited-time discount, the bundle will be priced at $500, which is $100 cheaper than Oculus was selling the Rift and Touch packaged separately. To achieve that new, lower MSRP, the company had to remove some of what used to come in those two boxes. Here’s what’s in the new Rift + Touch bundle, and what’s not: Included: Rift Touch Controllers Two Sensors Two AA Ba…
