PMDG DC-6 Cloudmaster

Hello DC-6 flyers! After purchasing the DC-6 I started flying across the Caribbean, in nice weather , in order to gain more experience with the aircraft type, and was able to fly several uneventful flights. Then I decided to fly over the ORBX Alaska sceneries. Installed the fantastic Everts livery and off we go. Most of the Caribbean flights were being flown without the aid of the AFE. I was being able to set up the DRY takeoff power setting 52.5" and although the OAT was quite high (ranging between 25 up to 32C) , takeoff CHT's were well within the green range (usually between 190 and 210 C). Cowl flaps were at 3 degrees. During climb, CHT's stayed bel…

Hi. I've some questions about the inverters. The POH seems to describe another inverter-system to the one installed in the PMDG DC-6. In the POH are three switches mentioned for operating the captains, first officers and engine instruments on either the lower or upper inverter. But the DC-6 in the sim seems to have three inverters (No.1, No.2 and one for the engine instruments), where both No.1 and No.2 power both flight instruments sides (capt & f/o) and the third one only for the engine instruments. When turning only one of either No.1 or No.2 inverters on, both flight instruments power failure lights extinguish. I assume that the flight instruments of both…

I was using the DC6 on XP10 (bought soon after release) and when I started using XP11 I simlinked the PMDG folder to test it. It worked well and I forgot about the simlink. I have dropped XP10 entirely now. I was successful at deactivating it on XP10 and then used the uninstaller to remove it. I installed it in the XP11 side but it doesn't come up with an activation window when I load. Other observations: the plugins drop down for the plane are greyed out so I cant select activate the pilot images are in the cockpit I added a hard drive to my system which from my reading may be the issue? I obviously went wrong, like the sim link thing, but ju…

Hi. Over the last couple of days, i have done two training videos on the DC-6 , for those that have not flown it before . The fist video shows my basic FSUIPC setup including how i managed to get 4 throttles set up , and my mods including a checklist i made , and mods to my aircraft.cfg file for the checklist to show and new and modified vc views for my trackIR5. 1/. https://www.twitch.tv/videos/183668264 2/. https://www.twitch.tv/videos/183901900 If PMDG give the go ahead for these mods to be made public then i will let every one know the details. regards alan cottrill.

  6. Good day, I was just wondering if someone could confirm these 2 functions for the PMDG DC6 for P3D. I am well aware of how spark advance works from working on cars (spark ignition before TDC) etc. I couldn't find anything in the POH about when to use? If it is modeled? If I follow the oil dilution procedure before shutdown and then save the flight, will it aid in starting when I load up for the next flight or is this not modeled? Finally, is there a way to set it up every time I load a new DC6, it will automatically load in Cold and Dark? Instead of running. Thanks for the great product. Jordan

Not sure that this is a PMDG problem or not. Yesterday when loading the DC-6, I found that the cockpit was blurry when I moved close to the panels. It seemed that I was not refocusing as I moved closer. IO am running Chaseplane and had asked in their forum also.

Hi, May be a stupid question but, I learned that "The only stupid question is the not made question". When I made a turn, say 30 degrees to the left,, the Gyro Compass turn to the right and, unless they mark the correct heading, the left and right are -seems to me- inverted, and because of made to me make mistakes in flaying a plane with needed great attention in VOR approaches. I supose is correct this mode of beaviour but I do not understand why. Thank you in advance for a explanation. Emilio Casalduero

  10. Hello, I have been experiencing some very weird issues with the DC-6 in P3D V4.1. Every time that I try to interact with the Cockpit Windows, the simulator freezes for about 10-15 seconds and then the Window open/closes. This also happens if I install the Flight 1 GTN Complete and try to interact with the GPS. Anyone experiencing something similar? Thanks

Hi, is anyone else having a problem getting the dc 6 to follow a GPS flight plan using the flight1 gtn? Since updating to P3d 4.1 I can't seem to get the green gps annunciation on the garmin dial to light up. It worked fine yesterday on P3d 4.0. It could of course by my error but I'm not doing anything differently, selecting the cdi to GPS etc

For those interested in flying actual routes flown by DC-6's see the following link: http://www.timetableimages.com/ttimages/complete/complete.htm#USA As I am generally not interested in flight simulation to fly very long haul flights, I have been interested to search out the shorter and mid-range routes. For example, American Airlines had a number of multi-stop DC-6 flights in the northeast (Washington - New York - Boston) and the midwest (New York - to Chicago). Western Airlines (for which we do not seem to have a livery) had a number of mid-range flights on the West Coast (San Diego - Palm Springs - Ontario - Long Beach - LA - Burbank - Oakland - SF - Portla…

Today I filed my first IFR cross country. Was doing find. Departed and started to climb. Tower advised me to contact departure. I had the correct code dialed in and ALT checked. ATC advised me they could not read my squack. I flipped it to ON with no luck. I had the switch and transponder on 1. Finally had to cancel IFR. Tonight I read the intro manual which stated to do as I had done. Both tutorials never mentioned the transponder. I just opened the 6 and set the transponder up. Nothing until I pressed Ident. Then it seemed to work. When I flew we always used the ident button, but since I have been simming, the ident button has never been called for and I j…

Hi Yesterday I've tried to run-up the engines on the DC-6 step-by-step by the manual (chapter 3.2 from the expanded check list). All went well until step number 6c (page 206 of the POH): My engines were running at about 1600RPM in high RPM (P-Lever full forward position) when I pushed in the feathering switch for number 1 engine (switch #46 on page 27 in the POH). Immediately after I've pushed in the feathering switch, the engine had shut down. The prop was indeed in feathering-position, but the engine wasn't running anymore. I tried the same with engine number 2, by first pushing in the feathering switch and then immediately pulling it fully out again. but I…

Hi. The other day , i could resist no longer the urge to buy the DC-6 , i have found the docs that contain the checlklist for the aircraft , but when i tried to copy the default A321 checklist and paste into the DC-6A and renamed it , to see if it would show when called , it did not , this was a test prior to editing this file to the DC-6 systems as per the adobe docs . How can i get a checklist to show in the kneepad for this aircraft , as far as i can tell i have done it correctly , so what have i missed. If i cannot get it to show this way , then i will just have to put up with a notepad doc , which should do the same thing. Also on a flight yesterd…

Dear DC-6 fliers, While preparing a flight in my DC6 I noted that the cabin heating system suddenly became inoperative. Turning the system ON didn't produce an increase in the Cabin Heater fuel pressure, nor a cabin heater temperature increase, and the cabin temperature stayed at the same temperature as the OAT. Looking at the circuit breakers panel I noted that the cabin heater C/Bs were in the OFF position, but there was no way to reset them. The mouse cursor over it didn't turned on a hand, not allowing me reset them. What can I do? Fortunately it was a cargo run over the Caribbean, but I don't want to freeze my passengers to death... Thanks f…

In the historic timetable link I posted previously, there is generally nothing for Balair during the sixties and seventies (the livery is dated 1966). Since we have this livery, I would like to fly some of the actual routes this airline flew. I have Googled and only discovered recent entries about the now defunct airline. Does anyone know what routes they flew their DC-6's?

  23. Running FSX Acceleration in a Win 10 machine. After landing I like to run "Instant Replay" of my landing to review how I did. This is usually after I do a shut down of the engines. During the replay I get the "Green Bar" notice that oil pressure is low and damaging all engines. After the replay the status of the engines changed from light yellow to orange. I assume that orange says the engines are worse than at yellow. It therefore appears that running "Instant Replay" is causing damage to the engines. Any ideas of how to fix?

I saw a video on YouTube that claimed that there is a flaw in the flight dynamics of this DC-6 model. His reasoning was that this plane has dihedral in the wing and should therefore roll back to level if placed in a bank and the controls are released. He demonstrated in the video that this does not happened. The plane will remain in whatever bank that was established when the controls are released. After watching the video, I tried it in hopes that it might have been an old video and this may have been fixed. But not so, the plane remained in the bank. I know that there's someone of the forum from the flight dynamics team and I was wondering if there a…

Hey, i tried the DC6 again, and the engine start isn't working propperly. I try to start the Engines according to the Tutorial. The Engine 1 starts to spin, but then shuts down. Also when i try to just use the "ready to taxi" state, Engine 1 starts to rotate and stop working after a while. Restarting P3d has not helped. Using the latest Version according to operation Center. I'm using P3d V4. Hope someone can help me.
